  • Patent number: 11100785
Abstract: A method of requesting assistance from emergency services employs an electronic actuator that is preconfigured to communicate with authorities in the event that the actuator is used. An electronic signal is relayed from the device to remote servers, where machine learning and artificial intelligence logic is applied to the signal, before relaying a signal to the most appropriate authorities. The electronic signal may include information such as identifying and location information. The signal may also utilize various sensors or detectors, such as cameras, accelerometers, light sensors, pressure sensors, and more in order to collect and relay additional data. The response is then relayed to the authorities, who may continue to receive information about the user while in transit. In this way, the method of requesting assistance from emergency services provides security for people who may encounter emergency situations in which they cannot use a phone or mobile device.

  • Patent number: 11100771
Abstract: Devices and methods for providing localized haptic effects are provided. The devices include a haptically enabled display device having one or more haptic actuators. The one or more haptic actuators are located in a non-viewing area of a display screen of a haptically enabled display device and cause localized haptic effects in a viewing area of the display screen. The haptically enabled display device includes a processor configured to determine haptic control signals for activating the haptic actuators. The haptic control signal activates the one or more haptic actuators to provide a localized haptic effect at a target location in the viewing area, remote from the non-viewing area location of the one or more haptic actuators.

  • Patent number: 11002841
Abstract: A method for the evaluation of signals of a rangefinder having at least one sensor point involves carrying out measurements cyclically, wherein the rangefinder emits a plurality of measurement points that indicate a distance from the sensor point. The rangefinder measures distances in a plurality of directions, and a horizontal angle is associated with each measurement point. The measurement points are differentiated into useful signals and interfering signals based on the distance. Measurement points with a distance below a first limiting value are identified as interfering signals, and measurement points above the first limiting value are identified as useful signals. Useful signals are associated with a first measurement area when they satisfy a predetermined condition for distance and horizontal angle. The quantity of useful signals in the first measurement area is determined, and a warning signal is emitted when the quantity of useful signals lies below a first threshold value.

  • Patent number: 10991227
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing indications of received emergency alert messages to devices within a consumer premises are disclosed. In one embodiment, a consumer premise equipment (CPE) receiving one or more emergency alert messages from a content provider or managed network determines one or more alert responses for one or more devices of the consumer premise network. In one implementation, the responses are based at least in part on the received emergency alert messages themselves. The CPE issues one or more commands to one or more devices present within the consumer premises (which may be for example a home automation system), to indicate the one or more determined alert indication responses, such as auditory alert and visual alert by the one or more devices. Thus, users in the consumer premises may be made aware of an alert message outside of the typical means in which an alert is displayed, such as via a television.

  • Patent number: 10981502
Abstract: A system for monitoring vehicle dynamics and detecting adverse events during operation is presented. Position sensors attached to a vehicle are configured to identify a vehicle orientation (heading) as well as the vehicle's direction of travel (trajectory). A system controller connected to these position sensors can detect the difference between these two measurements. When the difference between these two measurements exceeds a safety threshold, it can be an indication of a slip event. A slip event can be caused by compromised traction or stability and may lead to a loss of vehicle control. The system controller can be configured to monitor various vehicle dynamics to detect these slip events. The system controller may be configured to track geolocations of slip events to create a database of historical slip events for determining location-based risk factors and prevention of future events.
