  • Patent number: 4984489
Abstract: An accessory for a hand drill which cooperates with the crank handle of the opening mechanism of a casement window. The accessory, when turned by the drill, facilitates turning of the crank handle and opening or closing of the window. The accessory includes a shaft which is intended to be gripped by the chuck or jaws of the hand drill in much the same manner that hand drills grip drill bits. A forwardly projecting crank handle-contacting head is provided which is adapted to slide over the crank handle. The head has a side opening with a pair of edges which push against one side of the crank handle in order to rotate the same. Preferably, the inside surface of the head of the accessory and the crank handle's contacting edges are rubber coated so that rotation of the accessory and its movement with respect to the crank handle will not mar the finish of the crank handle.

  • Patent number: 4982634
Abstract: The conventional multiple-spindle automatic lathes are expensive on account of their complicated construction, and the production output and production possibilities are limited on account of the restricted number of work spindles utilized. The novel automatic lathe is to offer higher production outputs and more universal manufacturing possibilities with a simpler construction. The basic structure of an automatic lathe with eight tool spindles (10) for the manufacture of workpieces in eight successive machining stations resides in that, additionally to the number of basic tool stations (1 through 8), each basic tool station, except for the first, is once more included as an additional tool station (2 through 8) arranged in the same sequence of machining upstream of the basic tool stations (1 through 8) so that the total number of machining stations amounts to N=2n-1, a loading and unloading station being provided at the tool station (1).

  • Patent number: 4983078
Abstract: The inner peripheral portion of the blade material is made thinner than the outer peripheral portion thereof. This serves to make greater, as compared with conventional cutter bodies, the distance between the adjacent portions of the cutter body where the respective inner peripheral portions of the blade material are adapted to rest, thus enabling the rigidity of the cutting tool itself to be improved. On top of this, the rake face of the blade material can be reground, when necessary, until the material is completely used up and worn away, thus making it possible to make full and efficient use of the blade material without any waste.

  • Patent number: 4981056
Abstract: The process for securing a machine tool bed to a base includes the steps of providing a base having a horizontally disposed first surface wherein a plurality of cooperating grooves are disposed. A selected quantity of hardenable grout material is deposited into the grooves. A bed has a second surface from which a plurality of tongues extend, and each tongue has side surfaces which are relatively rougher than the associated distal surface. The bed is horizontally positioned above the base so that each tongue is received in an associated groove and each distal surface is spaced from the associated underlying groove, thereby causing the grout material to rise by an amount insufficient to contact the second surface. The bed is maintained spaced above the base until the grout material has hardened and thereby binds each side surface but not the associated distal surface to the base.

  • Patent number: 4976176
Abstract: The present invention relates to a module for use with a portable lathe to machine an area of a pipe wherein a cutting tool is supported such that the orientation of its axial path of travel varies as the tool rotates around the pipe. The module feeds a cutting tool along an axial feed path that extends substantially parallel to a line connecting spaced apart reference points located on opposite sides of the area of the pipe to be machined. The orientation of this reference line varies with respect to the longitudinal axis of the pipe as the module is driven around the axis of the pipe. The mechanism to feed the cutting tool along its axial and rotational cutting paths has first and second drive shafts extending substantially perpendicular to each other. The mechanism is simplified by having a first tool support member pivotally attached to the portable lathe so as to pivot about an axis coincident with the axis of rotation of the first drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4964763
Abstract: For machining operations employing cutter heads, use is made of wear-resistant cutting materials, and the cutter heads are operated at constantly increasing cutting speeds and, for coarse machining operations, with high cutting forces. This requires on the one hand a highly reliable mounting of the individual cutter blades or cutter blade carriers, respectively, and on the other hand the possibility of axially and radially adjusting the cutter elements in the micrometer range for the compensation of wear. The invention provides a cutter head provided with cutter blade carriers (8) having an axial guide stem (9) and a cutter blade mounting portion (10), the guide stem (9) being received in an eccentric bushing (17) acting as a radial adjustment bushing, and coupled therewith for axial adjustment. The eccentric bushing (17) is retained in the main body (2) of the cutter head (1) at an axially fixed position for rotation in the circumferential direction.

  • Patent number: 4964319
Abstract: A socket wrench device is used to rotate a spark plug. The device includes a socket member with a socket to fit the spark plug. An endless series of ratchet teeth are provided on the socket member so as to engage with another endless series of ratchet teeth which are provided on a driving member. The driving member is retained on the socket member in such a manner that the ratchet teeth of the driving member are engaged removably with those of the socket member. An annular spring element is sleeved on the driving member so as to bias the two series of ratchet teeth to join together. When the device rotates the spark plug to an appropriate position in the cylinder of an internal combustion engine, an external torque which is applied to the device compresses the spring element, so that the ratchet teeth of the driving member are disengaged from those of the driving member, thereby stopping the rotation of the spark plug relative to the cylinder.
