  • Patent number: 6843443
Abstract: A winder has an extra section. The extra section includes a gripper; and a brake, for controlling a wire force without having to change a pitch diameter of the gripper or a sprocket. The wire winder, is controlled by, as a tower travels around a tank, generating a square wave from the wheel drive; feeding said square wave to a counter and counting the square waves; comparing the number of counts with a number selected by an operator for a spacing location; powering a proportional hydraulic valve, and thereby pressurizing fluid into an elevator hydraulic motor; thereby rotating the motor until the spacing counter has counted the pre-selected number; and shutting the hydraulic flow. Epoxy is used to protect seismic cables from liquids.

  • Patent number: 6830235
Abstract: A hydraulic capstan to pull electric or communication wire through conduit or open trenches over long distances from a stationary position. The capstan is powered by a hydraulic motor. An operator can activate the motor from inside the cab of a vehicle to turn the capstan. The rope attached to the wire is wrapped around the capstan. When the rope is pulled tight on the turning capstan, the rope comes on one side and off the other side, pulling the wire load.

  • Patent number: 6811112
Abstract: An active feedback levelwind apparatus and method for winding cable on a drum has a rotary encoder providing signals representative of drum rotation and a shuttle adjacent the drum receives, bidirectionally moves and wraps the cable on the drum. An outboard sensor assembly on the shuttle has an angular sensor providing signals representative of the angle of extension of an outboard extending portion of the cable. An inboard sensor assembly on the shuttle has an inboard sensor providing signals representative of the angle of extension of an inboard extending portion of the cable. A stepper motor coupled to a computer system bidirectionally displaces the shuttle and cable in response to the rotation signals, outboard angular signals, inboard angular signals and limit signals to smoothly wind the cable. Error position feedback signals from the computer system create corrective displacements for the shuttle to smoothly wind cables of varying widths.

  • Patent number: 6766934
Abstract: Strip material is fed to a reduction rolling mill by a steering device in the form of a pinch roll stand comprising pinch rolls to which strip gripping forces are applied by hydraulic cylinder units located at the ends of the pinch rolls. A reduction mill is similarly provided with a pair of hydraulic cylinder units which are independently operable to vary the pressure applied by the reduction rolls across the strip. Sensors sense the position of the strip at a first location in advance of the pinch rolls and a second location in advance of the rolling mill. This output of sensors is fed to a controller which controls operation of both sets of hydraulic cylinder units to steer the strip.
