Abstract: A process for producing a metallic honeycomb body includes winding, laminating or intertwining at least one at least partly structured layer of sheet metal to form a matrix placed in a tubular jacket. At least the tubular jacket is elastically deformed by successively exerting a substantially linearly and radially inwardly directed force on the peripheral surface of the tubular jacket, as seen in circumferential direction of the tubular jacket. An apparatus for producing a metallic honeycomb body includes at least two mutually movable and variably spaced apart pressure elements for receiving the honeycomb body therebetween and bringing the two pressure elements to bear against the peripheral surface of the tubular jacket, to successively exert a substantially radially inwardly directed force on at least part of the periphery of the tubular jacket for elastically deforming at least the tubular jacket.

  • Patent number: 6745469
Abstract: A screen media (200) for use in screening pulp slurry has a first side (204) and a second side (206). The pulp slurry is fed from the first side of the screen media to the second side of said screen media through a plurality of screening passages (205). Each said screening passage include a contour cut (210) formed in the first side, a back groove (208) formed in the second side, and a residual thickness (234) between the contour cut and the back groove. • Patent number: 6742238
Abstract: A stator core extends along a longitudinal axis and includes a yoke, and a plurality of radially-inwardly projecting teeth separated by intervening slots. A radially innermost portion of each tooth initially includes a pair of legs separated by a recess disposed therebetween. The conventional tooth tips are unformed in the first stage, thereby defining an increased-size slot opening for allowing the insertion of stator windings. In a second processing stage, after the core itself has been manufactured and wound with stator windings, the legs are cold-formed in order to form tooth tips, which define a reduced-size slot opening to provide a magnetic flux path and provide a wire retention function. A higher stator slot fill is provided, which allows and enables higher generator efficiencies and output for a given package size.

  • Patent number: 6739049
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a gas turbine engine fan blade (10) comprises forming three metal workpieces (50,52,54). A metal slab (30) is upset forged at both ends (32,34) to produce a metal block (40) with increased thickness (42,44) extending from opposite surfaces (36,38). The metal block (40) is cut in an inclined path to form two of the metal workpieces (50,52). The metal workpieces (50,52,54) are assembled into a stack (56) so that the flat surfaces (38,42,46,48) are in mating abutment. Heat and pressure is applied across the thickness of the metal workpieces (50,52,54) to diffusion bond the metal workpieces (53,52,54) together to form an integral structure (100). The integral structure (100) is hot creep formed and superplastically formed to produce the required aerofoil shape and the thickened end is machined to form the blade root (26). The method enables thinner metallic workpieces with better microstructure to be used and increases the yield of metallic workpieces.

  • Patent number: 6735863
Abstract: A method is provided for forming enlarged cylinder bores in an engine based on a family of internal combustion engines having an original cylinder bore axis for each bore, wherein each cylinder bore is constrained against enlargement toward one side. The method includes providing an offset axis parallel to the original cylinder bore axis and spaced toward an opposite side of the cylinder bore by a dimension equal to one half of a predetermined bore diameter enlargement, and centering the enlarged cylinder bore on the offset axis. The method preserves a minimum wall thickness from the cylinders to camshaft bores between the cylinder banks while the outward enlargement dimension is preferably limited to a value which does not require changing the cylinder head bolt pattern or reduce the wall thickness below minimum values in other portions of the cylinders.

  • Patent number: 6732425
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for expanding the ends of a sleeve that has previously been installed into a defective section of inaccessibly located soft metal heat exchanger tubing. The sleeve ends are expanded using an apparatus of a plastic bladder connected to a series of connectable sections of sufficient length to reach the ends of the installed sleeve. The expansion is performed by locating the plastic bladder inside the sleeve at one end and hydraulically compressing the plastic bladder and forcing it to expand in diameter as a function of Poisson's ratio to thus expand the sleeve end into the tube.
