  • Patent number: 4856967
Abstract: A fluid pump for delivering accurate volumes of high-pressure fluids is obtained using an intensifier to supply the majority of the motive power required to displace the fluids. The intensifier balances the forces between the output pressure of the displaced fluid (above a convention drive piston) with a large diameter booster piston that is driven pneumatically by low-pressure gas. A small horsepower motor provides needed power to overcome the friction of the high pressure gas pump, the differential pressure needed for the use of the pump, and to accurately control or trim the high-pressure output or rate to a precise value. A ball screw and spur gears are used to transmit the power. The pump is uniquely designed to reduce the stress from the motor to the components.

  • Patent number: 4854832
Abstract: Briefly, the present invention comprises a combined mechanical shifting mechanism and pneumatic pilot valve construction to contrl the cycling of a double diaphragm pump. The mechanical cycling or shifting mechanism is positioned between pressure chambers of the diaphragm pump in the pump housing and extends axially into one or the other pressure chamber. The shifting mechanism moves axially in response to engagement by one of the pump diaphragms. Upon engagement by a diaphragm, the mechanical shift opens fluid pressure passageways to a pneumatic pilot valve which controls fluid flow to the respective pressure chambers associated with the diaphragm pump. A positive pilot signal is thus supplied through the entire stroke or cycle of the diaphragm pump. The mechanical shifting mechanism is not connected directly to a diaphragm or to the connecting rod which connects the diaphragms.

  • Patent number: 4846633
Abstract: A scroll-type compressor has a stationary scroll and a moving scroll which is orbitted about the center of the stationary scroll. A valve chamber, a first by-pass, and a second by-pass are formed in the end plate of the stationary scroll. The first by-pass communicates between the inside of the valve chamber and one of the compression chambers formed by the scrolls, and the second by-pass communicates between the inside of the valve chamber and the outside of the end plate of the stationary scroll. The valve chamber houses a plate-shaped valve which is moved by fluid pressure between a closed position, in which it blocks the by-passes, and an open position, in which working fluid can flow between the two by-passes. Working fluid at either discharge pressure or suction pressure can be introduced into the valve chamber to the rear of the valve through a connecting pipe which is connected to the valve chamber and a 3-way solenoid valve.

  • Patent number: 4846635
Abstract: A hermetic compressor assembly is disclosed including a compressor mechanism and an electric drive motor within a hermetically sealed housing. The electric motor includes a rotatable rotor and a stator. In one disclosed embodiment, the stator is friction fit within the housing and a rotor is press fit over a crankshaft journalled in a crankcase of the compressor mechanism. The crankcase is selectively positioned within the housing and mounted thereto by means of mounting pins. In another disclosed embodiment, the motor is mounted to the compressor mechanism and the compressor crankcase is axially supported in the housing. A mounting pin is used to prevent rotation of the compressor mechanism within the housing caused by torque forces produced by dynamic operation of the motor. The disclosed mounting pins are received within holes in the crankcase and extend radially outwardly through oversized apertures in the housing. The pins are selectively positioned in the apertures prior to welding.

  • Patent number: 4844708
Abstract: A rotary apparatus uses vanes which oscillate with respect to one another, while simultaneously rotating within a chamber, to compress a gas or pump a liquid. The oscillating motion results from interaction of at least a single coupled pair of elliptical drive members. When the driver elliptical member is rotated at a constant angular velocity, it causes the driven elliptical member to rotate with a varying angular velocity. As the driven elliptical member is connected to at least one vane, that vane also rotates with a varying angular velocity. In a preferred embodiment, two pairs of meshing elliptical gears drive four vanes with an oscillating and rotating motion.

  • Patent number: 4840545
Abstract: In a rotary compressor, a relief valve for providing refrigerant at suction gas pressure to the discharg port when the rotary compressor is operated in the reverse rotation direction. The relief valve includes in the preferred embodiment a passage for providing a source of refrigerant at suction pressure, a pressure responsive relief valve, and a passage for providing refrigerant at suction pressure from the relief valve to the discharge port. When the compressor system is operated in the correct rotation, refrigerant at discharge pressure maintains the relief valve in the closed position, preventing flow from the discharge port to the suction pressure source. When the compressor system is operated in the reverse rotation however, the pressure in the discharge port is reduced to below that of the refrigerant in the suction pressure source, whereupon the releif valve opens permitting flow from the suction pressure source to the discharge port.

  • Patent number: 4838769
Abstract: A compressor assembly is disclosed including a compressor mechanism mounted within a hermetically sealed housing. The compressor mechanism includes a crankcase having a suction inlet opening providing direct communication into a suction cavity within the crankcase. The compressor mechanism is located in an upper chamber of the housing and a motor is located in a lower chamber, the entire interior of the housing being at discharge pressure. Suction gas is isolated from the motor so that heat from the motor does not increase the temperature of the suction gas. The discharge tube is positioned in the lower chamber so that discharge gas flows over the motor to cool it, thereby improving efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4834627
Abstract: A direct suction hermetic compressor assembly is disclosed including a hermetically sealed housing having enclosed therein a compressor mechanism discharging compressed gas refrigerant into the interior of the housing, thereby creating a high pressure housing. The compressor mechanism includes a crankcase defining a suction cavity into which low pressure suction gas is directly introduced. Bearings in the crankcase communicate between the housing interior and the suction cavity, and rotatably support a crankshaft. Annular seals received within grooves in the crankshaft bear against the bearings and are actuated and lubricated by oil fed from within the grooves to prevent high to low pressure gas leakage and to facilitate bearing lubrication. A scotch yoke mechanism operably couples a plurality of radially disposed pistons to a crankshaft eccentric portion within the suction cavity. Oil ducts open onto the loaded surface of the eccentric to limit oil leakage into the suction cavity.
