Abstract: A method of manufacturing herringbone gears starting with non-hardened cylindrical stock material, establishing a relief notch for each tooth in the cylindrical stock where the two helices meet, roughing the double helical teeth, and case-hardening the gear teeth. The teeth are then finished using high accuracy Cubic Borzon Nitride (CBN)-faced cutters with the relief notch allowing run-out of the cutters.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing jewelry pieces formed entirely or partially of a shape memory alloy provided with a pre-determined memory shape, where the shape memory characteristic and/or the superelastic characteristic of the alloy is used either in the construction of the piece or to facilitate repair of damaged pieces, since plastically deformed alloy shapes can be corrected by raising the alloy above the phase transition temperature, whereupon the piece resumes it memory shape.
Abstract: Methods for manufacturing outlet nozzles for use in rocket motors are disclosed. The methods include providing an inner wall, positioning an outer wall around the inner wall, positioning spacers in the space between the inner and outer walls, and laser welding between the spacers and at least one of the inner and outer walls in order to form cooling ducts between the spacers and to provide T-shaped joints between the spacers and at least one of the inner and outer walls, the T-shaped joints including a rounded shape within the cooling ducts.
Abstract: A roller body for a roller, for pressure-treating or temperature-treating or combined pressure- and temperature-treating a web-shaped medium, for example paper, includes a casting body made of an iron-based alloy comprising graphite lamellae. Particular regions of the roller body are placed under tensile stresses during or after production. The stresses being applied are larger than those which occur in these regions during operation of a roller. The additionally applied tensile stresses trigger local plastic deformations in peripheral regions of the graphite lamellae, such that once the tensile stresses are no longer applied, the roller body behaves elastically and no longer permanently deforms up to the stress level achieved.
Abstract: In an arrangement and method for mounting a camshaft onto a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine by camshaft bearings disposed on the cylinder head of the engine camshaft bearing by support seats which are formed integrally with the cylinder head and bearing caps which are formed integrally with a cylinder head cover mounted onto the cylinder head, at least one of the bearings is an assembly bearing with a separate assembly bearing cap that has a bearing opening of a diameter greater than that of the camshaft so that the camshaft when placed onto the bearing seats is not fully moved into the bearing seat openings but is fully engaged with the bearing seats only when the cylinder head cover is mounted onto the cylinder head whereby the camshaft in the assembly bearing is moved out of contact with the assembly bearing cap.

The present invention provides a bearing device having a first end and a second end, where the first end has a curvilinear shape. The present invention also provides a strip of metal material with a predetermined length, conforming the strip of metal material to the curvilinear shape of the first end and attaching the strip of metal material to the first end.
Abstract: A welding filler metal is manufactured by casting a nickel-base alloy as an extrusion rod having a diameter of from about 0.2 inch to about 0.5 inch. The extrusion rod has at least about 12 grains in the cross section of the extrusion rod. The extrusion rod is extruded in a single extrusion operation to a filler-metal diameter of less than about 0.1 inch and using an areal extrusion ratio of at least about 9:1 to form the welding filler metal. Preferably, the process is used to make a nickel-base superalloy welding filler metal of a diameter of about 0.05-0.06 inch from an extrusion-rod casting of about ¼ inch diameter and having at least about 12 grains in the cross section.

Abstract: A wheeled vehicle kingpin bolt-replacement tool is disclosed manufactured from a rigid material, which facilitates bolt removal. The tool allows a baseplate to be inserted along two perpendicular intersection channels. A first channel engages the baseplate to prevent movement upon application of force while the second channel allows sufficient clearance for the kingpin bolt that is bound to the baseplate to be forcefully struck and removed from the base plate. A method is also disclosed for using the tool of the present invention to remove a kingpin bolt from a baseplate upon application of force.
Abstract: An extruded thermoplastic member includes a first material, having a first color, and an accent strip, having a second color, coextruded with the first material in the form of a ridge extending outward between corners in the surface of the thermoplastic member. A valance is constructed using such a thermoplastic member, with two such ridges extending along curved portions extending along the top and bottom of the thermoplastic member. The curved portions are formed as parts of closed structures, facilitating a miter sawing process used to cut the thermoplastic member into a central portion and a pair of end portions for the valance.
Abstract: A method for forming a hollow part (18) that allows the use of hydroforming in cases where the part interconnects between sections having extreme variations in cross-section. A complete hollow part (18) is formed by joining a hydroformed hollow section with hollow sections. A method for securing a fastener sleeve (102) insert in a pre-fabricated hollow part (100) is also provided. In this method, the hollow part (100) is deformed slightly to form flanges (108) that secure the insert (102) in the part. Once the insert (102) is secure in the hollow part, fasteners can be applied to the part without collapsing it.
Abstract: A method of attaching a self-aligning flange to a vacuum pipe includes a flange member, a collar member and a stop member. An inner perimeter of the collar member is sized to receive an outer perimeter of a pipe. The flange member extends outward from an outer perimeter of the collar member. The stop member extends inward from the inner perimeter of the collar member. A method of forming a large diameter extruded pipe includes a continuous cross section of at least six inches in diameter. It is preferable to weld a flange to one end of the large diameter extruded pipe. Immediately after the large diameter extruded pipe has been formed in an extrusion press, it is sprayed with a coolant to increase the surface hardness thereof.
Abstract: Elastic roller and process for producing elastic roller. The elastic roller includes a hard roller core and an elastic coating layer at an outer side of the hard roller core. The elastic coating layer includes an elastic matrix material and fillers imbedded in the matrix material, and at least a portion of the fillers include metallic fillers. The process includes combining at least one metallic filler into an elastic matrix material and applying the combined elastic matrix material and at least one metallic filler onto an outer side of the hard roller core to form an elastic coating layer.

Abstract: Pulling rolls (13) for glass ribbons (11) are provided. The rolls include a shaft (17), a plurality of heat-resistant discs (15) mounted on the shaft in face-to-face contact, and a pair of fittings (25 or 25,31) affixed to the shaft which apply an axial compressive force to the discs. The axial compressive force gives the portions (27) of the roll surface (33) which contact the glass ribbon during use a Shore D hardness at room temperature of between 30 and 55. The rolls achieve a long service life without applying excessive force to the glass ribbon or generating high levels of particulate contamination.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a multi-stage compression type rotary compressor which avoids the replacement of parts to be used as much as possible to reduce costs and also which enables easily setting an appropriate displacement volume ratio between first and second rotary compression elements without increasing the size of the compressor outer housing. This is done by altering the inner diameter of the cylinder of one of the rotary compression elements without altering the thickness (or height) of this cylinder to set a displacement volume ratio between the first and second rotary compression elements to an optimum value in accordance with the alteration.
Abstract: An optical component manipulation system has two opposed jaws, which can each be independently positioned relative to each other in a coordinate plane to thereby effect the desired positioning of optical components within the larger system.
