Furthermore, provided are a detection method for a bio-substance using the sensor material in which a change in tone is detected on the basis of swelling or shrinking of the stimulus-responsive high polymer gel, and a detection method for transmitting light using a sensor material in which transmitting light is detected on the basis of swelling or shrinking of the stimulus-responsive high polymer gel.
Abstract: Nozzle groups are arranged in a staggered pattern such that dead space does not occur. However, gaps are opened up between actuator units so that the actuator units can be joined to flow channel units. Further, piezoelectric elements are formed at each of the actuator units, and thus piezoelectric plates are consequently shorter. Therefore, when an inkjet recording head is lengthened, there is no need to form the piezoelectric elements by processing from a single long piezoelectric plate, implementation with a plurality of short piezoelectric plates is possible, and thus production yields do not deteriorate. Further, as the actuator units can be associated and arranged in a staggered pattern, an increase in width of the inkjet recording head can be minimized.
Abstract: Media removal apparatus having a stripper finger structure for separating the lead edge of an imaging media such as plain paper from a heated fuser roll and a stripper baffle for separating the portion of the imaging media beyond the lead edge of the imaging media from the heated fuser roll. The stripper finger structure is supported for movement between a home or standby position and an active position, with the finger tips in constant contact with the heated fuser roll, for effecting separation of the media's lead edge from the heated fuser roll. Likewise, the stripper baffle structure is supported for movement between home or standby positions to its active position where it effects separation of a portion of the imaging media beyond its lead edge.

The intermediate layer defines a plurality of ink flow paths. A channel plate is disposed adjacent the intermediate layer and includes an integral filter having a plurality of filter teeth extending toward the intermediate layer. The channel plate defines an ink reservoir on one side of the integral filter and a cross-flow channel on a second side of the integral filter. Preferably, the channel plate, including the integral filter, comprises a single piece of plastic.
Abstract: A gradient-based trapping apparatus includes a processing device for receiving a current portion of a digital image. If the current portion includes an edge, a trapping device produces a trapped portion. The trapped portion represents the current portion with varying colors. The trapping device produces the trapped portion based on a plurality of patterns. Each of the patterns is chosen as a function of at least one of a) a distance of a current pixel within the current portion from the edge, b) at least one of a plurality of colors within the current portion, and c) a width of the trapped portion.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for processing image data. A peak count and a valley count are determined within a window which includes a plurality of subwindows. An overall count is determined using the greater of the peak count and the valley count for each subwindow. The image data may then be classified based on this determination.

Abstract: A collection vessel 124 has a shutter 138 for opening and closing collection ports 136. A rotation shaft 140 of the shutter 138 is provided with an opening/closing piece 144. The opening/closing piece 144 abuts a protrusion on an image formation apparatus main unit and opens the shutter 138 largely so that a discharge section inserted into the collection port 136 does not abut. The collection port 136 is made a long hole so as to allow the discharge section to move. Further, the shutter 138 is formed integrally with a plurality of door parts 142 so as to open or close the collection ports 136 by one operation.
Abstract: A heat and pressure belt fuser structure having an endless belt and a pair of pressure engageable members between which the endless belt is sandwiched for forming a fusing nip through which substrates carrying toner images pass with the toner images contacting an outer surface of the endless belt, at least one of the pressure engageable members has a deformable layer, and the endless belt has a thickness of from about 1 to about 8 mm; and the fuser structure includes an external source of thermal energy for elevating a pre-nip area of the belt. The thick belt in combination with a deformable layer of at least one of the pressure member(s) cooperate to provide a large nip and adequate creep for intrinsic paper stripping.

Abstract: For each page set contained in a hypertext and with reference to access history information, a hyperlink transition frequency acquiring unit calculates a transition frequency between the pages (i.e., a hyperlink) of the page set. An attribute extracting unit extracts an attribute from each page in the hypertext. In a correlation analyzing unit there is calculated a correlation between the transition frequency of the hyperlink and the attribute. When a predetermined page set is given as an object of analysis, the attribute extracting unit extracts an attribute, and in an attribute analyzing unit the attribute is compared with a multiple regression expression stored in a correlation data storing unit. The resulting correlation expression is displayed in a display unit. According to this configuration it is possible to show a cause of a problem involved in the page configuration of a hypertext system, present a remedial measure, and improve the page configuration easily.
Abstract: A method of diagnosing a printer problem includes correlating a wide range of printer data types with suggested solutions. Printer diagnostic data, which may include usage information and printer status information collected over a period of time, is parsed into individual components. The components are then input into a set of rules. Each rule compares each component with a corresponding reference value to generate a comparison result, correlates the comparison result with a set of actions including solutions, and if there is a correlation between the comparison result and a solution, providing the solution.
Abstract: An improved nanotip structure and method for forming the nanotip structure and a display system using the improved nanotip structure is described. The described nanotip is formed from a semiconductor having a crystalline structure such as gallium nitride. The crystalline structure preferably forms dislocations oriented in the direction of the nanotips. One method of forming the nanotip structure uses the relatively slow etching rates that occur around the dislocations compared to the faster etch rates that occur in other parts of the semiconductor structure. The slower etching around dislocations enables the formation of relatively high aspect ratio nanotips in the dislocation area.
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for improving the appearance of electronic images, and more specifically, to the efficient use of template rotation within a template matching process to enhance such images. The invention reduces the number of entries that are stored in a look up table by eliminating identical patterns that differ only by the angle at which they are output. The appropriate templates are then rotated it by the required angle for output subsequent to their retrieval from the lookup table.
Abstract: An input image is subjected to transform by a DCT transforming unit 20. A coefficient analyzing unit 30 compares a predetermined coefficient and coefficient data 120, and obtains low-frequency image data 150 of the input image by a high-frequency coefficient masking unit 50 and an inverse DCT unit 60 on the basis of a result of that comparison. A pixel subsampling unit 70 receives this low-frequency image data 150, and generates a subsampled image on the basis of the aforementioned result of comparison. The subsampled image and coefficient information are transmitted to a decoding side. A decoding apparatus decodes an image on the basis of the subsampled image and the coefficient information.

Abstract: A port monitor allows a computer, digital camera, or other device to send a print job to a target printer, where the only known information about the printer is its network address. Communication is attempted to the network address, sequentially using each of a plurality of port numbers. If none of the plurality of port numbers is successful in initiating communication to the network address, communication to the network address is attempted using an LPR port number, sequentially using each of a plurality of LPR queue names.

Abstract: A method for color cast removal in a scanned image in L*a*b* space includes generating a first color cast correction curve for mapping L* to a first color correction, &Dgr;a*, (or &Dgr;b*) wherein the first correction curve provides a desired a* shift in midtone regions and is modulated as a function of L* such that black and white points are unaffected; for each pixel n in the scanned image, passing L*n through the first color cast correction curve for obtaining a value of &Dgr;a*n; and adding the value of &Dgr;a*n to the scanned image's original a*n component. To ensure that the color corrected a* remains within gamut, a second correction curve for applying a clipping factor to the mapped &Dgr;a* may be generated with the a*n passing through the second correction curve for obtaining a clipping factor Cn; and modifying the a*n value by Cn(&Dgr;a*n).
