  • Patent number: 7059780
Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical module with a small size and improved mass-productivity. The optical module comprises a fiber stub including an optical fiber, a sleeve containing the fiber stub, and a semiconductor optical amplifying device. A Bragg fiber grating is formed in the optical fiber. The optical fiber is secured in the ferrule. The optical amplifying device and the grating form a laser cavity. Only a part of the hollow portion of the sleeve is filled with the fiber stub. One end face of the optical fiber is disposed at one end of the sleeve. The other end of the sleeve is hollow. The optical module acts as an optical receptacle. An optical plug can be inserted into the hollow end of the sleeve. This enables the laser light to be introduced into an external optical device.

  • Patent number: 7061182
Abstract: A metal halide lamp has an arc tube including an arc tube container made of an oxide-based translucent ceramic material. The arc tube is filled with cerium halide as a luminescent material and a halide of a rare earth element that is more reactive with the ceramic material than is the cerium halide. Accordingly, a reaction between the oxide-based translucent ceramic material and the halide of a rare earth element is accelerated while a reaction between the oxide-based translucent ceramic material and the cerium halide is suppressed. This suppresses a decrease of the cerium halide that serves for light emission, and also reduces changes in the lamp color temperature. Thereby, during aging of the lamp, the flux maintenance factor and color temperature are improved. Therefore, the indoor-outdoor metal halide lamp provides a white light source color that has high-wattage, high luminous efficiency, and a long service life.

  • Patent number: 7053537
Abstract: An electron beam apparatus in which a spacer having a high-resistance film coating a surface of a base material is inserted between a rear plate having electron emitting elements and row-direction wires, and a faceplate having a metal back. The row-direction wires and the metal back are electrically connected via the high-resistance film. An electric field near an electron emitting element near the spacer is maintained to substantially constant irrespective of the positional relationship between the spacer and the electron emitting element near the spacer. When a sheet resistance value of the high-resistance film on a first facing surface of the spacer that faces a row-direction wire is represented by R1, and a sheet resistance value of the high-resistance film on a side surface adjacent to the electron emitting element is represented by R2, R2/R1 is 10 to 200.

  • Patent number: 7049747
Abstract: An integrated micro-photomultiplier is disclosed which employs sub-micron-wide channels for electron amplification. These channels are created with standard lithographic and planar-fabrication techniques, and sealed with a vacuum-deposition process. A photocathode, continuous dynode, anode and signal-collector are fabricated along the channels. This photomultiplier design obviates the needs for through-substrate etching, and mechanical assembly of separate layers. Because large-scale-integration techniques can be used to fabricate multiple micro-photomultipliers, significant reductions in device cost and size are expected. The integrated micro-photomultiplier is useful for high-speed, low-light-level optical detection, and may find applications in optical communications, visible or infrared imaging, and chemical or biological sensing.
