Patent number: 6542384Abstract: A shielded riser card assembly for reducing electromagnetic radiation from a computer enclosure is disclosed. The riser card assembly comprises a four-layer riser card having a connector adjacent its lower edge, such as a connector for an NLX system board. A cable connection socket is on the riser card a first distance away from the connector, and a plurality of traces on a surface of the riser card run between the cable connection socket and the connector. A sheet of conductive material covers the plurality of traces and is spaced a second distance apart from the surface of the riser card. At least one fastener connected is to the sheet and attached to the riser card. The fastener conductively connects the sheet of conductive material to a ground layer of the riser card. A plurality of non-conductive spacers are disposed between and in contact with both of the sheet and the riser card, for maintaining the sheet a predetermined distance away from the riser card.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2001Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Sun Microsystems, Inc.Inventors: Sergiu Radu, Russel K. Patent number: 6493236Abstract: An electronic equipment enclosure has a lower housing part and a main board fixed relative thereto. A main board connector is fixed to the main board and faces the lower housing part. A sub board is inserted to a temporary attachment position within the lower housing part and faces the main board at the temporary attachment position. A sub board connector is fixed relative to the sub board and mates and connects with the main board connector. A guide rail is movable freely between a lower position and an upper position within the lower housing part. At the lower position the guide rail guides the sub board toward the temporary attachment position. By the guide rail moving from the lower position to the upper position, the sub board is caused to move from the temporary attachment position to the fully attached position.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2002Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignee: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: Hiroaki Momiyama, Takao Mokutani

Patent number: 6313997Abstract: A printed circuit board card cage contains upper and lower perforated sheet metal plates, having a plurality of mutually opposed staggered patterns of bumps, that are configured to form guide channels for guiding printed circuit boards into engagement with respective card slot backplane connectors, thereby eliminating the need for attachment of a separate set of card guides. The patterns of card guide bumps or ‘upsets’ are arranged so as to direct, yet constrain, the travel paths of printed circuit boards from their points of insertion through grooves in rails at the front of the chassis to the backplane connectors, while providing minimal interruption of a gridwork of cooling air flow perforations through the sheet metal plates. The upsets themselves do not penetrate the sheet metal plates, and the size of the perforations are such that there are no EMI leaks, thus eliminating the need for and assembly of additional perforated plates.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1999Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: Pliant Systems, Inc.Inventor: Floyd G.
