Abstract: Compounds of the class of salicylanilides substituted in the 4-position of the anilino moiety with a --CH(CN)-Ar group wherein Ar is phenyl, substituted phenyl, thienyl, halothienyl or naphthalenyl, said salicylanilides being useful as parasiticides.
Abstract: In a process for preparing mercaptans by catalytic cleavage of organic sulfides with hydrogen sulfide in the presence of sulfactive catalysts a method is provided for increasing the total conversion of reactants to mercaptans by including carbon disulfide in the reaction mixture. In a preferred embodiment carbon disulfide is present in the reaction mixture of hydrogen sulfide and organic sulfides in an amount in the molar ratio of about 0.1/1 to about 50/1 organic sulfide to carbon disulfide.
Abstract: New arylisothiocyanates corresponding to the formula ##STR1## wherein R represents alkyl, alkoxy or halogenX represents oxygen or sulfur andP represents an integer of from 2 to 5 are disclosed. They can be used for the regulation of plant growth especially for the dessication and defoliation of unlignified parts of plants above the soil.
Abstract: An unnatural nonapeptide with improved biological activities surpassing those of the natural follicle-stimulating lutenizing hormone-releasing hormone (Gn--RH) is described. The new peptide induces ovulation in warm-blooded animals at an oral dose of 5-100 .mu.g./kg.

Abstract: A new compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein X represents methyl group or chlorine atom, Y represents a lower alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or allyl group, R represents propargyl group or an alkenyl group having from 3 to 18 carbon atoms, which may be substituted by chlorine atom and n represents 0, 1 or 2 is used for combating acarids.
Abstract: Preparation of prostaglandin intermediates by reacting mon-tetrahydropyranyl ether, in a diethyl ether medium containing pyridine, with malonyl dichloride, reacting the resulting malonic acid chloride with triethylamine in a diethyl ether medium to produce a ketone derivative, followed by heating to effect ring closure, then reduction, then cleaving the cyclobutyl ring followed by epimerization to produce the "Corey" intermediate. Those intermediates which are novel are also claimed.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of linear aliphatic polycarbonates having terminal hydroxyl groups is carried out in two stages:I. in the first stage, the transesterification is carried out in the presence of a basic catalyst at a temperature below 140.degree. C, andIi. in the second stage, after complete destruction of the basic catalyst, the transesterification is completed in the presence of an acid catalyst at a temperature of between 200.degree. and 250.degree. C.The polycarbonate-diols obtained are useful for the preparation of polyurethane elastomers which are resistant to hydrolysis.

Abstract: The novel compound 2,4-dicyano-3,5-dimethylaniline is prepared by heating a cyclic compound having the formula ##STR1## and splitting off acetonitrile. The 2,4-dicyano-3,5-dimethylaniline is collected e.g. by sublimation apparatus and is useful as an intermediate in the preparation of dyestuffs e.g. by diazotization and coupling with known coupling components.
Abstract: Glycosyl esters of formula ##STR1## in which X is chloro, bromo, or lower alkyl and Y is tetra-(lower alkanoyl) or tetrabenzoyl .beta.-D-glucosyl or tri(lower alkanoyl) or tribenzoyl .beta.-D-ribosyl are disclosed. These esters possess antihyperlipoproteinemic activity. Methods for preparation and use, as well as pharmaceutical compositions of the glycosyl esters, also are disclosed.
Abstract: Certain 1,5-disubstituted 3-pyrrolidinones and 2,4-pyrrolidindiones have biological properties which resemble those of the natural prostaglandins.
Abstract: Acylthiosulfenyl halides, phosphorylsulfenyl halides, and thiophosphorylsulfenyl halides are added to monoolefins, multiolefins and acetylenic compounds. 1,2-Markownikov oriented adducts are the principal products when conjugated diolefins are employed as the starting feedstock. Anti-Markownikov adducts are obtained as major products when unsymmetrical monoolefins and nonconjugated multiolefins are used as the starting material. The addition reactions are conducted at low temperatures.

Abstract: Trimethylenecyclopropane wherein all six hydrogen atoms are symmetrically substituted with cyano, alkoxycarbonyl or carbacyl groups and which are salt-forming can be made by reacting tetrachlorocyclopropene with the appropriate active methylene compound such as malononitrile, acetyl acetone or ethyl cyanoacetate. Using limited amounts of malononitrile and a tertiary amine, a tetracyanodimethylenecyclopropene substituted with a quaternary ammonium group is obtained, which reacts with other active methylene compounds including the above, nitroalkanes, benzoylacetonitrile, benzenesulfonylacetonitrile, and dialkyl sulfones to form unsymmetrical substituted trimethylenecyclopropane. The neutral compounds are useful as organic oxidants. Their radical anion salts are useful as organic conductors and as dyes, and the dianion salts are useful as image formers on transparent films or on opaque substrates.
Abstract: This invention relates to chemical conjugates of acid polysaccharides and biochemically active complex organic molecules and particularly to such conjugates which are capable of forming soluble sodium salts and insoluble calcium salts.
