Abstract: An image forming unit includes a developing device, a guiding member, and a sealing member. The developing device develops an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier that rotates. The developing device has a first ventilation hole that serves as a flow path for an airflow that is generated by rotation of the image carrier. The guiding member guides a recording material to the image carrier. The guiding member has a second ventilation hole that forms the flow path for the airflow in cooperation with the first ventilation hole. The sealing member is disposed between the first ventilation hole and the second ventilation hole. The sealing member has a first end in contact with the developing device and a second end in contact with the guiding member.
Abstract: An additive manufacturing system includes a slip clutch coupled to an actuator of a mechanical driver that feeds solid extrusion material into a heater for supplying thermoplastic material to a manifold in an extruder head. A speed of the actuator can be set to enable the actuator to operate at a rotational speed that is slightly greater than the rotational speed of the mechanical mover. This configuration enables the pressure of the thermoplastic material in the manifold of the extruder head to be in a predetermined range no matter how many nozzles are opened in the extruder head.

Abstract: A developing device includes a housing including a development opening and a containing unit that contains a developer, a developer carrier that rotates to pass through the development opening while holding the developer in the containing unit of the housing, an inlet portion of a flow path located in the housing at a portion including a downstream edge portion of the development opening on a downstream side in a rotation direction of the developer carrier, the inlet portion taking in part of an airflow caused by a rotation of the developer carrier to allow the part of the airflow to flow over an outer surface of the housing, and a guide member extending toward the developer carrier from a portion of the housing on a side of the inlet portion opposite to the development opening to guide the part of the airflow to the inlet portion.
Abstract: A planetary gear mechanism includes a plurality of planetary gear units each including a sun gear member to be rotationally driven by a driving source, an internal gear member, planetary gear members, and a carrier member, and a case body that internally houses the planetary gear units and includes an inner circumferential surface to be brought into surface contact with outer circumferential surfaces of the internal gear members. Engagement portions having concave shapes or convex shapes that can be fitted to convex shapes or concave shapes formed in the outer circumferential surfaces of the internal gear members are formed in the inner circumferential surface of the case body. The engagement portions are engaged with the convex shapes provided in the outer circumferential surfaces of the internal gear members, from an opposite direction to a rotating direction of the carrier members, to thereby inhibit the internal gear members from rotating.

Abstract: A toner composite material includes toner particles that include a sulfonated polyester and a wax and metal nanoparticles disposed on the surface of the toner particles. A method includes providing such toner composite materials, fusing the material to a substrate and covalently linking a ligand to the surface of the silver nanoparticles via a thiol, carboxylate, or amine functional group. Detection strips include a substrate and such toner composite materials fused on the substrate.

Abstract: A system and method scan a document printed by a first document processing device (using a second document processing device separate from the first document processing device). The document has printed thereon machine readable markings that comprise information of a patient, information of at least one lab test to be performed, and formatting information for the return of the lab test results. The second document processing device identifies the lab test to be performed on the patient based on the machine readable markings. After the lab tests have been performed on the patient, the second document processing device prepares the lab test results by formatting them. These formatted lab test results are then output from the second document processing device to the first document processing device.
