Patent number: 8693407Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that provide techniques for managing persistent resource assignments in a wireless communication system. An access point can generate a bitmap by mapping access terminals having persistent assignments for traffic channels to a series of bitmap bits that provide keep-alive indications for the access terminals. The bitmap can then be provided as a common keep-alive message in a broadcast or multicast transmission to the access terminals. The keep-alive message can further include CRC bits for error prevention. An access terminal, upon receiving the keep-alive message, can then determine whether a bitmap bit in the keep-alive message corresponding to the access terminal conveys a keep-alive indication for the terminal and utilize its persistently assigned traffic channels accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2007Date of Patent: April 8, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Aamod Khandekar, Alexei Gorokhov, Rajat Prakash

Patent number: 8693404Abstract: A system, method, and computer readable medium for transmit protection in a femtocell system are provided. A multi-stage transmit protection routine prohibits radio transmissions for unregistered femtocell systems and transmissions from femtocell systems in unauthorized areas. A femtocell system may request transmission authorization from a base station manager. The base station manager may provide an authorization failure if the femtocell system is not registered or if the source address of the femtocell system is not within a predefined distance of a registered location of the femtocell system. If the femtocell is provided a transmission authorization, the femtocell system may obtain a GPS location from a user equipment and provide the GPS location to the base station manager which evaluates the location. The base station manager may provide an authorization failure if the GPS location is not within a predefined distance of the registered location of the femtocell system.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2013Date of Patent: April 8, 2014Assignee: Ubeeairwalk, Inc.Inventor: Christopher Martin Edward Osborn

Patent number: 8670384Abstract: For wireless networks that transmit synchronization signals allowing user equipment to synchronize to cells within the network and transmit reference signals allowing user equipment to determine cell identities, a method and apparatus taught herein advantageously link the synchronization signal sequences to the reference signal sequences according to a defined mapping. The linking simplifies the cell search process by allowing user equipment to determine cell identities based on mapping detected synchronization signal sequences to the corresponding reference signal or to the corresponding subset of reference signals in embodiments where there are more reference signal sequences than synchronization signal sequences.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2011Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Bengt Lindoff, Robert Baldemair, Erik Dahlman, Stefan Parkvall

Patent number: 8649385Abstract: In response to user requests for content, content may be dynamically mapped to communications channels, e.g., QAM channels, used to communicate multiple programs during the same transmission time slot, e.g., through the use of multiplexed MPEG streams. A customer premise device, e.g., STB, uses a tuner tuned to the QAM channel to receive the communicated stream, recovers multiple programs communicated using the single communications channel, and records and/or displays the recovered programs. In this manner, more programs can be received and recorded than there are tuners in the customer premise device, e.g., STB. In some embodiments a content service provider control node processes user requests for content, maps requested programs to transport streams, communicates mapping decision information to a content distribution node, and communicates QAM tuning information to the user devices which can then receive and record multiple programs communicated via a single communications channel.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2007Date of Patent: February 11, 2014Assignee: Time Warner Cable Enterprises LLCInventors: Chris Cholas, George Sarosi, William Helms

Patent number: 8644218Abstract: A call session control function (CSCF) controls a communication session between a first communication device and a second communication device. The first communication device detects a loss of signal and transmits a modified session initiation protocol (SIP) bye message. The modified SIP bye message includes a code that indicates a loss of the communication session and an identifier for the second communication device. The CSCF receives the modified SIP bye message and in response to the code, subscribes with a home subscriber server (HSS) for a registration notification for the second communication device. The second communication device subsequently transfers a SIP registration request and the CSCF responsively receives the registration notification for the second communication device from the HSS that indicates a network address for the second communication device.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2011Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Bejoy Pankajakshan, Warren B. Patent number: 8644306Abstract: In a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) video communication method and apparatus, first and second VoIP-based terminals store video event indexes and images mapped thereto with respect to state information of a user and terminal, and establish a session using session establishment information defining the video event. The first terminal then transmits a data packet including the video event index, and the second terminal receives the data packet and outputs an image mapped to the video event index of the images stored in advance. Thus, by transmitting and receiving a predefined index alone without transmitting user and terminal states as a real time data-type image, the VoIP video communication method and apparatus prevent unnecessary waste of bandwidth in video communication.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2006Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Soung-Kwan Kimn, Hyun-Min Yoon, Hui-Jae Lee, Ji-Youn Jung, Myeon-Kee Youn, Seong-Joon Jeon

Patent number: 8638743Abstract: Aspects are described for reducing interference in wireless systems. In a first embodiment, an uplink acknowledgment region associated with a macro cell is determined, and an assignment of uplink control resources is restricted to a region within the uplink acknowledgment region. A control signal is then transmitted to user equipment via the assignment of uplink control resources. In another embodiment, control signals are received from wireless terminals, which include desired uplink control signals associated with an access point base station, as well as interfering uplink acknowledgement signals associated with macro cells. The control signals may then be regenerated by cancelling the set of interfering signals from the control signals. The desired uplink control signals are then decoded.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2013Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Renqiu Wang, Hao Xu

Patent number: 8619627Abstract: A particular networked machine broadcasts packets from its interfaces resulting in patterns of returned copies of the sent broadcast packets received on its interfaces. Based on these patterns, a determination is made to identify groupings of one or more of the interfaces that are considered by remote devices as being grouped together, as a broadcast packet transmitted from an interface belonging to a grouping will be received on, and only on, a single interface in each of the other groupings, with a grouping being one or more interfaces. In one implementation, a grouping is defined as a single independent interface, or an aggregation of two or more interfaces combined into a single logical interface, such as, but not limited to that of a PortChannel.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2010Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Christian Elsen, Pierre-Emmanuel Ettori

Patent number: 8605588Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes determining that a packet has been dropped for a flow of packets between a source and destination. This may be determined at a network device that is forwarding the packets. Information related to a possible cause for the packet being dropped is then determined. For example, a context as to why the packet is dropped may be determined. The context is then associated with information for the flow and is useful to perform a packet drop analysis for the flow. For example, a source and destination for the flow is recorded along with the possible cause of the packet drop. This information may be stored and sent to an aggregation device. The aggregation device may then analyze the entry, possibly along with other entries from this network device or other network devices, and determine any troubleshooting information for the packet drops.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2007Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Ganesh Chennimalai Sankaran, Dinesh Sivaraj
