Abstract: A sheet S is supported by a movable cylindrical transfer drum 12 and a toner image is transferred from a photosensitive drum 9 onto the sheet S in this state. The sheet S is curved by curl rolls 29, 30 of a conveyer unit 20 so that it is curved outward in harmony with the direction of the transfer drum 12 and that its curvature radius is smaller than that of the transfer drum 12. Then the sheet S is conveyed toward the transfer drum 12. A guide plate 40 is placed between the curl rolls 29, 30 and the transfer drum 12 and the leading end portion of the sheet S conveyed from the curl rolls 29, 30 abuts and slides on the guide face 42 of the guide plate 40. Thus, a moment is given to the following portion of the sheet S held between the curl rolls 29, 30 and the curvature radius of the following portion thereof is corrected so that the curvature radius of the following portion thereof may be increased.
Abstract: A system for controlling the playback of a recorded session. Timestream and event information for the session is captured by one or more recording devices. Playback of a session is performed under the control of a session access device. A session access device utilizes event information to create a user interface for controlling session replay. In the present invention, two windows are used in a coherent and synergistic fashion. A first window functions as a player for playing back a timestream for the electronic whiteboard is also used for controlling playback of the session. A second window functions as a playback controller utilizing a timeline metaphor. Various interactions in one window will cause a resulting change in the other window. For example, selecting a marking in the first window may cause all related events to be displayed on the timeline of the second window. This coherency enables a user to more clearly pinpoint points in the session that would contain information of interest.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing the displayed detail of a tree structure. The present invention is for use on a computer controlled display system and provides for visualization of a tree structure so that a greater amount of the detail of the tree structure may be displayed in a display area. In the present invention, a tree structure is warped about an arbitrary surface for display. Such an arbitrary surface would include a surface defined by a parabola, a hyperbola or by the intersection of two lines. As a result, an increased number of nodes in each level of the tree can be displayed.
Abstract: A computerized multilingual translation dictionary includes a set of word and phrases for each of the languages it contains, plus a mapping that indicates for each word or phrase in one language what the corresponding translations in the other languages are. The set of words and phrases for each language are divided up among corresponding concept groups based on an abstract pivot language. The words and phrases are encoded as token numbers assigned by a word-number mapper laid out in sequence that can be searched fairly rapidly with a simple linear scan. The complex associations of words and phrases to particular pivot language senses are represented by including a list of pivot-language sense numbers with each word or phrase. The preferred coding of these sense numbers is by means of a bit vector for each word, where each bit corresponds to a particular pivot element in the abstract language, and the bit is ON if the given word is a translation of that pivot element.
Abstract: A method an apparatus for storing and supplying liquid ink to a thermal ink-jet printer includes a printhead that has ink ejection nozzles and an ink supply housing connected to the printhead. The ink supply housing defines an ink storage chamber, and an ink flow path communicating with the printhead and ink storage chamber. An ink storage medium and a scavenger member are placed in the ink storage chamber for retaining, and controllably supplying a quantity of liquid ink from the chamber within a desirable back pressure range at the printhead. The ink storage medium is a medium density non-reticulation process produced copolymer polyurethane foam consisting essentially of a blend of polyether and polyester materials.

Abstract: An idealized clustered screen is characterized spot clustering which is optimized so that clusters are about the same size and shape as they grow and are approximately equally distanced though an image. Pixels are swapped within the screen to vary its appearance. An optimization process iteratively checks a quality metric based on the optimum conditions, as pixels are swapped until an optimum screen appearance is obtained.

Abstract: There is disclosed a vertical cavity laser diode (VCSEL) assembly with an integral set of detectors for the purpose of individually monitoring and adjusting the output power of each laser diode. A plate which has a plurality of light detectors and a plurality of apertures is bonded to a laser light source which has a plurality of VCSELs. Each aperture of the plate is aligned with a corresponding VCSEL and each light detector is electrically connected to a corresponding VCSEL.
Abstract: A magnetic field latch assembly for an apparatus having a first element and a second element with the second element having a disengaged position and an engaged position with respect to the first element. The magnetic field latch assembly employs permanent or electromagnets for shock absorption, positioning and latching the first element and the second element. The magnetic field latch assembly includes magnets associated with the first and second elements such that as the first and second elements approach each other, the magnets initially repel each other causing a braking force to slow the relative motion of the first and second elements. When the first and second elements are in the engaged position, the magnets hold the first and second elements in position and minimize vibration and chatter.
Abstract: A method of development control by storing a reference tone reproduction curve and sensing a relatively small segment of an arbitrary image on an imaging surface. The relatively small segment of the arbitrary image on the imaging surface is then converted into suitable density values, such as background, solid area, and halftone and a control responds to the density values to adjust the machine operation for print quality correction.

Abstract: A semiconductor laser array emits a plurality of laser beams. A polygon mirror deflects the plurality of laser beams together. A prism type reflector separates the deflected laser beams to different directions that are generally along an arrangement direction of a plurality of photoreceptors. The separated laser beams are input to the respective photoreceptors through mirrors and cylindrical lenses.
Abstract: A digital color printing method and system is described which automatically determines a mixture of colorants to compose a process black color, taking into account relevent printing characteristics of a color printer and the background color at the point on the page at which the process black is to be printed. In certain printing systems, printing problems can occur when process black, composed of a mixture of colorants such as cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, is printed over a color background. For example, in a xerographic color printing system, a process black containing all colorants at maximum or near-maximum value can sometimes produce objectionable deletions in a surrounding color field, caused by interference in the transfer of toner to the background color field due to the process black toner pile height. Excessive combined toner pile height can also create an unevenness in the final print.
Abstract: Line feed is performed for blank lines and the head is positioned at FIG. 11B for the image to be printed which is indicated at FIG. 11A. In this state, the first printing is performed in a striped pattern in the recording areas (4) and (6). This improves print quality of a straight line following a blank part. After line feeding, the head is positioned at FIG. 11C. The second printing is performed in a striped pattern which interpolates the first printing in the recording areas (4) and (6). Simultaneously, the first printing is performed in a checkered pattern in the recording areas (5) and (7) to improve the quality of the extensive image.

Abstract: The developer for electrostatic photography according to the present invention comprises toner particles containing a thermoplastic resin and a colorant dispersed in an electrically insulating carrier having a melting point above room temperature wherein the thermoplastic resin is insoluble in the electrically insulating carrier at a temperature below the melting point of the electrically insulating carrier but becomes solvated with the electrically insulating carrier at a temperature above the melting point of the electrically insulating carrier. The present invention provides a developer for electrostatic photography, which enables to reduce the emission of vapor, to carry out a fixing treatment at a higher rate, to reduce the amount of energy required for fixing treatment and to create a high-quality image even after repeated use of the developer.
