Abstract: Text, images, and/or graphics of variable content documents should be organized and laid out by a template to provide effective and quality documents. The best such template depends upon the variable content interaction with the template for each individual document. To analyze the qualitative nature of the template in quantifiable terms, the each variable content document is measure using various quantifiable factors; such as, balance, uniformity, white space management, alignment, consistency, legibility, etc.; that impact a qualitative nature of a document. Such quantifiable factors are then used to quantize the aesthetics, ease of use, eye-catching ability, interest, communicability, comfort, and convenience of the document, thereby giving a designer a measure of the quality of the template in the variable content document context.

Abstract: There is provided a document management apparatus including a copy document creation unit that retrieves an electronic shared document from a document memory and creates a document for edit which is to be transmitted to the user by copying the retrieved electronic document; a preliminary document creation unit that, before the document for edit is edited by the user, creates a preliminary document by copying the document for edit; an update detection unit that, when the user requests to store a document in the document memory, detects content which is edited by the user by comparing the document for edit with the preliminary document corresponding to the document for edit; and a document update unit that, when edited content is detected, updates an electronic document which is stored in the document memory and is corresponding to the document for edit with the detected edited content.
Abstract: An access management apparatus manages access to stored files from information processing apparatuses. The access management apparatus includes a network communication section, an access privilege policy setting section and an access control section. The network communication section has a plurality of protocols for accepting access to the files from the information processing apparatuses. The access privilege policy setting section enables one of the protocols when limitation of access to the files is started. The access control section limits access to be accepted when the one of the protocols is enabled, in accordance with settings stored in the access control section.
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes an area splitting section that splits whole image areas of a first page before edition and a second page which has been edited into plural regions; an alignment section that performs relative alignments between each of the corresponding split regions of the first page image and the second page image, produced by the area splitting section; and an extraction section that extracts edit information from the second page image by comparing the first page image with the second mage image which have been aligned by the alignment section.
Abstract: An encoding apparatus includes a block dividing unit that divides an inputted data file into blocks each including plural data elements arranged in the order of encoding, a predicted data creating unit that creates predicted data for each of the blocks resulting from the division by the block dividing unit on the basis of data elements contained in other blocks, a comparing unit that compares the predicted data created by the predicted data creating unit with data elements contained in the blocks, and a code creating unit that creates codes for the inputted data file on the basis of results of the comparison by the comparing unit.

The image data input unit inputs image data containing original image data obtained by reading an original. The density variation detection unit detects density variation from the image data input through the image data input unit. The position/size detection unit detects a position or a size of the original image data in the image data based on the density variation detected by the density variation detection unit.
Abstract: This invention is a method of producing a set of TRC's for a color printer's secondary halftone screens that is correlated with the printer's primary halftone screens. The method makes use of the printer/screen characteristic data that is normally gathered during screen calibration. However, instead of progressing from the data to a normal calibration for the secondary screens, the method goes backward through the data starting with the finished primary screen TRC's. The method insures that for every primary screen density, the closest possible secondary screen density is used when the same digital value is specified.
