Abstract: A hologram is recorded by irradiating, with a reference light beam, a region corresponding to an intensity distribution of a signal light beam on an optical recording medium. For example, the reference light beam having the intensity distribution which substantially coincides with the intensity distribution of the signal light beam is generated, and only the region which substantially coincides with the region irradiated by the signal light beam (i.e., the signal light beam defocused region) is irradiated with the reference light beam. This enables only the necessary region to be exposed and the regions which need not be exposed not to be exposed. Accordingly, the hologram can be recorded without losing information of the signal light beam and thus high-density recording can be realized.

Abstract: In an optical transmission apparatus in which a plurality of nodes are optically connected to one another via an optical transmission path, a light signal which is coded so that a mixture ratio of 1 and 0 constituting data is made close to 50% is transmitted through the optical transmission path. When a light signal is not emitted from all of the nodes, a dummy signal which is an AC-like signal is emitted to the optical transmission path. Therefore, an optoelectric conversion section can be always set to an active state, and the signal recognizability can be prevented from being lowered.
Abstract: An image-processing device creates a sequential print-processing schedule for inputted print jobs on the basis of supply conditions of required resources, such as printing media and the like, and of attribute information of the print jobs. Before execution of a print job, the image-processing device acquires attribute information for the leading job in a print-waiting queue, and determines whether or not resources requested for that print job are supplied. If not, execution of that printing job is inhibited, and the next print job in line is performed. Thus, productivity of the device can be improved. However, it is also determined whether or not the print job meets a predetermined condition. If so, other jobs are blocked from overtaking the inhibited job and being performed first. The inhibited job waits until resources are supplied, and thus re-prioritization of the print jobs against the will of a user is prevented.
Abstract: A computer readable recording medium storing a control program causing a computer to execute a process in which an authentication proxy terminal carries out authentication on behalf of a client terminal using a browser to one or more server terminals, the process which includes: performing user authentication between the client terminal and the authentication proxy terminal before an access from the client terminal using the browser to the server terminal; if the user authentication is properly performed, executing proxy authentication to the server terminal on behalf of the client terminal; and sending to the client terminal a script file that controls the browser so as to access the server terminal without involving the authentication proxy terminal at a time of the access using the browser from the client terminal to the server terminal after the proxy authentication is properly executed.

Abstract: A support stand includes: scanner attachment portions to which one end portion and the other end portion of a scanner along a scanning direction are attached; a scanner fixing structure that fixes the one end portion of the scanner to the scanner attachment portions; and a scanner attachment structure that attaches the other end portion of the scanner to the scanner attachment portions such that the other end portion of the scanner is movable along the scanning direction.
Abstract: An image forming device that carries out color reproduction using plural of color materials having: a setting unit setting a color material curbing mode that curbs an amount of color material; and a color information inputting unit that inputs input color information. The image forming device further has a converting unit that, when the color material curbing mode is set by the setting unit, converts the input color information inputted by the color information inputting unit into output color information in a color material curbing region, on the basis of correspondence relationships that are set in advance such that a region that is color-reproducible by the image forming device is kept within the color material curbing region that is narrowed such that an amount of the color material is curbed.
Abstract: An information search system that enables efficient collection of information and support of formation of groups which people who share a same interest can join over a network. This system includes an intermediate server and a central server, wherein the intermediate server retains indexes for searching the content database on the central server. Users issue a search request to the intermediate server and search results are returned and recorded on the intermediate server as a search history. The search history is shared by users and used as references from which retrievable content can be selected.
Abstract: The present invention provides a display medium including: a pair of substrates at least one of which has transparency; supporting members which partition a space between the pair of substrates into plural cells along surfaces of the substrates; metal ions which are injected into the plural cells and are deposited as metal fine particles by an electric field generated in the cells; and plural electrodes that have two or more types of electrode regions having different areas and that are provided in each of the cells on at least one of the pair of substrates.
Abstract: A microchannel device includes: a microchannel that comprises a stimuli-sensitive gel and is adjusted by giving a stimulation species to the stimuli-sensitive gel.
Abstract: A preferred embodiment reproduces an image by receiving an input contone array of M contone data values. The contone data values may lie within a range from 1 to N. The embodiment includes comparing each contone data value to an array of M sets of pattern look-up tables to generate an array of M pattern values. M may be a number of one or more. Each pattern value in the array of M pattern values may be decoded to a corresponding K by L multi-pixel pattern of binary data. The binary data is rendered by a reprographic device.

Abstract: Allowing annotations to occur remotely from the device in which they are viewed enables the optimal viewing device and optimal annotation device for generating annotations. Specifically, the annotation systems allow a user to associate annotations with one or more portions of an object. An object identifier is created to identify one or more objects. This object identifier is then forwarded to the annotation device. On the annotation device, the user can associate annotations with a portion of the object based on either a textual or a graphical technique. Upon completion of the annotations, the system synchronizes the annotations with the object based on the object identifier and the selection portion.
