  • Patent number: 4711690
Abstract: The multilayer identification card comprises several synthetic layers compounded by the effects of heat and pressure. An inside interface of at least one of these layers exhibits depressions which are filled with the material of the adjacent layer during the laminating process. The adjacent layers are selected in such a way that they are of different transparency. Thus a light and shadow effect is produced in incident light which is reversed in transmitted light.

  • Patent number: 4711691
Abstract: The build-up drum of build-up machines is frequently interchangeably mounted on its drive shaft in order to be able to adapt to changes in dimension in the production program with one and the same machine. If the operating and control elements associated with the drum bear directly against the end walls of the drum, each change of the drum requires considerable expense for adjustments and alignments. This is avoided by providing the build-up drum on both sides with a respective spacer and abutment sleeve against which the movable operating and control elements can bear in a constantly uniform orientation relative to the middle of the drum as the critical reference plane.

  • Patent number: 4711681
Abstract: Floor covering, such as carpets or other covering materials for residential and general furnishing, are fixed to a floor or other surface by means of an applied bonding layer. Embedded into the bonding layer are adhesive particles which are made chemically passive and the cohesive forces of which are greater in the thermoplastic state than their adhesive forces and which are converted, only after the carpet has been laid and adjusted in position, from their non-adhesive state into a malleable tacky phase of the layer as a result of the effect of temperature, after which a firm bond is produced in a cooling phase as a result of the lowering of this temperture. Alternatively, the bonding layer may be provided by a separate interlayer.

  • Patent number: 4710235
Abstract: A process for bonding together two or more pieces of material, at least one of which is an amorphous material, wherein an intermediate interlayer is placed between the two pieces and the assembly is hot pressed at a temperature above the melting point of the interlayer but below the crystallization temperature of the amorphous piece. The composition of the interlayer is chosen so that the elements diffusing into the pieces being bonded are compatible with retention of the amorphous structure. When the bonding operation is carried to completion, no evidence of the interlayer as a separate phase remains. Alternatively, the bonding operation may be halted before completion and the interlayer will remain as a separate, observable phase. For bonding hard metal amorphous materials, alloys of aluminum with silver, gold, silicon and germanium, and alloys of gold with silicon, with the addition of fluxing elements such as phosphorus and boron, have been found to provide particularly satisfactory results.
