  • Patent number: 6725767
Abstract: A pressing assembly (10) includes a press (12) being moveable from an open configuration to an operable configuration to compress an object (16). A loader (14) is also provided having one or more first pushers (42) moveable into a region within the press (12) to load the object (16) into a pressing zone within the press (12). The arrangement is such that the or each pusher (42) is clear of the pressing zone once the press (12) is in the operable configuration. The or each pusher (42) may be provided on a reciprocable pusher assembly (36) which is moveable in a forward and a reverse direction. In the forward direction of the reciprocable pusher assembly, the first pusher (42) pushes the object into a pressing zone in the press.

  • Patent number: 6725766
Abstract: A drive arrangement for controlling the tying function of a large rectangular baler includes a knotter drive shaft having a drive member mounted on it for free rotation. A one-way clutch is connected between the drive member and the drive shaft for rotating the drive shaft only when the drive member is rotated in a first direction. The drive member has an elongate flexible element associated therewith and is driven in the first direction by retraction of an extensible and retractable hydraulic motor having its rod end coupled to one end of the flexible element, the other end of the flexible element being coupled to a spring that stores energy only when the hydraulic motor is retracted. At the end of the tying function, the hydraulic motor is extended to its beginning position, the loaded spring then taking up the slack in the flexible element and the one-way clutch then free-wheeling.

  • Patent number: 6725768
Abstract: The lowermost of a plurality of vertically stacked cans, which have their longitudinal axes substantially vertical, is held at a first stop. A crush plate is advanced to have a first portion of its front wall engage a mid portion of the lowermost can to fold it about an axis perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. When the crush plate is withdrawn, the lowermost can falls to a second lower stop and the next stacked can is held at the first stop. The crush plate has the first portion of its front wall engage the next can to fold it and a second portion of its front wall engage the entire surface of the folded can to flatten it to enable the flattened can to exit past the second stop.

  • Patent number: 6718869
Abstract: In the method for threading a tail (7) of a paper or board web through a paper or board machine or a section thereof, or through an aftertreatment machine for paper or board or a section thereof, the tail (7) is prevented from wandering onto the same line with a tail carrier means (8, 9), such as threading ropes, upstream of the draw point of the tail. The tail (7) is guided towards the centre line of the machine by subjecting the tail to an effect of force which tends to move the tail towards the centre line of the machine.

  • Patent number: 6715407
Abstract: The method of the present invention for handling scrap tires, includes a step of providing a compacting apparatus to a scrap tire generator, such as a tire retailer. Before compacting the tires, the tire can be marked with a unique identifier assigned to every tire generator. By marking the scrap tires with a unique identifier, the scrap tires can be tracked on their way to the final destination. The compacting apparatus provides volume reduction of the scrap tires individually into a form that can have a reduction of at least fifty percent of original cubic volume. The tires can be pinched to maintain the compacted tire in the compacted form and prevent the compacted tire from regaining its original shape. The compacted scrap tires can be accumulated inside a tire collection enclosure, such as a trailer or dumpster. The collected tires can be transported with much more weight efficient loads of the tires to a transfer station, a recycling facility, or an end user.

  • Patent number: 6715409
Abstract: An apparatus for use in a press machine eliminates the free clearances present between the threaded portions of a screw and adjustment nut assembled in a shutheight adjustment mechanism. A hydraulic assembly directs a pressurized fluid against an outer periphery of the adjustment nut to effectively compress the adjustment nut and cause its threaded portion to be displaced into interlocking engagement with the threaded portion of the screw. Alternatively, the hydraulic assembly may be arranged to hydraulically pressurize an interior space of the screw to effectively expand the screw and cause its threaded portion to be displaced into interlocking engagement with the threaded portion of the adjustment nut.

  • Patent number: 6716090
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for planarizing a microelectronic-device substrate assembly on a planarizing pad. In one aspect of the invention, material is removed from the substrate assembly by pressing the substrate assembly against a planarizing surface of a planarizing pad and moving the substrate assembly across the planarizing surface through a planarizing zone. The method also includes replacing at least a portion of a used volume of planarizing solution on the planarizing surface with fresh planarizing solution during the planarization cycle of a single substrate assembly. The used planarizing solution can be replaced with fresh planarizing solution by actively removing the used planarizing solution from the pad with a removing unit and depositing fresh planarizing solution onto the pad in the planarizing zone.

  • Patent number: 6715329
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for forming a corner bounded on three sides from a flat plate part, in particular sheet metal, whereby the side edges adjacent to the corner are folded back across a major part of their longitudinal extension parallel with the flat plate part and shaped on a curved path in the region in which the corner is to be formed from the folded-back side edge to the plane of the flat plate part. The pre-formed blank is then pressed at the curved transition region by means of at least one roller system (42), spanning the corner region (10) between the side edges, against a tool (16) and the corner shaped by forming the material and optionally trimmed in a cutting device.

  • Patent number: 6711996
Abstract: A hay conditioning apparatus includes a first roller which is rotatably mounted in a fixed mounting and a second counter-rotating (compression) roller which is rotatably mounted in connection with a moveable mounting. The compression roller is in rolling contact with the first roller and is adapted to receive pre-cut hay therebetween for conditioning. The moveable mounting allows the compression roller to be displaced relative to the first roller as the hay passes between the rollers and also includes a hydraulic cylinder for applying a compression force to the compression roller. As the pre-cut hay passes between the rollers, it is subjected to a predetermined compression force sufficient to substantially flatten any green nodes on the hay and thereby accelerate drying of the hay.
