  • Patent number: 4540571
Abstract: The invention relates to cosmetic agents which contain, besides the usual basic cosmetic substances, natural yeast cell contents. The yeast cell contents are obtained by mechanically breaking open the yeast cell walls and by separating off the cell walls and any cell membranes, employing protective conditions. The invention relates also to extracts of yeast cell contents which contain an enriched fraction of yeast cell nuclei and which, when used in cosmetic agents, have an especially good skin-care effect. The native yeast cell contents comprise the cell contents without the cell walls, or the cell contents without cell walls and without nuclear membranes.

  • Patent number: 4537774
Abstract: Hot-water extracts of the neem bark produced by treating the bark of neem with water at a temperature from 0.degree. to 40.degree. C. and subjecting the residue from said pre-extraction treatment to extraction treatment with hot water. Purification of the extract thus produced by means of alcohol precipitation or dialysis gives products of a higher purity. Moreover, treatments prior to the pre-extraction treatment with water at 0.degree.-40.degree. C. with a non-polar organic solvent having a dielectric constant of 10 or lower and a polar organic solvent having a dielectric constant from 15 to 35 yields neem extracts of a further higher purity. The hot-water extracts of the neem bark according to the present invention possess activity against mouse L-5178Y cells and transplanted sarcoma 180 tumors.

  • Patent number: 4518592
Abstract: A process for preparing mangiferin from plants of the genus of Hedysarum (Hedysarum alpinum L., Hedysarum flavescens Rgl. et Schmalh) comprising extraction of xanthone glycosides from the aerial portion of the plants by means of a mixture acetone-water at a volume ratio of the mixture components of 1:0.5-2 respectively; the resulting extract is evaporated, the evaporated extract is filtered. To the filtered evaporated extract sulphuric acid is added to a pH of from 2 to 4, heated at reflux and filtered. The thus-prepared extract is treated with a non-polar organic solvent with the formation of two layers, wherefrom the upper aqueous layer contains xanthone glycosides. This upper layer is treated with butanol with the formation of two layers, wherefrom the upper layer comprises a solution of xanthone glycosides in butanol. This upper butanolic layer is evaporated. The precipitated mangiferin is separated and recrystallized.
