  • Patent number: 4945791
Abstract: A tool used for applying specified torque to the backshells of electrical connectors has a cylindrical body of diameter compatible with that of the backshell on which it is used with a cutout on said cylindrical body to allow wires from the connector to be routed away from the tool. A high friction material such as silicone rubber or similar type substance is bonded to the inner lower lip of the tool, below the cutout section, and a clamping means with separable closure and adjustable friction producing strap is bonded to the outer lower lip of the tool across its rear surface and over the front of said cutout. A fitting at the top of the tool is located on the tool's axis and is designed to accept conventional socket torque wrenches.

  • Patent number: 4945793
Abstract: A tool coupling for connecting a tool head to a tool holder to secure the tool head against rotation and provide axial prestress. The tool head, which serves as a cutting tool, includes a shank having at least a portion which is conically configured, a threaded bore, and an annular contact collar. The tool holder includes a sleeve-shaped receiving bore corresponding to the shank, at least a portion of the receiving bore being conically configured, a tightening screw, and an annular contact face. An additional bore in the shank of the tool head ensures a prestress between the shank and the tool carrier including the receiving bore, and such prestress is not entirely relieved even if lateral forces act on the tool head. This keeps the tool head from vibrating in the receiving bore.

  • Patent number: 4942793
Abstract: An apparatus for removing a feedthrough connector mounted in an internally-threaded access opening in a wall of a pressurized vessel includes an elongated hollow sleeve defining a chamber and having upper and lower opposite open ends. A flange mounting an O-ring is fixed on the lower open end of the sleeve for sealably attaching the sleeve to the vessel wall about the access opening thereof and the connector mounted therein. A cap is sealably mounted to the upper open end of the sleeve for closing the same, but is removable for opening the upper sleeve open end. A tool shaft extends through the cap and is vertically reciprocally movable relative to the cap and through the sleeve chamber between upper and lower sleeve ends. The shaft is operable for engaging the connector, unthreading the same from the wall access opening and lifting the connector to the upper sleeve end. Removal of the cap will remove the shaft and connector engaged therewith from the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4939966
Abstract: An arrangement for mounting a power-operated clamping device for workpieces or tools on a hollow machine-tool spindle in which is disposed a securing rod that is adapted to be coupled with a drive member of the respectively mounted clamping device, and that is adapted to be actuated by a hydraulic or pressurized cylinder secured to the rear end of the spindle. Secured to a flange on the front end of the spindle is an intermediate ring to which the body of the clamping device is adapted to be secured via at least two securing pins. To provide a structurally straightforward design that requires no additional pressure medium cylinder, the securing pins are secured to the clamping device body and are axially oriented, with each securing pin being provided with a notch that has a tightening surface. Key rods are displaceably guided in the intermediate ring, with each key rod having a key that is introducible into a respective notch of the securing pins.

  • Patent number: 4939962
Abstract: In connection with machine tools it is frequently necessary to directly couple the motion sequence of a tool carrier and thus of the tool carried by the tool carrier, to the r.p.m. of a work piece, in order to perform certain motion sequences for each revolution of the work piece. In connection with machine tools in which the r.p.m. of the work piece depends on the work piece diameter, for example, in underfloor wheel set turning machines or turning machines, the r.p.m. is not known. Additionally, the unknown r.p.m. changes during the work piece machining. In order to achieve a synchronization in spite of the changing unknown r.p.m., the time necessary for performing one revolution of the work piece is measured and the time measurement is converted into a control signal for influencing the motion of the movable member such as the tool carrier in such a way that the motion of the tool carrier is influenced as a function of the measured time duration.

  • Patent number: 4938641
Abstract: A parting tool is provided having a tool shank and an interchangeable blade support connected thereto. The blade support is equipped with a blade attachment of blade. The blade support makes contact along one side thereof with a broad-side of the tool shank. The blade support has narrow sides which are guided, at least on sections, by two guide surfaces of the tool shank typically disposed on flanges. Flat contact surfaces on said flanges perpendicularly disposed in relation to the broad side of the tool shank butt against two corresponding counter guide surfaces on said blade support and are pressed against each other by clamping means such as longitudinally off-set screws. In comparison with earlier parting tools used for the same applications, the parting tools of the invention can be made smaller in overall height and provide extremely stable connection between the blade support and the tool shank, thereby greatly reducing rattling and vibrations during normal cutting operations.

  • Patent number: 4934221
Abstract: A tool set includes a T-shaped handle, a connector unit having a truncately conical cavity, a screw tap and a screwdriver piece. A socket having a truncately conical end is secured to the handle and has a hexagonal cavity formed in the end surface thereof, and an annular groove formed in the inner surface of the socket. A retaining ring is received within the groove. Both the connector unit and the screwdriver piece have a hexagonal cross-sectioned plug which has circumferentially concaved portions. By matching the truncately conical cavity of the connector unit with the truncately conical end of the socket, and by engaging the hexagonal cavity of the handle with the plug in such a manner that the retaining ring snaps into the concaved portions of the plug, the assembly of the handle, the connector unit and the tap can form a T-handle-type tapping tool, or the assembly of the handle and the screwdriver piece can form a T-handle-type screwdriver.

  • Patent number: 4934879
Abstract: In a cutting tool having a cutting element, the rake angle in the region following the land is approximately 35.degree. and decreases with increasing distance from the land. Beginning at a distance from the land corresponding approximately to the width of the land, a plurality of chip ridges project from the cutting face in the region between the cutting point regions to form a rake angle of about one-half the rake angle of the cutting face and whose frontal face on the side of the cutting edge projects to about the level of the land. The cutting face regions following the cutting face regions disposed between the chip ridges when seen in the chip discharge direction are configured as ramp elevations and are provided with run-up ramps ascending from the cutting face.

  • Patent number: 4922770
Abstract: A self-locking pliers provides automatic jaw adjustment for gripping objects of different sizes. First and second pinsers-defining members each have a body portion, a jaw-defining portion and a handle portion, being joined by a bolt extending through a slot in one of the members in pivotal, mutually moveable relationship. The slot permits pivoting as well as sliding movement of the first member relative to the second member, and has along a jaw-proximate side teeth to be engaged by corresponding teeth of a locking pawl carried rotatably within the slot by a shank of the bolt. A jaw-remote side of the slotted opening provides a smooth surface for sliding engagement of a smooth reaction surface of the locking pawl opposite from its teeth. The locking pawl has on its jaw-proximate side a camming surface proximate to the locking teeth. A control arm is pivotally engaged at one end to the body portion of the second member.

  • Patent number: 4920836
Abstract: This invention relates to an impulse wrench which has two blades but generates only one impact pulse on the main shaft per one rotation of a liner. In this invention, a liner has at least four seals and a main shaft has at least two seals. And the shape of both or one of the two seals out of at least two seals of main shaft is other than a linear shape parallel to the axial center. If both of said two seals of main shaft are in said shape, two of at least four seals of liner are in the same shape. The other seals of liner are in a linear shape parallel to the axial center. If one of said two seals of main shaft is in said shape, one of at least four seals of liner is in the same shape as this. All of the other seals of liner are in a linear shape parallel to the axial center. In this way, said two seals of liner and said two seals of main shaft coincide with each other only once per one rotation of the liner.
