  • Patent number: 9319959
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for evaluating an ongoing VoIP over WiFi call for purposes of determining when to hand it off to a circuit-switched cellular network connection. 802.11 WiFi call quality values X(i) over a sampled time period (N) of (j) samples for an ongoing telephone call over an 802.11 WiFi communication link are obtained and stored. An instantaneous annoyance value a(j) for each of the stored call quality values X(j) within sampled time period (N) is calculated. A current accumulated annoyance value A(i) by summing the instantaneous annoyance values a(j) is also calculated. The accumulated annoyance value A(i) is compared to a handoff threshold value H(i). A handoff of the telephone call from the 802.11 WiFi communication link to a circuit-switched cellular communication link is initiated when the accumulated annoyance value A(i) is greater than the handoff threshold value H(i).

  • Patent number: 9307555
Abstract: A method for a mobile terminal to access a network through a cell phone is provided. The mobile terminal may be connected to a network enabled cell phone via a WIFI (wireless fidelity) connection mode, and the network enabled cell phone may serve as a gateway router. TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/internet protocol) operating principle having element information, such as source address, source port, protocol, destination address and destination port in a data packet, may be processed when a data packet arrives at a network layer of a network enabled cell phone. A Hash table may be dynamically established for searching a network connection, and NAT (network address translation) treatment may be carried out to a data packet, thus, an associated mobile terminal may simultaneously access the network with the network enabled cell phone by the external network IP address of the network enabled cell phone.

  • Patent number: 9306910
Abstract: Methods and systems for implementing private allocated networks in a virtual infrastructure are presented. One method operation creates virtual switches in one or more hosts in the virtual infrastructure. Each port in the virtual switches is associated with a private allocated network (PAN) from a group of possible PANs. In one embodiment, one or more PANs share the same physical media for data transmission. The intranet traffic within each PAN is not visible to nodes that are not connected to the each PAN. In another operation, the method defines addressing mode tables for the intranet traffic within each PAN. The entries in the addressing mode tables define addressing functions for routing the intranet traffic between the virtual switches, and different types of addressing functions are supported by the virtual switches.

  • Patent number: 9301202
Abstract: The disclosure discloses a method and system for controlling access to a shared network. In both the method and the system, a core network node may send an overload indicator capable of distinguishing PLMNs to an access network node when the core network node is overloaded; and the access network node may learn a PLMN over which access control needs to be performed according to the overload indicator received. The method and the system of the disclosure distinguish the PLMNs in performing access control according to an actual situation of overload of the network node caused by a PLMN sharing the network, ensuring the fairness in performing access control over terminals of all PLMNs sharing the network. Therefore, the problem of unfairness in performing access control over terminals of different PLMNs in a network sharing scenario is solved.

  • Patent number: 9300398
Abstract: Enhancements in optical beam propagation performance can be realized through the utilization of ultra-short pulse laser (USPL) sources for laser transmit platforms, which are can be used throughout the telecommunication network infrastructure fabric. One or more of the described and illustrated features of USPL free space-optical (USPL-FSO) laser communications can be used in improving optical propagation through the atmosphere, for example by mitigating optical attenuation and scintillation effects, thereby enhancing effective system availability as well as link budget considerations, as evidenced through experimental studies and theoretical calculations between USPL and fog related atmospheric events.

  • Patent number: 9270774
Abstract: The processing of data packets sent over a communication session between a host and a server by a service gateway includes processing a data packet using a current hybrid-stateful or hybrid-stateless processing method. The processing then checks whether a hybrid-stateless or hybrid-stateful condition is satisfied. When one of the sets of conditions is satisfied, the process includes changing from a hybrid-stateful to a hybrid-stateless processing method, or vice versa, for a subsequently received data packet. If the conditions are not satisfied, the process continues as originally structured.

  • Patent number: 9252915
Abstract: This disclosure describes, in part, a system management component for use in a power grid data network to systematically adjust the quality of service of data published by publishers and subscribed to by subscribers within the network. In one implementation, subscribers may identify a desired data rate, a minimum acceptable data rate, desired latency, minimum acceptable latency and a priority for each subscription and the system management component may adjust the data rates in real-time to ensure that the power grid data network does not become overloaded and/or fail. In one example, subscriptions with lower priorities may have their quality of service adjusted before subscriptions with higher priorities. In each instance, the quality of service may be maintained, even if reduced, to meet or exceed the minimum acceptable quality of service for the subscription.
