Abstract: An approach is provided for increasing the functionality of an electronic device when the device is in a locked state. The approach involves determining one or more applications for presentation at a device. The approach also involves determining that the device is in a locked state. The approach further involves processing and/or facilitating a processing of the one or more applications to cause, at least in part, presentation of the one or more applications in a user interface of the device associated with the locked state.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method and a corresponding apparatus for displaying an arc menu index, which are used to display index characters on an arc display bar. The method according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: receiving a menu expanding instruction; and expanding an arc menu index on a display according to the menu expanding instruction, where the arc menu index includes an index operation area, an index pointer, and index characters; the index operation area is an area encompassed by an arc border line displayed on the display and a display frame intersecting the arc border line, the index characters are arranged along the arc border line, and the index pointer is located in the index operation area and is configured to indicate a selected index character.

Abstract: A comprehensive user control system for use with therapeutic wellness devices is described, comprising such a wellness device, data equipment capable of connection to a data communications network, and a removable data link capable of permitting data communication between the wellness device and data equipment. Other embodiments comprise a general purpose computer capable of connection to a data communications network and programmed to control a wellness device across a removable data link; a method of controlling a wellness device including obtaining over certain data communications connections a program for controlling the device and operating the device in accordance with the program; and a method of controlling a wellness device comprising presentation of a request for therapeutic relief not specifying a particular mechanical action to be performed by the device, and translation of that request into at least one command executable by at least one wellness device.

Abstract: According to an aspect, an electronic device includes a display unit, a detecting unit, and a control unit, and composes a mail that includes an image and a text. The display unit displays a first screen and a second screen in such a manner that the first screen and the second screen do not overlap each other. The first screen displays an overview of the mail, and the second screen edits an image or a text as an element to be added to the mail. The detecting unit detects an operation. When an operation made on the second screen is detected by the detecting unit, the control unit updates the overview of the mail that is displayed on the first screen in accordance with the operation.

Abstract: A chapter creating device creates chapter data which indicates a reproduction point of content including at least one of screen image and sound and includes time information indicating a reproduction start position and a header indicating the outline of the content at the reproduction point. The chapter creating device includes: a live data receiving unit that receives live data including character string data which is input to a terminal; a chapter candidate selecting unit that displays the live data received by the live data receiving unit on a display unit so as to prompt a user to select the displayed live data using an input unit; and a chapter creating unit that creates the chapter data including the character string data of the selected live data as the header and the data registration date and time of the selected live data as the time information.

Abstract: In an example embodiment, a system and method is illustrated that includes receiving a first cursor actuation signal from a cursor controlling device where the first cursor actuation signal received at a first cursor position in a graphical user interface. Further, the system and method includes determining an old hierarchy level, determining a new hierarchy level based on the first cursor position and the old hierarchy level, and selecting a target object based on the new hierarchy level and the first cursor position.

Abstract: The present invention is a device for processing text strings by displaying at least two bands of characters of an alphabet, each band having one character designated as the focus character, with the focus character of a first band being highlighted initially, and having a band switching means for switching the highlighted character to the focus character of another band, a character choosing means for switching the highlighted character in a band to a different character in the band, and a character selecting means for selecting the currently highlighted character. The character choosing means and band switching means are typically arrow buttons on a control device and the character selecting means is typically an “enter” button. The invention also includes the corresponding method of entering text strings into a text processing device.

Abstract: A system and method for inputting a password. The system and method operates to associate unique non-descriptive graphical features with unique text-based characters. The system and method operates to receive in sequence, a plurality of text-based characters. The system and method operates to display in sequence, in accordance with a sequence scheme, the non-descriptive graphical features associated with the plurality of text-based characters. The system and method also operates to process the plurality of text-based characters as the password. In addition, the system and method operates wherein the password, including text-based characters, may be deciphered from both the display of the non-descriptive graphical features associated with the plurality of text-based characters and the sequence scheme.

Abstract: A user interface for a touch-screen display of a computing device is described. The user interface has an edge navigation feature designed to facilitate navigation through digital content items, such as electronic books, in response to user input received via the touch-screen display. This navigation may be to an arbitrary point within the content, or to previously defined bookmarks. The user interface provides a representation of a virtual edge of the content object, such as a book or album. Presentation of this virtual edge, overlaid with bookmark indicators, allows the user to spatially visualize the position of content within the book, and select a desired location or bookmark.

Abstract: Various aspects and embodiments are directed to a graphical user interface that organizes interface elements into views of computer content for presentation to a user. Different views of are used to provide an interface that is responsive to configurations of the device and responsive to activity being performed by the user. Aspects include permitting the user to transition the device from one configuration to another during its use, for example from easel to laptop modes. Further the elements that comprise the graphical user interface are configured to present a summarized view of available actions and content, in order to simplify user interaction. The different views present different organizations of the interface elements and in some example display only certain ones of the modes of content in order to reduce the number of options a user must navigate to accomplish an objective. According to another aspect, methods and systems for streamlining user interaction with computer content are provided.

The first macro file refers to a second macro file, and includes one or more elements embedded in a wrapper associated with the second macro file. Based at least in part on the second macro file, a user interface component is generated.

Abstract: Locate information, marking information, and/or landmark information relating to a locate operation and/or a marking operation to detect and/or mark a presence or an absence of at least one underground facility is categorized into a plurality of display layers for electronic rendering. At least some of the display layers may be independently enabled or disabled for display such that only enabled display layers are displayed in a display field of a display device. Alternate enabling and disabling of one or more display layers facilitates comparative viewing of the layers. A layer directory or layer legend pane may be displayed to allow for selective enabling/disabling of one or more layers. One or more layers further may be categorized into sub-layers, and respective sub-layers of a given layer similarly may be independently enabled or disabled for display.

The virtual workspace corresponds to an application or a service common to the devices. Monitoring of the movement of one or more of the devices causes manipulation of the virtual workspace, the application, the service, or a combination thereof based, at least in part, on the movement. Example applications and services include media editing, media playback, image processing, social networking, and social control functionality.

Abstract: The positions of target and a video surveillance sensor are plotted on a computer map display. An icon representing the target and its movement with time is shown on the map, as is the movement of the sensor. The mapping facility preferably is used together with a logger for applying electronic tags and displaying live feeds and stored images of the target, and a timeline device for quickly locating stored images having desired attributes.

Example methods may be designed so that the neighborhood concepts for a selected focus concept may be automatically displayed in a hybrid display that efficiently uses display area, while the concepts may be generally presented in an easy-to-comprehend format.

Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed that relate to display of filtered data via ordered values. One embodiment provides for filtering a collection of items via a range of ordered values associated with a rule user interface object. Upon receiving an adjustment to the rule interface object which changes the range, the collection is filtered to display selected items corresponding to that updated range. Further, based on a comparison between the updated range and a threshold, display of the rule may be updated to display values associated with a different granularity level.
