  • Patent number: 5064400
Abstract: A shrimp grading mechanism is provided which incorporates a shrimp conveyer and orienter for conveying shrimp oriented in head-up, body-down position along a linear path. The conveyor incorporates a plurality of pan segments which collectively form a movable trough having a slot at the bottom portion thereof. Shrimp smaller than a preselected size range will fall through the slot while shrimp of the preselected size range will be gripped at the juncture of the heads and body and supported by the opposed pan segments of the conveyor. The conveyor pans engage the shrimp in a pivot-like manner thereby permitting the heavier body portions of the shrimp to pivot downwardly such that each of the shrimp is positioned in head-up, body-down relation while being conveyed to the end of the conveyor. Several shrimp grading machines may be placed in cascading relation with succeeding machines being adjusted for smaller size ranges of shrimp falling from the conveyor of the immediately preceding shrimp grading machine.

  • Patent number: 5064403
Abstract: Apparatus for removing meat from the drumsticks of poultry, such as turkeys and chickens, utilizes aligned, tandem cylinders, the first of which urges the second along a guided path, the second carrying a centering cone pusher thereon for receiving the meat end of the drumstick axially thereinto. Transversely moving gates engage the drumstick about the hock knuckle end and the centering cone, upon moving forward under the force exerted by the first cylinder against the second cylinder, pushes the hock knuckle end through and past the closed gates. This places extreme tension on the tendons between the gates and where they are attached to the hock knuckle, causing the tendons to break while the meat is formed into a gatered mass in and adjacent the centering cone. The gates are withdrawn and the second cylinder is activated, causing a rod to project axially through the meat mass and against the meat end of the bone, urging the bone through a guide passageway and normally expelling it from the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5064317
Abstract: Mass produced tools particularly useful for forming parts on screw machines and turret lathes. A plurality of identical tool blanks are stacked one upon another in a holder and are located and clamped in positions corresponding to the distance generated by their height and front relief angle thus permitting surfaces of a form to be mass produced upon the blanks while keeping the blanks interchangeable. The blanks are individually finished with required angles, radii, and side relief. These mass produced tools increase the availability and decrease the cost of form tools produced one at a time by previous methods. In addition, since they are identical, these tools are quickly changed in service without resetting or regrinding thus reducing production machine down time.

  • Patent number: 5062820
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically processing an animal carcass (8). Suspension means (122, 123) suspends the carcass (8) in an inverted position with the spine inclined upwardly towards the neck (11) with the spine located beneath the carcass (8) and so that the diaphragm (119) is approximately vertical. A cutting assembly (130) moves into the abdominal cavity adjacent to the diaphragm (119), and a cutting means (28) cuts the diaphragm (119) around the periphery. A brisket shearing means (21) cuts the brisket (20) with a shearing action along the brisket (20) from the abdomen and towards the neck end of the brisket (20). The reaction member (188) is pivotally movable relative to the brisket (20) about a rear end to generally follow the contours of the brisket (20).

  • Patent number: 5058465
Abstract: A device for holding a lock key firmly while inserting the key in a lock on a building, automobile, filing cabinet or other. The purpose of the tool is to impart torque simultaneous with a rocking motion to the key. This causes marks to be made on the key by the lock pins or wafers and shows the locksmith where to file the key to make it open the lock. This procedure is well known to those in the locksmith's trade, and is called impressioning.

  • Patent number: 5059152
Abstract: The present invention provides an animal carcass injection system that is particularly suitable for injecting carbon dioxide between muscle and bone within an animal carcass to balloon the muscle away from the bone. Such ballooning aids in boning the animal carcass. In accordance with the present invention, a hollow needle is provided having a pointed distal end to puncture the animal carcass and at least one, but preferably four, circumferentially spaced apertures to allow the pressurized gas to escape from the needle upon blockage of the pointed distal end. The aperture(s) act to prevent possible injury arising from an accidental escape of pressurized gas from the pointed distal end of the needle near or against operators of the injection system. The use of four apertures act to more efficiently distribute gas within the animal carcass upon injection of the pressurized gas.

  • Patent number: 5056386
Abstract: The improved screwdriver bit and finder system of the present invention substantially aligns the axis of a screwdriver bit with the axis of a slotted-head fastener and maintains the alignment while the fastener is being driven. The inside diameter of a cylindrical finder and the diameter of a cylindrical driver portion and blade formed on an end of the bit are substantially matched in four different systems, with four discrete ranges of fastener head diameters. These matched systems of the present invention minimize the problems generated by conventional "one size fits all" bit and finders, namely, bit "wobble" in the finder and misalignment of the bit axis with the fastener axis, resulting in damaged bits and fasteners. In contrast, the axial alignment produced by the bit and finder system of the present invention minimizes the amount of driving force required and saves bits and fasteners from damage.

  • Patent number: 5054967
Abstract: A throw away cutting tool comprising a holder formed with a wedge groove and a throw away insert having a cutting edge at one end thereof and a wedge portion at the other end, the wedge portion being adapted to be clamped in the wedge groove by elasticity of the material of the holder. The holder is at least partly made of cemented carbide for higher rigidity and cutting stability. Also, the radius of curvature at the deep end of the wedge groove is optimized for crack resistance. Further, the angle of the V-ridge on the holder is interrelated to the angle of the V-groove in the insert for more holding stability and crack resistance.

  • Patent number: 5054340
Abstract: An apparatus which moves a tool back and forth in synchronism with rotation of a workpiece with respect to the workpiece to machine the workpiece into a non-circular shape. The tool is attached to a tool mount placed on a tool mount table which is connected to be moved in a direction perpendicular to the axis of a spindle by a motor. The tool is connected to be moved in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the spindle with respect to the tool mount by a high speed actuator. Profile generating movement of the tool is thus provided by a combination of movement provided by the motor and movement provided by the high speed actuator. The high speed actuator is controlled in accordance with high frequency components included in profile data while the motor is driven in accordance with low frequency components included in the profile data. As a result, the responsiveness in profile generating movement of the tool is improved, and high speed machining of a non-circular workpiece is enabled.

  • Patent number: 5048380
Abstract: An adjustable wrench has a stationary jaw formed at an end of a handle. A slidable jaw is mounted for linear reciprocal movement toward and away from the stationary jaw by a worm gear in mesh with a gear rack on the slidable jaw. An axially movable shaft extends through the worm gear. The worm gear is rotatably mounted on the shaft, and restrained against axial movement relative thereto. An inner end of the shaft is slidably received in a recess in the handle, and a coil spring in the recess outwardly biases the shaft. A lever has a first end pivotally mounted to an outer end of the shaft and an intermediate portion pivotally secured to the handle. The slidable jaw may be moved by rotation of the worm gear to a loosely adjusted position and may be firmly tightened into engagmeent with the head of a fastener by manipulation of the pivotal lever. The wrench allows extremely quick engagement and release with the head portions of various fasteners.
