Abstract: A client device accesses a video input stream from an intermediate device for display. The client device analyzes the video input stream to determine that the video input stream matches a template indicating a change of speed. In some example embodiments, the analysis is performed while the client device is generating a video output stream that replaces video content received from a content source via the intermediate device. Based on the video input stream matching the template, the client device modifies the video output stream to show the change of speed. For example, commercials transmitted from a national content provider to a smart TV via a set-top box may be replaced with targeted commercials. During the replacement, fast-forwarding of the commercial may be detected by matching a template with the video input stream. While the video input stream is being fast-forwarded, the smart TV fast-forwards the targeted commercial.

The HMD displays a VR environment including sports content of a live game, a prerecorded game, or a sports channel. The options module generates an options signal to show viewing options in the VR environment. The viewing options define viewing aspects for viewing the sports content within the VR environment. The sensor or input device generates signals based on detection of movement of the HMD, movement of an eyeball of a user, user voice communication, or user contact with the input device. The selection module, based on the signals: selects the sports content and a viewing option; and generates a selection signal. The display module displays the sports content in the VR environment based on the selection signal.

Abstract: Provided is a system and method for publishing a disparate live media output stream that complies with distribution format regulations. The system generates a preview based on a low-latency protocol for a plurality of live input streams. Based on at least one event identified in the preview in real-time, an updated schedule is generated. In accordance with the updated schedule, a disparate live media output stream manifest is generated based on manipulation of manifests of the plurality of live input streams and pre-encoded media assets.

Abstract: This document describes systems, methods, devices, and other techniques for determining media items to insert in a media stream. A first media client can play a primary media stream that is multicast to various media clients including the first media client and other media clients. The first media client identifies a start of a primary programming timeslot in the primary media stream, and in response, obtains and stores a secondary media item. After storing the secondary media item at the first media client, the first media client detects an insertion signal in the primary media stream that indicates a secondary programming timeslot is about to begin in the primary media stream. The first media client can then play the secondary media item in place of the primary media stream during the secondary programming timeslot.

Abstract: Multimedia content segment identified by users may be shared among media devices and media device users. Media content segment metadata is generated based on one or more identified media content item segments identified in one or more media content items. The media content segment metadata may include, but is not limited to, information indicating segment start and stop times, information about the particular media content item (e.g., title, actors, original air date), and other user-provided descriptive information. A link for the media content segment metadata may be posted for display on a webpage and which enables other users to access the media content segment metadata.

Abstract: A user interface allows for blending of television program choices from which a viewer may select, the blending representing options for linear and non-linear programming presented together within a single hierarchy of a designated category. The blending may further include managed content relevant to the designated category, where desired. Such designated categories may include television programming categories and/or content categories. The options for linear and non-linear programming may be presented together within a single screen of the user interface.

Abstract: Content is automatically removed from closed-caption data embedded in a video signal. A closed-caption compliance system decodes a first portion of a first video frame that includes a closed-caption data packet. The system extracts a first character string that includes at least a portion of the closed-caption data packet. The system determines whether the first character string is suitable for distribution to viewers. If the first character string is suitable for distribution to viewers, then the system encodes at least a first portion of the first character string as a second closed-caption data packet to include in a second video frame. Otherwise, the system modifies the first character string to generate a second character string that is suitable for distribution to viewers; and encodes at least a first portion of the second character string as a third closed-caption data packet to include in the second video frame.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for enabling in-video shopping functionality during presentation of live streaming video content. A system may initiate a video streaming support instance based on a request from a streamer device. The system may then send code to one or more client devices viewing a live video stream of the streamer device, where the code causes the client devices to present, in association with the live video stream, an interactive shopping overlay configured to listen for item information from the system. During the live video stream, in response to the system receiving an instruction from the streamer device to insert a product or other item into the interactive shopping overlay, the system may send information to the client devices that causes the interactive shopping overlay on each client device to present the specified item as a selectable item displayed over the live streaming video.

The network interface device also includes an active path between the entry port and a second port. The network interface device also includes a buffer in the active path configured to absorb, attenuate, terminate, or isolate radio-frequency (RF) signals. The network interface device also includes a switching element in the active path configured to cause the RF signals to bypass the buffer when the network interface is in a first state that exists during powered operation of the network interface device, and direct the RF signals to the buffer when the network interface device is in a second state that exists during non-powered operation or faulted operation of the network interface device.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing data and/or operations on data are disclosed. A method can comprise receiving content from a first storage medium for playback. The received content can comprise a stored first portion of a transport stream. At least a portion of the received content can be caused to playback. A playback position of the at least a portion of the received content can be determined relative to a live position of the transport stream. If the determined playback position of the at least a portion of the received content is outside a predetermined threshold proximity to the live position, a second portion of the transport stream can be stored to the first storage medium. If the determined playback position of the received content is within the predetermined threshold proximity to the live position, the second portion of the transport stream can be stored to a second storage medium.

Abstract: When a device is playing out a media stream, the device determines a target time at which the device is to start playing out replacement content in place of a portion of the media stream. However, the device then detects that a starting time when the device starts playout of the replacement content is delayed from the target time by a delay period of duration P. In response, the device then reduces its playout of the replacement content by duration P, to help playout of the replacement content end at a desired time. For instance, the device could seek forward in playout of the replacement content by duration P and/or could remove one or more other portions of the replacement content to total a reduction of duration P.

Abstract: A media presentation and distribution system is communicatively coupled to a client device, which handles presentation of overlay-graphic items at the client device. The client device receives a media stream from the media presentation and distribution system via a network. The received media stream includes media content and one or more tags. The client device further identifies in the received media content, the one or more tags, which corresponds to the overlay-graphic items. The client device further identifies candidate time-periods in the media content based on the identified one or more tags in the media content. At least one presentation attribute for the overlay-graphic items is identified based on the identified one or more tags in the media content. The client device further presents the overlay-graphic items at the candidate time-periods om the media content based on the identified at least presentation attribute.

Abstract: System and methods are provided for presenting a video of an item via a network page of an electronic marketplace provider. The video may depict the item in motion. The video frames may be included as part of an image file (e.g., a sprite sheet) such that presentation of the video at a user interface requires only a single download of the image file. A navigational interface may be provided to manipulate the playback of the video. Additional images may be provided with the video that individually depict stationary views of the item. The user may navigate between the navigational interface of the video and a number of selection elements corresponding to the additional images. Thus, efficiency of providing a video of an item is improved as is the ease of navigating between videos and images within an item detail page.

Example apparatus disclosed herein include means for discarding existing characteristic datasets from a list; means for populating the list with first characteristic datasets obtained from a first plurality of images representative of an environment during a first period of time of a media presentation; means for limiting a number of the first characteristic datasets stored in the list for a first location represented in the first plurality of images; and means for comparing the first characteristic datasets to each other to determine a first number of unique faces in the environment during the first period of time, wherein the means for discarding is to delete the first characteristic datasets from the list, and the means for populating is to re-populate the list with second characteristic datasets obtained from a second plurality of images representative of the environment.
