Abstract: An image is rotated in opponent color space, such as L*a*b* or Y CB CR color space, by inputting the opponent color space image data, subsampling the opponent color space image data, and addressing the subsampled opponent color space image data into an output configuration corresponding to a specified rotation angle. For 90° and 270° rotation, the opponent color space image data is scaled before being addressed. This eliminates distortion of the rotated image, while allowing real-time rotation of the image in hardware.
Abstract: A photonic device includes a plurality of semi-conductor layers formed on a substrate. The semi-conductor layers include an active layer and a current controlling region in close proximity to the active layer. The current controlling region includes a relatively small electrically conductive section or aperture, and a relatively large non-conductive section. A plurality of channels in the device are arranged to bound the electrically conductive section within their perimeter. The channels are spaced close enough together, and close enough to the desired aperture region to permit a relatively brief oxidation process to precisely isolate the aperture. The remainder of the current controlling region, i.e. beyond the aperture is also altered to present a high resistance. The photonic device also includes a relatively large surface area electrical contact used to drive the device. The large size desirably lowers overall resistance.
Abstract: A document processing system including a plurality of model images stored in a memory is provided. The model images are represented by a first information set with the first information set varying as a function of object-based coordinates. At least one of the plurality of model images includes a text containing region having index information intended for use in storing one or more document pages. Moreover, a query image represented as a second set of information varying as a function of object-based coordinates is provided. In practice, an image localization module corresponds the second set of information with a portion of the first set of information to obtain the text containing region, and a text extraction module extracts the index information from the text containing region to facilitate the storing of the one or more document pages.

Abstract: An imaging system for effecting electrostatic printing of an image, wherein the imaging system includes an electrostatic printing engine operable in a novel fashion upon a copy substrate, for imaging and development of an electrostatic latent image representative of the image, and subsequently transfers the developed image to the copy substrate. A quantity of low solids content liquid developing material is subject to compression in a process nip such that the concentration of marking particles therein increases and the concentration of carrier fluid decreases. A toner cake layer is thereby formed in the process nip, and is used for development of the electrostatic latent image in a development zone situated in the process nip.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system that utilize a collection of predefined core sentences in a source language, that may be initially accessed through a thematic hierarchy or through key words. New sentences may be recursively elaborated through transformations of a selected core sentence, that comprise substitution and expansion. In accordance With the present invention, the method and system automatically handle syntactic modifications of an interlingual structure, that are implied by a selected transformation. Each transformation establishes a valid new sentence in the source language. The method and system further generate a corresponding translation into any available target language.
Abstract: An aspheric optical element corrects the non-linearity of the scan line in a ROS. The optical element can be either the wobble correction mirror, the last optical element in the ROS, or the output window, subsequent to the ROS. The optical element deflects the scan beam to cancel the non-linearity of the scan line caused by the residual errors in the ROS lens design. The aspheric optical element can also correct scan line bow.
Abstract: A color copying apparatus is capable of making copies without performing a prescan. Input image data of RGB format read from an image input unit is written in an image memory through the shading/gap correction unit and an input &ggr; correction unit. This input image data is supplied to a detection unit through a first color space conversion unit to distinguish color from monochrome in the input image data, and to detect the base color level and the like. Next, on the basis of these detection results, states of a second color space conversion unit, a selector, a frame-erase/base color removal unit and the like are set. Thus, the input image data is read out again from the image memory, and is supplied to an image output unit through the first color space conversion unit to an output &ggr; correction unit.
Abstract: In retrieval in which information having meaningful consistence is regarded as one unit, useful information within a hypertext structure retrieved is rendered capable of being effectively perused. A node group constituting part constitutes node groups to be retrieved on the basis of combination through links and the degree of similarity in contents from information in a hyper-document system. A component node storing part stores node group identification address information sent from the node group constituting part. When a retrieval request is given, an information retrieval part calculates the degree of similarity between the retrieval request and the node group. A similarity calculation part acquires the component nodes of a node group similar to the retrieval request from the component node storing part, and calculates the degrees of similarity between the component nodes acquired and the retrieval condition profile to rank the component nodes.

Abstract: An improved and lower cost color spectrophotometer, especially suitable for on-line color printer color control systems, incorporating a low cost commercial imaging chip, which normally only forms part of a three row, three color, document imaging bar used for imaging documents in scanners, digital copiers, or multifunction products, having multiple photo-sites with at least three different color filters in three rows. This multiple photo-sites chip may be modified to also provide unfiltered photo-sites. This spectrophotometer may have a substantially reduced number of different LED or other spectral illumination sources, one of which may be for white light, yet provide multiple spectral data outputs from the differently filtered photo-sites being simultaneous illuminated by the light reflected from a color test target area which is being sequentially illuminated by the respective limited number of LEDs, enabling broad spectrum information and color control.
Abstract: An operator of a printer may choose a maximum decomposition time for a page of a print job. Each page in the print job must fully decompose before the maximum decomposition time is reached. If a page does not fully decompose before the maximum decomposition time is reached, the print job may be terminated. In addition, a notification may be generated advising the operator that a page of the print job did not fully compose before the maximum decomposition time was reached. The establishment of maximum decomposition times helps to ensure that a single print job does not monopolize a printer or other output device.
Abstract: An optical data bus fixing board suitable for using an optical data bus as a signal transmission medium and an optical back plane board. A recess for inserting an optical data bus, which is made of a rectangular light transmissive resin substrate and comprises a step-wise side along the longitudinal direction and signal light incoming/outgoing areas formed by sloping the longitudinal end of each step at 45 degrees in relation to the substrate surface, is formed in the surface of a flat plate in order to easily and efficiently use the optical data bus as a signal transmission medium for interconnecting various signal processing circuits. The optical data bus is inserted and fixed within the recess by being pressed and biased from the back end by a first holding member including a reflective diffusion plate and from the side by a second holding member including a flat spring.

Abstract: Automatic detection of the width and position of a document which is substantially insensitive to dust and dirt as well as electrical noise is provided with an image capture device. When a document is staged for image capture, the image capture device collects several scanlines of the backing without the document and several scanlines of the lead edge of the document with the backing. The backing image collected is then subtracted from the lead edge image collected, and the resulting image is readjusted. Accordingly, variations in the backing areas of the lead edge image are removed and edge detection failure or error are reduced or eliminated.

Abstract: A welded seam of an imaging belt comprises a surface roughness. To reduce the surface roughness, the welded seam is treated by compressing a portion of the belt comprising the welded seam and adjacent belt portions and, while compressing, heating the welded seam to a heating temperature near but less than the glass transition temperature of the imaging layer of the belt, then cooling the welded seam to a cooling temperature. The compressing continues while the heating and cooling steps are repeated until the surface roughness is determined to be satisfactory. The process then ceases.
