  • Patent number: 6813135
Abstract: A variable capacitor of the invention includes a beam having flexibility and an electrode provided close to the beam in order to form a capacitor with the beam. By applying a voltage to between the beam and the electrode to thereby deflect the beam by an electrostatic force, a capacitance between the both is changed. The deflected beam and the electrode are placed into contact through an insulation layer formed on a surface of at least one thereof, to change a contact area thereof, thereby changing the capacitance. Meanwhile, the electrode is divided in plurality. A recess is formed such that one electrode is lower than a height of another electrode surface. By applying a voltage to the beam and the electrode corresponding to the recess, the beam is pulled to an inside of the recess, thereby enabling to eliminate stiction.

  • Patent number: 6807046
Abstract: A power capacitor for high voltage including at least one capacitor element enclosed in a container, use of a gel in such a capacitor, and a method for manufacture of the capacitor. A space is formed between each capacitor element and the container. The power capacitor can handle problems concerning oil leakage in such a capacitor. In the power capacitor the space is filled up by a dielectric fluid including a gelling component. Because a gel is used instead of oil, the risk of oil leakage is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6798640
Abstract: A method for constructing a capacitor having an increased equivalent series resistance (ESR) is disclosed. In one embodiment, a capacitor includes a plurality of capacitor plates comprised of a conductive material and first and second capacitor terminals. At least one of the capacitor plates is coupled to the first terminal and at least one of the capacitor plates is coupled to the second terminal. At least one of the plurality of capacitor plates includes a pattern, wherein the pattern is void of conductive material. The void in the conductive material formed by the pattern may cause a path of current flow through the capacitor plate to be substantially altered in comparison to a capacitor plate that is continuous. By using capacitor plates having voids of conductive material that cause the current path to be altered in comparison to continuous capacitor plates, a capacitor can be constructed having a higher ESR.

  • Patent number: 6798634
Abstract: A device with a safety circuit with an armature activated by a solenoid activates an electromagnet. The device has a switch connected in series to the solenoid, a device temporarily interrupting application of the voltage, first and second clock generators, first and second resistors, and a current detection switch. DC voltage is applied to the solenoid when the switch is closed. The voltage is interrupted when a predetermined current flowing through the solenoid is detected. The first clock generator actuates the switch during a predetermined first clock cycle. The detection switch detects current flowing through the solenoid. The first resistor, in conjunction with the response threshold of the current detection switch, determines the holding current for the armature. The second resistor generates an attraction current for the armature when activated by the second clock generator in a predetermined second clock cycle partially overlapping the first clock cycle.
