  • Patent number: 9635374
Abstract: A system and method for switching between multiple encoders or decoders may be implemented to quickly and seamlessly transfer coding operations between two encoders. Before switching from a first encoder to a second encoder, the second encoder is initialized and updated with a copy of the necessary information from the first encoder. Similarly when switching from a first decoder to a second decoder, the second decoder is initialized and the necessary information from the first decoder is passed to the second decoder. A controller may monitor the system to identify a condition that would trigger an encoder switch and identify the encoder that best suits the system conditions. A shared memory unit accessible by either encoder may store the initialization information. A shared decode unit accessible by either encoder may transmit decoded frames between encoders.

  • Patent number: 9628789
Abstract: A video coder can determine a first most probable intra prediction mode and a second most probable intra prediction mode for a current video block, and based on the first and second most probable intra prediction modes, determine an estimate of an actual intra prediction mode used to code the current video block. The estimate of the actual intra prediction mode can be determined by selecting one of the first most probable mode and the second most probable mode as the estimate of the actual intra prediction in response to both the first most probable mode and the second most probable mode being different angular prediction modes. The estimate of the actual intra prediction mode plus difference information can be used to identify the actual intra prediction mode used to code the current video block.

  • Patent number: 9609181
Abstract: An image signal processing apparatus and image signal processing method obtains a high super-resolution effect for distorted images captured by a specialized optical system, such as a 360-degree camera. A distortion-correction conversion-formula calculation section calculates a distortion correction conversion formula for correcting the nonlinear distortion. A distortion correction and interpolation processing section performs distortion correction and interpolation processing on each cropped region. An alignment conversion formula calculation section calculates an alignment conversion formula for alignment between each cropped image after distortion correction and interpolation processing is completed. A pixel coordinate conversion section rearranges pixel coordinates for each frame image before interpolation processing by using the distortion correction conversion formula and the alignment conversion formula corresponding to the cropped regions. An image synthesis section synthesizes the cropped images.

  • Patent number: 9609346
Abstract: A method and apparatus for deriving a temporal motion vector predictor (MVP) are disclosed. The MVP is derived for a current block of a current picture in Inter, or Merge, or Skip mode based on co-located reference blocks of a co-located block and a flag is used to indicate the co-located picture. More than one co-located reference blocks can be used to derive the temporal MVP and the co-located reference blocks can be selected from the co-located block as well as neighboring blocks of the co-located block. A search set comprises search motion vectors associated with the co-located reference block(s) is formed. The search motion vector (MV) corresponding to the co-located reference block in the same reference list is searched before the search MV in a different reference list. Various schemes to accommodate implicit method of deriving co-located picture are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9609305
Abstract: Depth information can be used to assist with image processing functionality, such as various calibration approaches to determine and correct for misalignments between cameras. In at least some embodiments, depth information obtained from stereo imaging or distance sensing, for example, can be used to segment an image or frame of video into at least a foreground object and a background object. Once the foreground and background object has been determined, information about that objects can be used to determine a mapping, and once a subsequent stereoscopic image is captured using the cameras, the mapping can be applied to each image to account for misalignment effects due to a misaligned stereo camera pair before providing the stereoscopic image for display.

  • Patent number: 9601309
Abstract: Generally, the present disclosure provides a method and system for improving imaging efficiency for CPB systems while maintaining or improving imaging accuracy over prior CPB systems. A large field of view image of a sample is acquired at a low resolution and thus, at high speed. The low resolution level is selected to be sufficient for an operator to visually identify structures or areas of interest on the low resolution image. The operator can select one or more small areas of arbitrary shape and size on the low resolution image, referred to as an exact region of interest (XROI). The outline of the XROI is mapped to an x-y coordinate system of the image, and the CPB system is then controlled to acquire a high resolution image of only the XROI identified on the low resolution image. For 3D imaging, once the XROI is identified, each section of the sample can be iteratively imaged in the previously described manner, with the operator having the option to redefine the XROI later.

  • Patent number: 9602780
Abstract: In a defect inspecting apparatus, the strength of a fatal defect signal decreases due to miniaturization. Thus, in order to assure a high SN ratio, it is necessary to reduce noises caused by scattered light from a wafer. Roughness of a pattern edge and surface roughness which serve as a scattered-light source are spread over the entire wafer. The present invention has discovered the fact that reduction of an illuminated area is a technique effective for decreasing noises. That is to say, the present invention has discovered the fact that creation of an illuminated area having a spot shape and reduction of the dimension of a spot beam are effective. A plurality of temporally and spatially divided spot beams are radiated to the wafer serving as a sample.

  • Patent number: 9602833
Abstract: A method and apparatus for deriving a motion vector predictor (MVP) for a motion vector (MV) of a current block of a current picture in Inter, or Merge, or Skip mode. The method selects a co-located block corresponding to a co-located picture and receives one or more reference motion vectors (MVs) of one or more co-located reference blocks associated with the co-located block. The method also determines a search set and determines a search order for the search set, if the search MV corresponding to the given reference list is not available, the search order then searches the search MV corresponding to a reference list different from the given reference list. Finally, the method determines the MVP for the current block based on the search set and the search order and provides the MVP for the current block.

  • Patent number: 9596415
Abstract: A control apparatus, an imaging system, a control method, and a program in which, when performing automatic image-recording, subjects which seem to be present around an imaging apparatus can be recorded as evenly as possible. An automatic recording operation for recording, upon detection of a subject from an image obtained by imaging, data representing an image containing the subject is performed. On that basis, if it is determined, on the basis of image-recording history information, that the transition to a subject configuration different from that used in the last image-recording is to be performed, a movable mechanism unit is moved to change an imaging field-of-view range, thereby obtaining a different subject configuration.

  • Patent number: 9591302
Abstract: Innovations in use of chroma quantization parameter (“QP”) offsets when determining a control parameter for deblock filtering. For example, as part of encoding, an encoder sets a picture-level chroma QP offset and slice-level chroma QP offset for encoding of a slice of a picture. The encoder also performs deblock filtering of at least part of the slice, where derivation of a control parameter considers only the picture-level chroma QP offset. The encoder outputs at least part of a bitstream including the encoded content. As part of decoding, a corresponding decoder sets a picture-level chroma QP offset and a slice-level chroma QP offset for decoding of a slice of a picture, but derivation of a control parameter for deblock filtering considers only the picture-level chroma QP offset.
