  • Patent number: 9584822
Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) video codec encodes multiple views of a 3D video, each including texture and depth components. The encoders of the codec encode video blocks of their respective views based on a set of prediction parameters, such as quad-tree split flags, prediction modes, partition sizes, motion fields, inter directions, reference indices, luma intra modes, and chroma intra modes. The prediction parameters may be inherited across different views and different ones of the texture and depth components.

  • Patent number: 9584770
Abstract: A method is provided for the real-time determination of signals to be summed from signals representative of an image portion which are respectively received from detectors belonging to the same optical sensor, the detectors being organized in a matrix formed by rows and columns, the signals to be summed being received on the same column. The method also determines the time during which the detectors must acquire the signals to be summed. The method determines a value representative of a modulation transfer function of at least one lens and/or at least one mirror placed upstream of the optical sensor, and a signal-to-noise ratio of the image portion, based on a location of one of the detectors and on a signal representative of an image portion obtained from the detectors. This representative value is dependent on the number. The method searches for the number and the time maximizing the representative value.

  • Patent number: 9565440
Abstract: A video processing device includes a rate control module to determine more accurate initial quantization parameters at each scene switching point and to adjust the QP parameters in response to scene changes using a sum of variances metric and an estimated picture encoding cost metric from a coding complex estimation block. To determine a first quantization parameter set, a sum of variances metric and an estimated picture encoding cost metric for an initial set pictures of a video stream are used. A bit allocation module is to set a target bit allocation for infra-encoded pictures as substantially proportional to the sum of variances metric and substantially inversely proportional to the estimated picture encoding cost metric, and set a target bit allocation for forward predictive and bi-predictive pictures as substantially proportional to the estimated picture encoding cost metric and substantially inversely proportional to the sum of variances metric.

  • Patent number: 9525890
Abstract: A decoding method for an audio video coding standard (AVS) system is provided. According to a stop-fetching criterion, a stop-fetching flag is set to an enabled status or a disabled status. In an offset fetching procedure, it is determined whether an offset value is smaller than a threshold and whether the stop-fetching is in the disabled status. When a determination result is affirmative, one subsequent bit is fetched for the offset value, an offset shift value is correspondingly increased, and the determination step is iterated. When the determination result is negative, the offset fetching procedure is terminated. Next, it is determined whether a decoding result is a least probable symbol (LPS) or a most probable symbol (MPS).

  • Patent number: 9521394
Abstract: A method of decoding closed caption disparity data, involves a TV receiver receiving closed caption disparity data for a 3D display encoded as a sequence of frame interval/slope change pairs, with the frame interval representing a designated number of frames over which each linear function representing disparity is to be applied paired with a value indicating a change in slope from the slope of a preceding segment. A first segment in the sequence presumes a predetermined slope as a reference. A sequence of caption data packets specifies a closed caption display window containing closed caption text. The disparity value is used in each frame to determine a horizontal offset of left and right eye views of the CC display that establishes the closed caption display window's perceived z-axis position. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.
