  • Patent number: 7920553
Abstract: A packet-based, hierarchical communication system, arranged in a spanning tree configuration, is described in which wired and wireless communication networks exhibiting substantially different characteristics are employed in an overall scheme to link portable or mobile computing devices. The network accommodates real time voice transmission both through dedicated, scheduled bandwidth and through a packet-based routing within the confines and constraints of a data network. Conversion and call processing circuitry is also disclosed which enables access devices and personal computers to adapt voice information between analog voice stream and digital voice packet formats as proves necessary. Routing pathways include wireless spanning tree networks, wide area networks, telephone switching networks, internet, etc., in a manner virtually transparent to the user.

  • Patent number: 7916641
Abstract: An error management system and process can be used to identify an erroneous data packet in a data stream. In response to identifying the erroneous data packet, a subsequent valid data packet is located in the data stream. In one embodiment, a plurality of candidate locations of header checksum windows are searched and checked for a valid checksum. Multiple integrity checks of multiple header checksums can be used to reduce the probability of a false positive integrity check. In another embodiment, one or more information data fields can used for determining packet integrity by determining if the fields contain valid information bits.

  • Patent number: 7876672
Abstract: For a survivable portion of a network, a backup port for a first router of the survivable network, to reach a destination node in the event of a single node failure, may be determined by (a) accepting a routing path graph having the destination node, wherein the routing path graph includes one or more links terminated by one or more primary ports of the first router; and (b) for each router of at least a part of the routing path graph, (1) assuming that the current router is removed, defining (A) a first part of the routing path graph including the destination node, and (B) a second part of the routing path graph separated from the first part wherein the second part defines one or more sub-graphs, and (2) determining the backup port for the first router by examining at least one of the one or more sub-graphs to find a link to the first part of the routing path graph.

  • Patent number: 7869434
Abstract: An apparatus, method and system are provided for routing a broadcast data frame in a mesh network with multiple mesh portals. In the mesh network, every mesh point selects and registers its default mesh portal. A mesh portal enters its address in a destination address field of a broadcast data frame received from outside of the mesh network and broadcasts the data frame to inside of the mesh network. The mesh point processes a received broadcast data frame relating to its registered mesh portal, thereby preventing the broadcast data frame from being redundantly transmitted in the mesh network.

  • Patent number: 7826466
Abstract: Media Access Control (MAC) layer transmit and receive buffering with multi-level prioritization. The receive buffering allocates receive buffers for receiving frame data from a PHY interface in priority order using both a static and dynamic buffer allocation, and delivers completed buffers queued in a multi-level priority queue to a host interface highest priority first. The transmit buffering delivers completed buffers queued in a multi-level priority queue to the PHY interface in priority order. When the multi-level priority queue contains a buffer that is higher priority than one being prepared for transmit, a priority-based interruption causes the transmit processing of the buffer to be suspended at its current state with the higher priority buffer taking its place. Upon completion of the higher priority buffer, the suspended buffer is resumed at its current state.

  • Patent number: 7801122
Abstract: The number of managed network elements within a SONET network is configured to exceed the number addressable elements in a given address area. This is achieved through the use of SONET extension network elements and a special TL1 command message protocol. Any network element that has only one optical path (protected or unprotected) to an adjacent network in the SONET network can become an extension network element. TL1 command messages may be targeted to an extension network element through its only adjacent network element based on the network element's physical port connecting the network element to the extension network element.

  • Patent number: 7796614
Abstract: Systems and methods consistent with embodiments of the present invention provide a method for forwarding packets between VLAN groups served by segmented ports on a network switching device. A request from a source in a VLAN group to a destination in another VLAN group is identified. Information needed to route packets to the destination is obtained by re-broadcasting the request for destination information to all VLAN groups, which do not include the source, that are served by the network switching device. Information needed to route packets to the source is also obtained. In some embodiments, source and destination routing information obtained, is stored in tables in a memory cache on the network switching device. Information stored in the tables is used to relay additional packets between the segmented ports on the device serving the source and destination.

  • Patent number: 7792154
Abstract: Mechanisms for controlling asynchronous clock domains to perform synchronous operations are provided. With these mechanisms, when a synchronous operation is to be performed on a chip, the latches of the functional elements of the chip are controlled by a synchronous clock so that the latches are controlled synchronously even across asynchronous boundaries of the chip. The synchronous operation may then be performed and the chip's functional elements returned to being controlled by a local clock in an asynchronous manner after completion of the synchronous operation. This synchronous operation may be, for example, a power on reset (POR) operation, a manufacturing test sequence, debug operation, or the like.

  • Patent number: 7764706
Abstract: A network, such as a radio network, uses dynamic transmission scheduling and soft clustering. When nodes contend for data slots, each node that is successful continues to have its data slot reserved for it until it sets an end-of-stream bit in an information summarization packet, indicating that it will stop broadcasting. From the information summarization packets, each node determines the other nodes to which it will listen, based on proximity and information content.

  • Patent number: 7764708
Abstract: A header-information adding unit adds a device ID for identifying a device at a sending node and a device ID for identifying a device at a receiving node to a header of a packet sent by the sending node. The packet is transmitted to a data-format converting device by a packet transmitting unit. In the data-format converting device, the packet is received by a packet receiving unit, and is sent to a unique-information detecting unit. The unique-information detecting unit detects the device IDs from the header of the packet, and sends them to a data-format converting unit with the packet data. The data-format converting unit determines the data formats used by the sending node and the receiving node based on the detected device IDs, and converts the data format of the packet sent by the sending node into the data format of by the receiving node.

  • Patent number: 7751324
Abstract: Transmitting media information from a transmitting device to a receiving device. To perform the transmission a media stream is encoded and packets are formed from the encoded media stream, the packets containing application data units, the application data units having a decoding order. At least two blocks are generated from the packets. The packets of the at least two blocks are organized into a first group and a second group, the first group being decodable without reception of said second group. The transmission order of the packets of said first group is arranged succeeding packets of said second group such that the application data units in the transmission order are at least partly in a different order than the decoding order.

  • Patent number: 7746776
Abstract: A system selectively drops data from queues. The system includes a drop table that stores drop probabilities. The system selects one of the queues to examine and generates an index into the drop table to identify one of the drop probabilities for the examined queue. The system then determines whether to drop data from the examined queue based on the identified drop probability.
