  • Patent number: 6694790
Abstract: Superplastic forming of sheet metal blanks is advanced both is quantity and quality with the utilization of a part separating and pressure distributing mid plate sandwiched between a pair of blanks. This arrangement is loaded between upper and lower die halves operatively mounted in a heated press which closes to effect the piercing of one of the blanks by a nozzle which subsequently delivers pressurized air or other inert gas to an intermediate chamber formed by the mid plate between the blanks to effect the simlayaneously forming of separate parts in both forming dies.

  • Patent number: 6695237
Abstract: The test mill is a reduced-scale model of an industrial mill used in the mining industry and comprising a rotary shell (10) capable of rotating about its longitudinal and horizontal axis. This shell is capable of containing a certain amount of grinding media and of receiving a certain amount of material to be ground so as to be able to operate under conditions comparable with those of an industrial mill. The shell is divided, in the longitudinal direction, by a perforated transverse partition (24), into a grinding chamber (20) and a measurement chamber (22), the perforations in the partition being sized to hold the grinding charge back and allow the ground matter to pass through, whereas the shell (10) comprises a series of injectors (28) allowing fluid products to be injected into the grinding chamber (20). It is possible to make in-situ and continuous analyses of the pulp in the measurement chamber.

  • Patent number: 6691545
Abstract: The invention concerns a tool for regulating the surface pressure on a blank constituting a metal plate which forms the starting item for shaping a finished item in a press. The blank is placed between a draw ring (23) and a blank holder ring (24). Besides, the tool comprises a shimming plate (1, 5, 10) provided with chambers (2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14) which are delimited by the shimming plate itself and by a flexible membrane (27). The shimming plate is placed between a tool bottom part (17), alternatively a tool top part (16), and the blank holder ring, alternatively the draw ring. A pressure medium like hydraulic oil may be led to the chambers. Thereby it is possible locally and individually to increase the surface pressure on the blank depending on the number of chambers, the design of chambers and the location of the chambers in the shimming plate. Furthermore, it is possible to regulate the pressure during the shaping process itself.

  • Patent number: 6688216
Abstract: A feedback control system for use in a press machine is adapted to monitor and adjust the clearance between the gib and slide. A pressurized chamber, such as a hydraulic piston-cylinder combination is disposed in actuating relationship to the gib. Selective pressurization of the piston-cylinder induces a controlled displacement of the gib towards or away from the slide, thereby regulating the spatial relationship therebetween. A sensor provides a measure of any possible clearance between the gib and slide. The clearance measurement is compared to allowable reference data. A controller controls the pressurization of the chamber in accordance with the comparison results, thereby controllably moving the gib. The gib may be selectively displaced to optionally effectuate a minimal clearance condition.

  • Patent number: 6688217
Abstract: An improved twin screw extruder device (14) is provided which is capable of producing a wide variety of high quality extrudates having greatly varying final properties, without the need for extensive machine modifications. The extruder (14) includes a barrel (16) together with a co-rotating twin screw assembly (22). The assembly (22) is made up of a pair of screws (50, 52) having central, tapered shafts (54, 56) equipped with outwardly extending helical flighting (58, 60); the screws (50, 52) are non-parallel and are positioned so that the flighting (58, 60) thereof is intercalated along the length of the screws (50, 52). The fighting is of specialized configuration and tapers along the length of the screws (50, 52) preferably at an angle of taper different than that of the shafts (54, 56); moreover, the width of the outer flighting surfaces (70, 72) increases along the length of the shafts (54, 56).

  • Patent number: 6688151
Abstract: A roll shifting cylinder 14 is driven to pivot a lever arm 12, thereby shifting a work roll 1 via a thrust bearing 15. A control unit 27 performs auto-positioning control, based on a shift amount performance value of the thrust bearing 15 detected by a shift amount detection sensor 16, so as to obtain a target roll shift position. A constant clearance amount is maintained between an end surface of the work roll 1 and the thrust bearing 15 during a rolling operation, and a chockless mill is effectively used as a work roll shift mill.

  • Patent number: 6684764
Abstract: An apparatus for removing liquid from a composite mixture of liquid and solids comprises a hopper mounted atop a compactor ram assembly. A snout section and an extruder section are mounted axial to the compactor ram assembly. A hydraulically-operated ram compresses wet material into the snout and extruder sections. Under pressure from the ram, liquid in the waste material escapes from drainage holes in the snout section top, bottom, and sides, and the extruder section top, bottom, and sides. A platen, pivotally mounted to the extruder top plate near the exit of the device and biased with a constant pressure, controls the back pressure in the extruder and snout sections. The apparatus has an extruder section and snout section of the same constant cross section and coaxial with each other. In a second embodiment of the apparatus, certain of the walls may diverge to further facilitate access to the first platen through the exit opening.

  • Patent number: 6682005
Abstract: Raw material containing precious metals and heavy minerals is introduced into a comminuting chamber. The raw material falls onto rotating chains which drive the material against the side wall of the chamber with sufficient velocity to cause the raw material to fracture. Air flows upwardly at the side wall and classifies the particles into a first fraction which falls to the floor of the chamber and a second fraction which is carried upward to a trommel. Large particles from the trommel are recycled to the chamber while fines are discarded as tailings. The rate of upward flow of air in the chamber, the rate of rotation of the chains and the size of particles separated by the trommel are all adjusted in order to ensure that the particles that collect on the floor of the chamber are rich in precious metals and heavy minerals.
