  • Patent number: 6681486
Abstract: A method of assembly a brush seal between two components having confronting adjacent surfaces, such as the stator and rotor of a gas turbine, comprises providing a slot in one of the components which slot opens through the confronting surface of that component to face the other component. A flexible brush seal element having a plurality of metallic bristles is pushed into the slot so that the free ends of the bristles project from said surface of the one component. The element is then held in position in the slot by means of an anchoring strip pushed into the slot so as to bear on a wall thereof and also on the brush seal element, the anchoring strip typically being of a malleable metal.

  • Patent number: 6678929
Abstract: A burnishing gear or burnishing die has a plurality of spiral gashes formed within each one of the burnishing gear teeth at a predetermined angle with respect to a transverse plane so as to define shearing edges along side involute portions of the burnishing gear teeth. The shearing edges enable enhanced finishing or burnishing operations to be performed upon workpiece gears in order to effectively remove positive imperfections, irregularities, nicks, or the like from the workpiece gear teeth so as to finish the workpiece gear in accordance with desired tolerances. The burnishing gear may be incorporated within burnishing gear systems utilizing burnishing gears characterized by different operating pressure angles as well as within burnishing gear systems that have mechanisms for reciprocating the workpiece gear during a gear burnishing operation.

  • Patent number: 6671957
Abstract: A method for manufacturing cooling devices for mounting on semiconductor devices. These cooling devices are made from several extruded shaped section part elements. These shaped section part elements are made from an aluminum alloy and have grooves and bead strips wherein these grooves and bead strips are fitted into each other by applying pressure in a transverse direction. The outward protruding groove walls of the shaped section elements or the bead strips are pushed into the corresponding grooves of neighboring shaped section elements. These groove walls or bead strips plastically deform by bending in so that each bead strip entering its associated groove is physically locked in place. In addition wires of high purity aluminum can be inserted into these grooves before the groove walls or the bead strips are compacted into their associated grooves. Through this method the connection points become liquid proof and the connection is securely formed in the perpendicular direction.

  • Patent number: 6651333
Abstract: An aluminum based header plate, for a tubular heat exchanger for a motor vehicle, has an external coating on its outer face. An end portion of each heat exchanger tube is received in a corresponding through hole in the header plate. The tube end portions have a predetermined cross section and an external coating, and secured to the header plate by brazing. Each through hole is made by a slitting operation followed by configuration of the through hole within a selected zone of the header plate, this zone being press-formed so as to form in the outer face of the header plate a collar portion in that zone. The internal transverse cross section of each collar portion is substantially identical to the predetermined cross section of the corresponding tube end portion. After the tube has been introduced into the through hole, which extends through the collar portion, there is surface contact between the respective external coatings of the collar portion and of the tube end portion.
