  • Patent number: 6721188
Abstract: A digital data processing device, e.g., a web server, having a power supply and at least one component such as a motherboard or a disk drive powered by the power supply and interconnected therewith by a power transfer element which is separate from the power supply and the component. The power transfer element is adapted to physically mate with the power supply and the powered component and to provide electrical coupling between them along a non-obstructing path of defined geometry. It includes a substantially rigid card, e.g. a circuit card, with at least one conductive pathway, and further aspects of the invention provide mechanisms for coupling the power transfer element to the supply and to the other component while orienting the card within the chassis. The power transfer card may carry an edge connector into which the edge of a power supply card fits, or vice-versa, so power enters conductors on the card at a proximal edge or end of the card.

  • Patent number: 6714423
Abstract: The object of the invention is a device and an elongated EMI gasket (20) made for an electroconductive wire, used for its EMI shiekding (electromagnetic interference). The EMI gasket (20) comprises, on a first plane, a bending portion (23a, 23b) that forms a first flat part (23) for attaching the EMI gasket (20) to a device to be EMI shielded so that the EMI gasket touches the device to be EMI shielded with its surface, which is according to said first plane. Typically, the attachment is carried out by pushing the EMI gasket (20) into a groove (26) adapted in connection with the joint to be EMI sealed. EMI tightness is achieved by pressing together parts (21, 22) of the device to be EMI shielded, whereupon the EMI gasket (20) attached in between them forms an electric contact at short distances between said parts.

  • Patent number: 6700791
Abstract: An attachment mechanism for retaining expansion circuit boards in the mounting panel of a computer is disclosed. The attachment mechanism comprises a span extending between two displaced fastener openings on the mounting panel of the computer and depending therefrom a plurality of the fingers or tabs to engage the mounting bracket of the expansion circuit boards. By engaging a plurality of the expansion circuit boards with the fingers or tabs, all of the circuit boards may be clamped and reliably retained in position with substantially uniform force and the use of a minimum number of fasteners. The tabs or fingers extend generally perpendicular to the span of the bracket such that the span of the bracket provides substantial rigidity and insures substantially equal force being exerted by the tabs or fingers onto the mounting brackets of the electronic circuit boards. The use of a minimum number of fasteners shortens the time necessary for assembly and reduces the part count.

  • Patent number: 6674653
Abstract: In a shielding scheme for circuit boards, conductive shields have contoured mating surfaces that become flat, or co-planar, at the circuit board-shield interface when the shields are fastened to opposite sides of the circuit board. The contoured mating surfaces compensate for deformation of the shields resulting from the fastening so that uniform mechanical pressure is applied at all designated points along the circuit board-shield interface even though fastening points are intermittently spaced throughout the shields. When compressible conductive gaskets are optionally interposed between the shields and the circuit board, stops are included to accommodate for the thickness of the gasket. High signal isolation is achieved without correspondingly high contact area on the circuit board and without closely-spaced fastening points. Low assembly time and manufacturing cost results for shielded circuit board assemblies incorporating the shielding scheme.

  • Patent number: 6603664
Abstract: An electronic circuits module includes a cover and a base. A lever and cam assembly is rotatably attached to the cover, and the cam includes first and second lobes. The lever and cam assembly is rotatable between first, second and third positions. In the first position, the first lobe can be inserted through an eccentric opening in the base, and then rotated to the second position to lock the cover to the base. In the third position, the module can be inserted into the computer and when the lever and cam assembly is moved back to the second position, the second lobe locks the module in the computer. A mechanism in the computer inhibits the movement of the lever and cam assembly into the first position, thereby preventing the disconnection of the base from the cover when the module is installed in the computer.
