  • Patent number: 6908420
Abstract: A roller body for a roller, for pressure-treating or temperature-treating or combined pressure- and temperature-treating a web-shaped medium, for example paper, includes a casting body made of an iron-based alloy comprising graphite lamellae. Particular regions of the roller body are placed under tensile stresses during or after production. The stresses being applied are larger than those which occur in these regions during operation of a roller. The additionally applied tensile stresses trigger local plastic deformations in peripheral regions of the graphite lamellae, such that once the tensile stresses are no longer applied, the roller body behaves elastically and no longer permanently deforms up to the stress level achieved.

  • Patent number: 6901648
Abstract: A welding filler metal is manufactured by casting a nickel-base alloy as an extrusion rod having a diameter of from about 0.2 inch to about 0.5 inch. The extrusion rod has at least about 12 grains in the cross section of the extrusion rod. The extrusion rod is extruded in a single extrusion operation to a filler-metal diameter of less than about 0.1 inch and using an areal extrusion ratio of at least about 9:1 to form the welding filler metal. Preferably, the process is used to make a nickel-base superalloy welding filler metal of a diameter of about 0.05-0.06 inch from an extrusion-rod casting of about ¼ inch diameter and having at least about 12 grains in the cross section.

  • Patent number: 6901645
Abstract: A wheeled vehicle kingpin bolt-replacement tool is disclosed manufactured from a rigid material, which facilitates bolt removal. The tool allows a baseplate to be inserted along two perpendicular intersection channels. A first channel engages the baseplate to prevent movement upon application of force while the second channel allows sufficient clearance for the kingpin bolt that is bound to the baseplate to be forcefully struck and removed from the base plate. A method is also disclosed for using the tool of the present invention to remove a kingpin bolt from a baseplate upon application of force.

  • Patent number: 6898836
Abstract: A method for forming a hollow part (18) that allows the use of hydroforming in cases where the part interconnects between sections having extreme variations in cross-section. A complete hollow part (18) is formed by joining a hydroformed hollow section with hollow sections. A method for securing a fastener sleeve (102) insert in a pre-fabricated hollow part (100) is also provided. In this method, the hollow part (100) is deformed slightly to form flanges (108) that secure the insert (102) in the part. Once the insert (102) is secure in the hollow part, fasteners can be applied to the part without collapsing it.

  • Patent number: 6892454
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a multi-stage compression type rotary compressor which avoids the replacement of parts to be used as much as possible to reduce costs and also which enables easily setting an appropriate displacement volume ratio between first and second rotary compression elements without increasing the size of the compressor outer housing. This is done by altering the inner diameter of the cylinder of one of the rotary compression elements without altering the thickness (or height) of this cylinder to set a displacement volume ratio between the first and second rotary compression elements to an optimum value in accordance with the alteration.
