  • Patent number: 4551332
Abstract: A dermatological coating material is prepared by combining a glyceryl stearate (glyceryl monostearate or glyceryl distearate) with a vitamin E component (.alpha.-tocopherol acetate, .alpha.-tocopherol and/or mixed tocopherols) to form a molten solution with the aid of heat, which solution, when cooled, forms a frozen solid or semi-solid solution at room temperature. The vitamin E component is hardened by this method. For some applications, the frozen solution is mixed or kneaded to eliminate or reduce crystal formation. In some embodiments, Jojoba oil is added as a third ingredient.Utility as cosmetic bases, Vaseline substitutes, protective coatings, bandages, dermatological putties, carriers for germicidal or therapeutic agents, hair groomers, lubricants, such as sexual lubricants, stick cosmetics, such as lipsticks, and lip glosses is shown. When .alpha.-tocopherol acetate is added to such solutions formed with .alpha.-tocopherol or mixed tocopherols, the unpleasant odors associated therewith are suppressed.
