Abstract: A roll supporting mechanism rotatably supports an electrically-conducted roll. The roll supporting mechanism includes an electrically-conducting portion that contacts with a circumferential portion of an outer periphery of the electrically-conducted roll to conduct electricity to the electrically-conducted roll, and an insulating portion that contacts with the other circumferential portion of the outer periphery of the electrically-conducted roll at a contact portion smaller than a contact portion of the electrically-conducting portion and that is formed by an insulating material.
Abstract: This invention provides a method to strip a media sheet that is adhered to an image carrying belt surface so that the sheet can follow the subsequent intended path through a marking system. The belt can be a photoconductor belt or an intermediate transfer belt. The stripping feature of this invention is located movably adjacent to a back-up roll in a transfer station of the marking system. The stripping feature has a radiused belt contact portion. After the sheet has an image transferred thereon from the belt, sometimes the sheet adheres to the belt, which can be disruptive to the system. This invention provides that the stripping feature can be selectively deployed so that its radiused belt contact portion presses against the inside of the image carrying belt, thus temporarily deforming the belt and thereby causing the sheet to release therefrom.
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a first path information calculating unit, a second path information calculating unit, and a path selecting unit. The first path information calculating unit calculates first path information which is information representing a first path for separating areas from an image. The second path information calculating unit calculates second path information representing a second path for separating the areas from the image, the second path being the reverse of the first path. The path selecting unit selects one of the first path information calculated by the first path information calculating unit and the second path information calculated by the second path information calculating unit.
Abstract: Apparatuses useful in printing and methods of mitigating media edge wear effects on fixing belts in printing are provided. An exemplary apparatus useful for printing onto media includes a first roll including a first surface; a second roll including a second surface; a fixing member including a third surface; a fixing belt supported on the first surface and second surface, the fixing belt including a surface forming a nip with the fixing member; a registration distribution system for translating the first roll, second roll, fixing member and fixing belt, as a unit, transversely with respect to a media travel path of media received at the nip; and a belt steering mechanism connected to the second roll for translating the fixing belt across the first surface of the first roll at the nip, transversely to the media travel path, while the registration distribution system translates the first roll, second roll, fixing member and fixing belt transversely to the media travel path.

Abstract: A fixing device has a regulating mechanism for maintaining a contact portion of a pressing member in a state in which the contact portion does not contact with a fixing roll through a fixing belt from a second area to a first area or a state in which a pressure is reduced so that the contact portion contacts with the fixing roll when switching from a state in which the contact portion is placed in the second area to a state in which the contact portion is placed in the first area is carried out by a switching mechanism, and making a transition for the contact portion of the pressing member into a contact state at a predetermined pressure when the first area is reached.
Abstract: Blogs (and other information sources) are recommended to a user based history of user's online activities. The system: (1) processes the user's web history, (2) identifies blog posts (and web pages) that link to pages read by the user, (3) generates multiple relevance scores for each identified post/page, and (4) produces multiple rankings of the corresponding source blogs (and web sites) by aggregating individual relevance scores (or combinations of relevance scores), according to users' preferences. The system allows the discovery of information sources that are likely to be interesting to the user and allows sources lost in the “long tail” to be seamlessly discovered.

Abstract: Present embodiments pertain to an improved electrostatographic imaging member having low contact friction surfaces to ease sliding mechanical interaction and suppressing abrasion/wear failure and methods of preparing thereof. The improved imaging member has layers comprising one or two low surface energy polymeric materials that enhance the physical and mechanical functions and reduce the layers surface contact friction of the imaging member to extend service life.
Abstract: A xerogrpahic system and method use a tri-level development process in which at least one xerographic imaging unit includes a photoreceptor and a pair of developer units. A first developer unit includes a conventional first toner of a given color (CYMK) and a second developer unit includes a hypochromatic light form of the first toner. By use of a specific tri-level process, excellent color-to-color registration can be achieved for each processed color separation because overlap between colorants can be prevented. Moreover, by use of two forms of the same colorant, a smoother tone reproduction curve can be achieved when an aggressive blending strategy is used. Gamut loss and ink limit violation can be avoided by adjusting the blending curve in certain situations.
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes: an area setting section that sets a searching area of a predetermined size in inputted image data; a searching section that searches for pixels having a predetermined pixel value in the searching area set by the area setting section; an attribute determining section that determines attribute of pixels contained in the searching area on the basis of at least one of a number and an arrangement of the pixels searched for by the searching section; and an attribute assigning section that assigns the attribute determined by the attribute determining section to the searched pixels.
Abstract: In a digital reproduction system incorporating a single pass scanner, accurate image processing results from processing a subset of grayscale image data. More specifically, scanlines that correspond to the leading edge of a document are stored and processed to detect skew and to obtain an appropriate correction. The lead edge correction is then applied to the entire grayscale image. Accordingly, the present systems and methods eliminate skew from grayscale images in real-time. The corrected image is rendered to binary and stored in electronic pre-collation memory and cropping, masking and other image editing operations can be performed on the binary image data before the image is printed.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for automatically retrieving and configuring the print device to a set of device specific system settings tailored for user selected media attributes. In one embodiment, an operator selects media attributes desired for a particular print job on a print device which then automatically queries a database over a network for a set of device specific system settings tailored to the selected media attributes. The database system determines the existence of at least one record stored in the database and provides that matching record data back to the print device. The matching record data is received and displayed on a user interface for review by an operator. The operator accepts/modifies the displayed system settings. The print device then automatically configures the device to the accepted device specific system settings.
Abstract: Embodiments herein select performance indicators from raw data and measure the indicators over at least one time period to extract a time series of data for each of the indicators. The method determines a time order among the correlated indicators and determines a causal direction among the correlated indicators based on which of the correlated indicators occurs first in time so as to identify relative leading indicators among the correlated indicators. The processes of determining the time order and determining the causal direction can comprise applying Dynamic Time Warping and/or Granger Causality techniques to the time series of data.
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for context dependent cropping of a source image. The method includes identifying a context for the source image, identifying a visual class corresponding to the identified context from a set of visual classes, applying a class model to the source image to identify a candidate region of the image based on its relevance to the visual class, and identifying a subpart of the source image for cropping, based on the location of the candidate region.
Abstract: A fuser component useful in electrostatographic machines is provided, having a substrate, and thereover a coating composition comprising a haloelastomer, such as, for example, a fluoroelastomer, and a deflocculating agent. A fuser component comprising a deflocculating agent exhibits improved properties including, but not limited to, increased gloss and a smoother coating surface with a relatively high adhesive strength. The use of a deflocculating agent also reduces or eliminates the barium sulfate defect.

Abstract: According to the invention, a method is provided for calculating a Fractional Area Coverage (FAC) for determining the density of toner to evaluate the effectiveness of a xerographic printing process. The amount of diffuse light being reflected at the specular angle is determined during densitometer calibration and subsequent specular sensor readings are corrected by subtracting a fraction of the diffuse sensor signal from the specular sensor signal. Also provided is a computer readable media having stored computer executable instructions, wherein the computer executable instructions, when executed by a computer, directs a computer to perform a method for calculating a FAC for determining the density of toner to evaluate the effectiveness of a xerographic printing process.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention describe a collaborative framework for mining of surveillance videos to detect abnormal events, which introduces a two-stage training process to alleviate the high false alarm problem. In the first stage, unsupervised clustering is performed on the segments of the video streams and a set of abnormal events are combined with user feedback to generate a clean training set. In the second stage, the clean training set is used to train a more precise model for the analysis of normal events and the motion detection results from multiple cameras can be cross validated and combined. The device can also include a plurality of pixels, wherein each of the plurality of pixels can include one or more first electrodes disposed over the substantially transparent substrate, a light emitting layer disposed over each of the one or more first electrodes, and one or more second electrodes disposed over the backing substrate, wherein the one or more second electrodes and the one or more first electrode are disposed at a predetermined gap in a low pressure region. Each of the plurality of pixels can further include one or more nanocylinder electron emitter arrays disposed over each of the one or more second electrodes.
