  • Patent number: 5119702
Abstract: A brake lathe for drum and disc rotor brakes for grinding the inside cylindrical surface of a brake drum and machining the opposite parallel surfaces of a disc rotor. The lathe includes rotating spindle output shaft extending along an axis of the lathe housing. The spindle is driven by a motor which translates an endless belt over a V-belt pulley. A pair of cog belts respectively connect an intermediate pulley to the V-belt pulley and a taper lock bushing mounted on the spindle shaft. This arrangement reduces the motor speed to the desired spindle output speed and eliminates the need for an idler shaft. A first cross-feed slide is mounted in a direction transverse to the axis of the brake housing on a first side thereof for advancing the inboard and outboard cutters toward and away from the opposite parallel surfaces of a disc rotor concentrically mounted on the output shaft.

  • Patent number: 5120265
Abstract: This invention increases the yield of output shrimp meat produced by roller type peeler apparatus, and achieves this without any substantial decreases in throughout quantity. The yield increase is achieved by means of critical interacting operating relationships in the peeling action between power rollers, intermediate rollers and insert rollers, expressed in terms of relative roller diameters. Preferred sets of rollers are identified that significantly increase the yields of cold water Pandalus species of shrimp in sizes of 90/kg to 350/kg over conventional commercial rollers. Surprisingly, the high throughput quantity of the peelers is not seriously compromised and may be even increased by the ability to provide more peeling channels in a conventional size peeling tray by replacement with smaller diameter power rollers. The preferred roller sets for use in current standard commercial equipment, without other changes, has lower power rollers of 2.5 inch (6.

  • Patent number: 5115699
Abstract: A continuous drive ratchet tool apparatus is comprised of drive disks adapted to be connected in driving engagement with a bolt head or nut threaded fastener, a disk housing having an opening extending through the housing and a bearing channel communicating with the opening, one of the drive disks being rotatably received in the opening, and a ball bearing spring biased into engagement between the disk housing opening and the one drive disk. The bearing selectively establishes a continuous driving engagement between the disk housing and the drive disk for rotating a threaded fastener in a first direction by connecting the drive disk to the fastener and rotating the disk housing in the first direction. The bearing then permits the housing to override its connection to the threaded fastener allowing the fastener to remain stationary when the disk housing is rotated in a second direction opposite to the first.

  • Patent number: 5116391
Abstract: A polishing apparatus in which one of two workpieces to be polished or abraded which contact each other at respective arcuate or spherical surfaces, is placed on a fixed base and turned or fixed in a horizontal plane with the other workpiece held under pressure by a retainer provided on a gate type frame which can be swung around the center of curvature of the contact surfaces of the two workpieces by a swinging unit capable of varying the range of swinging movement of the gate-type frame. The center of the swinging movement of this frame can be varied by changing the position of two pivot-connected block units vertically in a stepless manner and the position of the retainer to a reference axis can be varied. This enables the apparatus to be applied to workpieces having arbitrary curved surfaces to be polished and of different dimensions.

  • Patent number: 5115700
Abstract: A strap wrench made up of a semi-rigid, form retaining, planar strip wrap around. This wrap around is formed into a shape retaining loop, the opening of the loop being readily adjustable. Because of the semi-rigid, form retaining characteristics of the wrap around strip, the loop will retain its shape and size as it is moved about and positioned over an object to be rotated. A simple squeeze of the strip will conform the size of the loop to the outer diameter of the object to be rotated. A flexible pull cord is attached to the fore end of the semi-rigid, form retaining strip and wrapped about the strip prior to or as the strip is placed about the object to be rotated. A simple straight line pull on the flexible cord exerts a force which acts along a line which is tangent to the object to be rotated and which acts at a distance removed from the axis of that object.

  • Patent number: 5113730
Abstract: A bar stock guide arrangement for screw machines having a rotatably mounted fitting which has a horizontal opening for loosely passing the bar stock and guide rollers in the fitting at circumferentially spaced locations around the bar stock. The guide rollers are on roller supports which are selectively adjustable radially of the fitting to accommodate different bar stock diameters. Weights are slidably received in the fitting between the roller holders, and centrifugal force on the weights produces inward force on the roller holders to hold the guide rollers against the bar stock. Each fitting has a central hub slidably received, on and detachable from, a corresponding tube on a rigid cross plate which supports the fitting.

  • Patent number: 5109738
Abstract: A handheld screw driving gun (1) has a handle (17) extending essentially perpendicularly relative to the motor axis (3--3) and a screwing axis (6--6) which is off-set below the motor axis. The handle is connected approximately at the center of gravity of the screw gun (1). A screwing bit (5) is also off-set from the motor axis (3--3) and is rotatably supported in a guide head (7) between the motor axis (3--3) and the handle (17). In this arrangement, the index finger of an operator's hand on the handle approximately aligns with the axis of the screwing bit (5) so as to assure a screwing direction perpendicularly to a work surface without applying any tilting forces to a screw. The arrangement of the drive motor behind the handle and the screwing unit in front of the handle provides a balance that reduces fatigue while holding and operating the screw gun with one hand.

  • Patent number: 5103697
Abstract: A adjustable open end type wrench having a solid jaw guide that prevents slippage of the movable jaw and relative movement between the jaws thereby virtually eliminating the tendency of such wrenches to loosen under load. The arrangement of this invention replaces the usual worn gear with a wedge and an arrangement that joins the jaw and the wedge through a tension member that passes through or straddles the jaw guide. The jaw guide extends in a direction generally perpendicular to the gripping surfaces of the jaws. The action of the jaw on the wedge pulls the wedge toward the guide and places the guide in compression. Compression on the guide increases the clamping action of the jaw and the wedge and keeps the jaw in place. A relatively simple wedge arrangement will provide the necessary clamping action. Consequently, this invention provides a simple adjustable wrench design wherein slippage of the wedge and consequent loosing of the wrench is essentially eliminated.
