Abstract: An image display device and driving method thereof produce a multiple color display without inviting a drop in resolution, or with the drop in resolution suppressed. Between a back substrate and a transparent display substrate forming the image display surface, the image display part has in order a display electrode on which a transparent surface coating is formed, a spacer, and a back electrode on which a surface coating is formed. A voltage control part applies a −350 V dc voltage, for example, to the display electrode to display black by black particles, applies an approximately +350 dc voltage to the display electrode to display white by white particles, and applies, for example, a +/−500 V particle drive voltage pulse repeatedly to the display electrode to make the black and white particles clump together inside the unit cell, thereby making the unit cell transparent to produce a transparent display.

Abstract: A collection vessel 124 is formed with a plurality of collection spaces 148a to 148f separated by partition walls 146, and collection ports 134 and 136 are connected to the collection spaces 148a to 148f. The collection spaces 148a to 148f are made to communicate with each other through a communication part 152. A developer intake section 154 implementing a full condition detector is placed below the communication part 152. A detection vessel is placed in the developer intake section 154 for detecting a full condition based on the developer overflowing the collection spaces 148a to 148f.

Abstract: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reliably removing an untransferred residual toner from the surface of an intermediate transfer drum which is covered with an elastic layer, thereby enabling to forma recorded image having a high image quality with no ghost image, and capable of continuing to form recorded images having the high image quality over a long period of time without causing damage to the intermediate transfer drum. The intermediate transfer drum is structured such that the periphery of a metal base is covered with an elastic layer. As a toner discharging member for capturing a toner adhered to the intermediate transfer drum and discharging the toner as waste into a recovery box, there are provided a recovery roll that rotates while being in contact with the intermediate transfer drum and a scraper for scraping off a toner adhered to the surface of the recovery roll.
Abstract: The invention provides a washing method for a charging member by removing the deposited substance on the surface, thus making the charging member reusable. The washing method, for an electrophotographic charging member to be pressed to the surface of a member to be charged thereby charging the member to be charged, has a step of washing the surface of the charging member at least once with an acidic aqueous solution.
Abstract: A collection vessel 124 has a shutter 138 for opening and closing collection ports 136. A rotation shaft 140 of the shutter 138 is provided with an opening/closing piece 144. The opening/closing piece 144 abuts a protrusion on an image formation apparatus main unit and opens the shutter 138 largely so that a discharge section inserted into the collection port 136 does not abut. The collection port 136 is made a long hole so as to allow the discharge section to move. Further, the shutter 138 is formed integrally with a plurality of door parts 142 so as to open or close the collection ports 136 by one operation.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus has a black sensitized body and plural color sensitized bodies arranged in a row as well as a belt adapted to move round on a course, sequentially passing by or coming into contact with the plural sensitized bodies, of which the black sensitized body is located at an end of the row, a roll for causing the belt to come into contact with the black sensitized body and a retractable roll located between the color sensitized body disposed at the other end of the row of the sensitized bodies opposite to the black sensitized body and the color sensitized body immediately adjacent to the black sensitized body and adapted to shift from a position for holding itself in contact with the belt to a position for separating itself from the belt and vice versa to change the course of round movement of the belt.
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining the authoritativeness of a document based on textual, non-topical cues. The authoritativeness of a document is determined by evaluating a set of document content features contained within each document to determine a set of document content feature values, processing the set of document content feature values through a trained document textual authority model, and determining a textual authoritativeness value and/or textual authority class for each document evaluated using the predictive models included in the trained document textual authority model. Estimates of a document's textual authoritativeness value and/or textual authority class can be used to re-rank documents previously retrieved by a search, to expand and improve document query searches, to provide a more complete and robust determination of a document's authoritativeness, and to improve the aggregation of ran-ordered lists with numerically-ordered lists.

Abstract: A collection vessel 124 has intermediate transfer body collection ports 134 and developing machine collection ports 136. Collected developer occurrence sections placed in intermediate transfer bodies and developing machines are connected to the collection ports 134 and 136. At least two of the collection ports 134 and 136 are formed so that they are arranged in a longitudinal direction. Collection spaces 148a to 148f to which the collection ports 134 and 136 are connected are separated by partition walls 146, and the collection capacities of the collection spaces 148a to 148f are set according to the heights and shapes of the partition walls 146.
Abstract: Optimal rehalftone screen frequencies are found by searching frequency space for points that are maximally spaced from significant frequency components of an input image halftone screen or screens. Selecting a rehalftone screen having a maximally spaced frequency produces moiré of the highest frequency possible. High frequency moiré are visually unobjectionable. Optimal rehalftone frequencies may be found near the maximally spaced points where system or other constraints limit the usefulness of the maximally spaced points. Rehalftone screen frequencies in the range of about 1.4 to about 1.8 times the fundamental frequency of the input image halftone screen are often optimal. A rehalftone screen frequency of 1.5 times the fundamental frequency of the input image halftone screen is often optimal when the input image is monochrome and uses a dot screen.
Abstract: When neuron operations are computed in parallel using a large number of arithmetic units, arithmetic units for neuron operations and arithmetic units for error signal operations need not be provided separately, and a neural network arithmetic apparatus that consumes the bus band less is provided for updating of synapse connection weights. Operation results of arithmetic units and setting information of a master node are exchanged between them through a local bus. During neuron operations, partial sums of neuron output values from the arithmetic units are accumulated by the master node to generate and output a neuron output value, and an arithmetic unit to which neuron operations of the specific neuron are assigned receives and stores the neuron output value outputted from the master node.
Abstract: Geometric configurations for photosites found on photosensitive chips for creating electrical signals from an original image, as would be found, for example, in a digital scanner, copier, facsimile machine, or other document generating or reproducing device. The photosensitive chips are mounted on a substrate to form a photosensitive array in a full width scanner or other photosensitive device. The geometric configurations reduce the Moiré patterns to provide a higher quality image.

Abstract: A set of CMOS-based amplifiers amplify signals from a set of photosensors within a large photosensitive imaging device. When the imaging device reads out image signals, each amplifier is selected for operation only within a brief time window when the particular photosensor associated therewith is reading out. Incidental to reading out a signal through a particular amplifier, all nodes which are capacitively coupled to the input node of the amplifier are biased to a known magnitude. In this way, residual charges remaining in the amplifier from a previous readout will not distort subsequent signals read through the amplifier.
Abstract: Guide ring arranged coaxially with a drive shaft includes locating and locking features ensuring proper orientation of drive and driven shafts, also ensuring proper backlash between gears mounted thereon. Guide ring is inserted through a keyed aperture of a mounting bracket and brought into proximity with the driven shaft frame. Rotation of motor and guide ring in first direction draws shafts into alignment; mounting bracket is attached to driven shaft frame. Motor and guide ring then rotated in opposite direction to second extreme position in which the motor is locked and driven shaft can rotate freely.
