  • Patent number: 6575389
Abstract: An apparatus for destroying articles that has a cutter rotatably mounted adjacent a feed opening of a chamber containing articles to be destroyed. A ram is mounted in the chamber and is movable in a first direction toward the cutter. A plate forms the bottom surface of the chamber, and the plate has a plurality of grooves extending in the first direction. A wiper is mounted on the front of the ram, and the wiper has a plurality of teeth located in respective grooves in the plate. Thus, the plurality of teeth in the grooves prevent articles from sliding beneath the ram as it pushes articles into the cutter. In another embodiment, a segmented wiper is mounted on a first side wall, the segmented wiper has a length extending across an irregular upper surface of the ram, the segmented wiper further has a plurality of independently movable wiper teeth that are in substantially continuous contact with the irregular upper surface of the ram.

  • Patent number: 6572037
Abstract: A shredder for shredding metal shavings, chips and the like includes a housing (10) containing a shredder assembly having first and second roller motor-operated shafts (40,42) carrying spaced knives (50) for shredding metal. A sensor (66,68) on at least one shaft (40,42) senses a change in rotation of the shaft, indicative of a jammed condition. A microprocessor (70) responds to the sensor to open an ejection door (20) normally closing an ejection outlet (16) and to reverse rotation of the shaft (42) to dislodge the jamming object. When the jamming object is dislodged, the microprocessor halts rotation of one shaft (40) to permit the knives on the reverse rotating shaft (42) to carry the jamming object toward the open ejection outlet (16). After the object has been ejected, the microprocessor (70) returns the shafts (40,42) to their normal operation to continue shredding metal.

  • Patent number: 6565022
Abstract: An apparatus for and method of recycling the edge portion of a chopped strand mat are disclosed. The method includes the steps of trimming an edge portion of the chopped strand mat, transporting the edge portion to a shredder assembly, and shredding the edge portion into individual strands or filaments. The separated strands are introduced with new chopped strands into the chopped strand mat forming process. The apparatus for recycling the edge portion of the mat includes a shredder assembly for separating the edge portion into individual strands. The shredder assembly includes two pairs of rollers that engage the trimmed edge portion. The first and second pairs of rollers are driven at first and second rotational speeds, respectively. Preferably, the second speed is greater than the first speed. The mat is pinched between each pair of rollers and is thereby placed under tension due to the different rotational speeds.

  • Patent number: 6543710
Abstract: Fluidized-bed opposed jet mills, configured as separator mills, and provided with easy accessibility so that the interior space can be easily cleaned with little effort. The separator wheel is formed together with the bearing unit and the actuator unit as one component, which is detachably attached to the grinding container and can be moved relative to the grinding container by kinematic devices in such a manner that the separator wheel can be removed from the grinding container upward through the discharge outlet for finely ground material, while the discharge device for the finely ground material remains connected to the grinding container. In this manner, the separator mill can be easily assembled and disassembled by the user and the separator mill becomes easily accessible for thorough cleaning. This is particularly advantageous when the material to be ground is changed frequently, as is the case in the pharmaceutical and chemical fields.

  • Patent number: 6533199
Abstract: A one-way pepper grinding tool includes an one-way member, and a grinding assembly having an inner and an outer grinding part. The one-way member has a main body turnably received in a housing. The main body has several curved slots around a central round hole. The curved slots each has an engaging end portion in open communication with the central round hole for permitting an engaging block movably received in the slot to separably engage a ring fitted in the central round hole; the engaging blocks being biased to the engaging end portions by springs to force the ring to turn together with the main body when the main body turns in a first direction, making the inner grinding part associated with the ring turn to grind pepper. When the main body turns in an opposite direction, the engaging blocks are moved away from the ring, not able to make the ring turn, i.e. the inner grinding part will not turn relative to the outer grinding part.
