    Abstract: By kneading a composition containing a filler and an organic forming binder, extruding the composition, baking the composition in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, there is obtained a first baked lead containing, as a binder, a carbon obtained by the carbonization of the organic forming binder. Then, by heating the first baked lead in an oxidizing atmosphere to remove the binder carbon, there is formed a second baked lead composed of at least the filler. The pores of the second baked lead are impregnated with a solution containing perhydropolysilazane, subjecting the lead to a heat treatment in an inert atmosphere or an ammonia gas atmosphere to form a third baked lead containing the resultant silicon nitride. Finally, ink is filled into the pores of the third baked lead to provide a baked color pencil lead.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for decolorizing paper pulp containing colored fibers. The paper is first pulped and subjected to fine screening. The screened pulp is then dispersed at a temperature in excess of 100.degree. C. and a pressure exceeding one atmosphere absolute pressure. Prior to the dispersing step a first agent (a reducing agent or oxidizing agent) is introduced to the pulp. A second agent is introduced to said pulp after introduction of the first agent. The second agent is an oxidizing agent when the first agent is a reducing agent, and a reducing agent when the first agent is an oxidizing agent. Finally, the dispersed pulp is recovered after the colored fibers are decolorized.

    Abstract: The invention consists of soft, bulky tissue products that result from the presence of a debonder/softening agent in the outer layers of the tissue and creping under "closed" pocket conditions. The debonder/softening agents belong to a group of organic chemicals that include several imidazolinium quaternary compounds. These chemicals do not adversely interfere with adhesion, unlike most debonders, to the drying surface of the tissue machine. They can, therefore, be placed in the outer layers of the tissue that contact the dryer surface and improve creping. The tissue can then be creped off of the drying surface using a closed pocket, that is a pocket angle of less than 80 degrees. The closed pocket creping normally produces a thicker, less dense tissue but with coarse crepe. Closed pocket creping and the presence of most debonders in the dryer side layers would be expected to also produce coarse crepe structures.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for improving the ash characteristics of a paper wrapper for a smoking article and for improving the ash characteristics of the smoking article itself. Specifically, it has been unexpectedly discovered that the ash characteristics of a paper wrapper are noticeably improved when a calcium carbonate filler having a median particle size of from about 0.15 microns to about 0.5 microns is incorporated into the paper. Paper wrappers made with the calcium carbonate particles of the present invention have superior ash characteristics in comparison to paper wrappers incorporating calcium carbonate particles of larger or smaller sizes. Further, the ash characteristics of the paper are improved without having to alter total filler levels in the paper.

A particulaly preferable example of the plant is the kenaf.

    Abstract: A tank furnace for the inertization of non-flammable batch, which contains hazardous substances, metals and less than 10% by weight of carbon, by vitrification with glass forming aggregates by producing a glassy melt. The furnace has a batch charging device and a tank, on the rim of which a furnace crown rests, electrodes for heating the melt, a supply of oxidizing gases to the melt and, as an outlet for the melt, an overflow channel which can be heated. Nozzles are installed in the bottom of the tank to introduce oxidizing gases in order to reduce the eluate values, and the electrodes are immersed in the melt from above. It is preferable to install the nozzles at sloping sidewalls of the tank which slope upwardly and outwardly.

    Abstract: A process for preparing a fermented malt beverage wherein brewing materials ere mashed with water and the resulting mash is heated and wort separated therefrom. The wort is boiled, cooled and fermented and the beer is subjected to a finishing stage, which includes aging, to produce the final beverage. The improvement comprises subjecting the beer to a cold stage comprising rapidly cooling the beer to a temperature of about its freezing point in such a manner that ice crystals are formed therein in only minimal amounts. The resulting cooled beer is then mixed for a short period of time with a beer slurry containing ice crystals, without any appreciable collateral increase in the amount of ice crystals in the resulting mixture. Finally, the so-treated beer is extracted from the mixture.

    Abstract: A tire soaper apparatus including a soaper station and a conveyor for selectively advancing tires to the soaping station. The soaping station is characterized by a translationally mounted rotator for being moved into engagement with a tire to thereby rotate it, a pivotally mounted soap applicator located above the conveyor for selectively contacting the beads of the tire, and a soap dispensing circuit for selectively providing soap at the soap applicator for applying soap to the beads of the tire. The soap applicator is pivoted into the central opening of the tire and engages, via bead receptacles, each of the beads thereof. The tire is rotated by the rotator rotating against the tread of thereof, wherein the rotator moves translationally toward the soap applicator so that the tire is squeezed therebetween with the beads seated in the bead receptacles and soap transferred to the beads as the tire rotates in relation to the soap applicator.
