  • Patent number: 5085612
Abstract: Apparatus for transporting sausages, which are filled in a continuous sausage casing, by suspending said sausages in the form of loops from reception hooks. The reception hooks are connected to an endless, driven conveyor belt in spaced relationship with one another, the conveyor belt circulating round two deflection wheels with the hooks being loaded with the sausage loops in the area of a first leg of the conveyor belt (transport leg) and returning without any load in the area of a second leg (free leg). To allow adjustment of the spacing between the hooks depending on the size and the nature of the chain of sausages, the hooks are positively connected to the conveyor belt in the transport leg and are frictionally connected to the conveyor belt in the free leg.

  • Patent number: 5083484
Abstract: The present invention relates to a clamping device for clamping a mandrel to an elbow or pipe as well as to a torque-reacting device between a power unit housing and the mandrel. The torque reacting device has a pair of torque reacting keys mounted in a non-rotatable portion of the power unit housing, each of the keys having an end portion with converging opposite sides. The end portions of the torque reacting keys extend into correspondingly shaped, axially extending grooves formed in opposite sides of the mandrel. The opposite sides of the grooves are outwardly diverging and define an included angle approximately equal to the angle between the converging sides of the torque reacting keys. Adjusting screws are provided for each of the torque reacting keys. The clamping device has a plurality of clamping pins, each pin having a generally cylindrical shape with a hemispherical end portion defining a plurality of concentric ridges.

  • Patent number: 5080630
Abstract: A poultry processing machine supports birds on mandrels mounted on carriers which move in a rectangular path. The birds move continuously in opposite directions along two opposite sides of the rectangular path; and, they move intermittently in opposite directions along the other two sides of the path. Continuous movement is provided by chains with lugs which enter recesses formed in the carriers. Intermittent movement is provided by cylindrical cams which engage cam followers on the carriers and also force adjacent carriers together to couple them. The mandrel has a groove for receiving the backbone, projections for engaging the kidney spaces inside the body, and a shoulder for engaging the anterior end of the breastbone. It is pivoted to an upright position, a back-up position and a breast-up position as it travels around the apparatus. At the corners of the path, the carriers change their direction of movement without turning bodily.

  • Patent number: 5079875
Abstract: A grinding wheel for use in a grinding machine, wherein a plurality of grinding tips are bonded on the periphery of a wheel core having a disk-like shape using a bond which forms a bonding layer between the wheel core and the grinding tips. The grinding wheel is further provided with means for preventing coolant from entering inside of the abrasive layer and/or bonding layer, thereby preventing the bonding layer from being swelling by the coolant. In a first embodiment, the preventing means is composed of rubber layers formed on the both side surfaces of the grinding wheel at the places corresponding to the radial position of the bonding layer. In another embodiment, the preventing means is composed of water-repellant material capable of repelling water. Such material is composed of silicon or fluorine resin and is soaked into the grinding tips.

  • Patent number: 5074721
Abstract: A hard metal cutting blade comprises a blade body having front and rear faces. The blade body is meant for engagement to a tool head and for rotation about a rotation axis. The blade is moved in a feed direction for the fine machining of bores that extend parallel to the rotation axis. The front face of the blade includes a recessed chip face which defines a cutting edge that has a main blade that is followed by a secondary blade. The main blade is divided into two regions, a first region that is almost flush or slightly inclined with respect to the secondary blade, and a second region which inclines at a greater angle and is spaced further from the secondary blade. An abrasion-resistant hard material coats the blade body. This material is ground away from the chip face, at least in the area of the secondary blade, to provide a radius of no more than 5 .mu.m for the edge of the secondary blade.

  • Patent number: 5074177
Abstract: A machine tool has a pair of rotary spindles which support opposite ends of workpiece to be machined. At least one of the spindles is driven and a ring having a plurality of arms is coaxially secured to this spindle for rotation therewith. The arms entrain an annular member which is essentially coaxial with the spindles and is provided with threads. An annular guide plate which is again essentially coaxial with the spindles supports a plurality of clamping jaws for movement radially of the spindles. The clamping jaws are provided with threads which mesh with the threads of the annular member so that rotation of the latter can cause movement of the clamping jaws. A plurality of rocker arms is mounted on the machine tool for pivotal movement between an inoperative position and an operative position in which the rocker arms engage the periphery of the guide plate to prevent rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 5069092
Abstract: An iron-based cutting tool, useful for machining aluminum-based workpieces at surface speeds at or in excess of 1000 sfm, is fabricated by (i) removing surface impurities from the surface of the cutting tool which will be exposed to crater wear during such machining, the removal being by sputtering or ion bombardment using the surface as a target thereby resulting in a cleansed activated surface; and (ii) depositing a single-phase crystal film of sputtered silicon carbide onto the cleansed activated surface. The activation of the surface in step (i) is carried out by causing ionized argon to be accelerated against the surface maintained at about zero bias and the depositing of step (ii) is carried out to cause silicon carbide to be condensed onto the activated surface as a result of being dislodged from a silicon carbide target maintained at about zero bias for at least 300 minutes.
