  • Patent number: 6675621
Abstract: Superplastic forming tools and method in which pairs of stacked metal blanks are serially loaded between heated forming dies that are moved to a closed position on each of the pair of blanks so that a partial perimeter gas seal is established therebetween. A pressure wedge is then introduced between the two blanks along one edge of the pair to act as a stopper or air seal to complete perimeter sealing thereof. The pressure wedge also establishes the operative position of a gas injection port, which directs pressurized air interiorly of the completed perimeter seal of the pair of blanks to force the blanks in opposite direction for the superplastic forming of a pair of discrete parts. The wedge and forming dies are then opened for the removal of a pair of formed parts and for the subsequent loading of additional pairs of stacked sheets for their simultaneous superplastic forming into pairs of parts.

  • Patent number: 6675848
Abstract: A method of harvesting standing trees in a jungle comprising bringing a crawler crane, preferably a hydraulic crawler crane, with a boom (14) to a block of jungle, securing the tree to be harvested to a sling in the boom, cutting the base of the tree, removing the cut tree using the boom, laying the cut tree on the ground, and cutting the crown of the cut tree. In another aspect the crown of the tree is cut first and removed by means of a sling on the boom of the crane. The crane is used to remove the crownless tree, or the crownless tree is cut at the base and allowed to fall. Main roads, spur roads, and snig tracks are constructed in the logging area.

  • Patent number: 6675623
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for manufacturing keystone type superconducting compacted stranded wires. In manufacturing the keystone type superconducting compacted stranded wires, a large number of superconducting wires are stranded to form stranded wires, which are then roll-formed. The method and apparatus are configured so that, in the roll-forming, one side of the compacted stranded wires, which is thinner than the other side thereof after being roll-formed, comes into contact with one flat roll before the other side of the compacted stranded wires comes into contact with another flat roll. The method and apparatus are provided as another configuration wherein one flat roll to contact with the compacted stranded wires to be thicker is smaller in diameter than another flat roll to contact with the compacted stranded wires to be thinner.

  • Patent number: 6675847
Abstract: A workbench with an adjustable height top dually engaged by twin standards with each standard having a single pawl-like structure laterally extended from front to back. The pawl mechanism in each standard is a laterally extended round rod engaging a vertical array of rounded ratchet apertures at the front and back end of the top. A novel safety mechanism to prevent inadvertent disengagement of the rod from the ratchet apertures is a combination of a tension spring connected between a chain and a foot actuator pedal. This spring prevents accidental release of the rod by absorbing unintentional or inadvertent minor force applied to the pedal. The rod-like structure or pawl provides superior structural rigidity for the bench when restricted with rear shims to rotation into the ratchet slots at an angle &agr; between less than about 45 degrees and greater than about 10 degrees.

  • Patent number: 6672205
Abstract: A large round baler includes a chassis which forms a forward part of a baling chamber, with a rearward part of the chamber being formed by a bale discharge gate. The discharge gate is constructed of first and second, separate parts that are, either each separately pivotally connected to chassis or are mounted such that the second part is pivotally attached to the first part. The parts are arranged such that arms of the second part overlap the opposite sides of the first part. Different embodiments disclose various driving structures for causing one part to be moved by moving the other part, with the arrangement of the two parts resulting in the gate being quickly moved to its open position for discharging a bale.

  • Patent number: 6668881
Abstract: A method for forming a curved surface in a decorated board which enables a woodworking process to be easily performed on a peripheral edge of a curved decorated board. A base board 1 and a decorating material 2, which eventually construct a headboard A as a decorated board, are each prepared by cutting a woody material into a preset configuration. After that, they are painted. With the base board 1 and the decorating material 2 remaining flat, the respective peripheral edges thereof are formed with chamfered portions 3, 4 through a woodworking process. Thus, such wood working can be performed without complex control. The base board 1 and the decorating material 2 thus worked are integrally laminated to each other, and then the headboard A thus obtained is bent, using a press machine or the like.

  • Patent number: 6666134
Abstract: A feedback control system for use in a press machine is adapted to monitor and adjust the clearance between the gib and slide. A connection bolt provides a connection between the gib and frame upright. A thermal applicator selectively heats and/or cools the connection bolt to induce a controlled deformation of the bolt, namely, an expansion and/or contraction, respectively. In one form, a heat-induced elongation of the bolt along its longitudinal dimension actuates a corresponding displacement of the gib towards the slide to regulate the spatial relationship therebetween. A sensor provides a measure of any possible clearance between the gib and slide. The clearance measurement is compared to allowable reference clearance data. A controller controls the heating and/or cooling action in accordance with the comparison results, thereby controllably moving the gib. The gib may be selectively displaced to optionally effectuate a partial or full close-out of the existing clearance.

  • Patent number: 6662713
Abstract: An apparatus to be appended to a rotary printing press for binding successive stacks of printings with a thermally fusible paper band. Included is a band looper for loosely looping the band around a load on a platform. After having been tightened against the load, the band has its lapping parts heated by a band heater into a fused joint and is cut off from its continuous supply. A heater control circuit is provided for causing the band heater to be normally energized for a preassigned period of time at regular intervals during the operation of the apparatus, keeping the heater heated to a temperature necessary for melting the thermoplastic overlay of the paper band. After the heater has heated the band on each load, the heater control circuit causes the heater to be energized for a longer period of time which is enough to compensate for a temperature drop due to the heating of the band.

  • Patent number: 6662714
Abstract: The flexible press fits onto: the rim of standard sized cans for the purpose of compressing the contents of canned food and forcibly evacuating liquids from the solid food. The device comprises; a flexible center section, an oblique band molded such that it is held in place by a friction fit on the outer edge of the can; and an opening radially-located on the flexible center section of the device, designed so that when the device is affixed onto a can and the center section is then depressed against the can's severed lid, the liquid is forced out of the can in a controlled manner and discriminately directed thru the opening in the device without contact to the user's body or clothing. As the press is removed, the compressed suction cup draws the severed lid away from the solid food and removes it from the can.
