  • Publication number: 20040162814
Abstract: A method for automatically determining query language operators of a Web information source, includes providing a set of known query operators, each known query operator in the set operating according to at least one syntax, wherein for a test query comprising a query operator and a test key word, each syntax of the operator produces a different number of document matches for the test query at a known Web information source; performing the test query on the Web information source, wherein the test query produces a number of document matches on the Web information source; comparing the number of document matches produced by the Web information source with the number of document matches produced by the known operator's different syntaxes; and using an established criteria for determining if comparing results indicate the Web information source supports the known query operator according its matching syntax.

  • Publication number: 20040162704
Abstract: A printing apparatus includes a stepper motor automated self-test routine that gives an approximation of the state of the degradation of the stepper motor and/or its driven load. The test includes artificially increasing the starting frequency above normal and/or reducing the operation current below normal by a known and controllable amount to the stepper motor and tracking the level at which the motor is just able to start operating. By examining the magnitude and/or change in these levels, the remaining life and reliability of the motor can be predicted. Alternatively, the self-test routine could be used in conjunction with paper path sensors to determine the start time for a stepper motor. The start times are stored for trend analysis.

  • Publication number: 20040160498
Abstract: A feature allows for removing an ink stick from an ink feed channel, through the keyed opening for that shape of ink stick. In a keyed key plate opening, a clearance area between the key plate opening and the outer perimeter of the ink stick provides access through which a removal tool can be inserted alongside an ink stick in the channel. In an example, the clearance area is provided by an outwardly directed section of the perimeter of the key plate opening. In a particular implementation, the edge key plate opening is chamfered across the thickness of the key plate, except for a small portion of the perimeter of the key plate opening, which has a straight edge. The end of the removal tool has a surface to engage the ink stick, so that pressing the removal tool against the ink stick, and drawing the removal tool back through the clearance area pulls the ink stick through the key plate opening.

  • Patent number: 6778707
Abstract: A method for decompressing digital image data to improve the speed of decompression is disclosed. More specifically, the present invention improves image decompression time by operating upon a subset of the original data and by performing a modified discrete cosine transform on a subset of the originally provided data. The subset is determined by examining the compressed data and looking for a particular pattern of zero values and/or and “end of block” statement.

  • Patent number: 6776404
Abstract: A finishing device having a sheet guiding and buffering mechanism located in the space between a sheet transporting assembly and a finishing platform. The mechanism has two parallel retractable arms having a slight curvature along their length. Sheets dispensed seriatim from the transport assembly onto the arms conform to the curvature of the arms. In a normal mode, the arms are retracted for each sheet delivered thereto and the individual sheets drop onto platform to form a set of stacked sheets. When the last sheet of a set is dropped, the mechanism changes to a buffering mode and the arms collect and hold the first few sheets of the next set. Once the previous set has been finished and ejected from the platform, the arms are retracted and the sheets collected are dropped, and the mechanism is changed to the normal cycle for the remainder of the subsequent set.

  • Patent number: 6778679
Abstract: A method is presented for decoding auxiliary information in digital images which enables the encoding of both compact auxiliary information specific to a given image and a secret message into a given image such that the hidden message contained therein is only revealed in such a way that neither the image itself nor the auxiliary information alone are sufficient to reveal the secret message. Specifically, a method for decoding an auxiliary message in a digital image, having the steps of first receiving a function F through secure means; then, for each pixel (i,j) in digital image (D) obtaining a N×N windowed observation; applying function F to said N×N windowed observation; marking a corresponding pixel in message (I) with the value obtained from function F; and then writing out the hidden message.
