  • Patent number: 9160645
Abstract: A network performance measurement relies on the transmission of a verifiable, single-use, highly-entropic file across the network. Upon receiving a network performance measurement query from a user equipment (UE) device communicating through a mobile communication network, a test utility (TU) server generates a test file having high entropy such that it does not reduce substantially in size when compressed using standard compression algorithms. The test file is assigned a filename including a variable component, and the file is transmitted to the UE device. Information relating to the transmission of the test file is logged, and a network performance measurement value for the transport of the high-entropy test file to the UE device is computed based on the logged information. In one example, hash-value computations are used to verify that the test file received in the UE device is complete and accurate.

  • Patent number: 9148847
Abstract: A method for implementing mobile device-initiated inter-radio access technology (I-RAT) handovers between networks includes a wireless device communicating with a first network using an internet protocol (IP) address that was received from the first network during an initial attachment procedure. The wireless device may initiate an I-RAT handover procedure to connect to a second wireless network using a configuration message that includes a handover attach type. Once the connection with the second network is established, the wireless device may receive the information from the second wireless network using the same IP address. The wireless device may force the wireless device into dormancy and prevent data transfer, and initiate another I-RAT handover procedure to upgrade and connect to the first network, by sending an attach request message that includes a handover attach type.

  • Patent number: 9143277
Abstract: A physical layer (PL) frame generation method is provided. A PL payload is generated by encoding and modulating source data based on a first modcod of a first set. A synchronization header, comprising a first unique word (UW) (designed to facilitate efficient and reliable detection by terminals of a relatively low SNR operating range), and a modcod field (which indicates the first modcod scheme), is appended to the PL payload. A PL header is appended to the synchronization header and PL payload to form the PL frame. The PL header comprises a second UW and physical layer signaling (PLS). The PLS comprises encoded data fields reflecting a length of the PL frame, where the fields are encoded based on a second modcod scheme of a second set. The first modcod set is designed for SNR operating levels relatively lower than the SNR operating levels of the second modcod set.

  • Patent number: 9119174
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for a user equipment transmitting acknowledgement/negative-ACK (AC/NACK) signals to a relay node in a wireless communication system. More particularly, the present invention comprises the following steps: setting an uplink subframe pattern including uplink blocked subframes and uplink non-blocked subframes, and selecting an ACK/NACK reception factor for each of the uplink subframes; receiving data from the relay node through at least one downlink subframe; and repeatedly transmitting ACK/NACK signals corresponding to the data, based on the uplink subframe pattern and the ACK/NACK reception factor, wherein when the uplink subframe for receiving the ACK/NACK signal is a specific uplink blocked subframe, the ACK/NACK signals are received by the non-blocked subframes allocated to the user equipment, following the specific uplink blocked subframe.

  • Patent number: 9119110
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for signaling the bandwidth to be used for wireless communications using an RTS/CTS (Request to Send/Clear to Send) frame exchange, providing for bandwidths of at least 20 MHz, 40 MHz, 80 MHz, 160 MHz, or higher. This exchange of bandwidth information may be performed implicitly—by determining the channels in which the RTS/CTS frames are actually sent—or explicitly. In addition to this bandwidth information exchange, aspects of the present disclosure may also allow for Network Allocation Vector (NAV) protection in multiple channels. In this manner, the wireless medium may be reserved, and the transmission may be protected from hidden nodes.

  • Patent number: 9112786
Abstract: A system provides congestion control and includes multiple queues that temporarily store data and a drop engine. The system associates a value with each of the queues, where each of the values relates to an amount of memory associated with the queue. The drop engine compares the value associated with a particular one of the queues to one or more programmable thresholds and selectively performs explicit congestion notification or packet dropping on data in the particular queue based on a result of the comparison.
