  • Patent number: 4158919
Abstract: Measuring apparatus comprises a probe having a stylus supported on a housing by a spring extending in a plane transverse to the axis of the stylus and allowing the stylus to pivot about a center lying on the axis and to move linearly in the direction of the axis. A sensor has fixed and movable parts off-set from the axis, the movable part being connected to the stylus by a transverse arm. The sensor senses both pivotal and axial movement, the pivotal movement corresponding to movement of the work-contacting end of the stylus transverse to the axis. At least one further sensor is provided to sense at least the axial movement of the stylus. An electrical network responsive to both sensor outputs is arranged to discriminate between transverse and axial movements of the stylus. Alternatively the sensors are arranged to give a single output for any movement of the stylus.

  • Patent number: 4159028
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of forming and containerizing a multiphase cosmetic composition such as for example, a cleansing cream-astringent composition comprised of a cream phase and a gel phase combined to form the cosmetic composition or product. The method disclosed herein basically entails directing at least two initially separate and distinct phase compositions to a dispensing head and simultaneously dispensing the at least two phase compositions from the dispensing head into an offset rotatively driven container. Initially the dispensing head is positioned about the lower portion of the container and once dispensing is commenced, the dispensing head is slowly moved vertically from the lower portion of the container to the top thereof and during this movement each phase of the multiphase compositions is simultaneously dispensed therefrom and a stirring effect is achieved by the rotating container and a plurality of stirring rods disposed about the dispensing head.

  • Patent number: 4157724
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for distributing loose fibers or particles onto a moving web in an even layer thereon preparatory to production of a non-woven sheet of the fiber or particle material. The material is filled into a container having a generally V-shaped screen bottom extending crosswise over the moving web, and whipping members are rotated in the bottom space so as to whip the material adjacent the interior surface of the screen by a whipping movement causing the fibers or particles to be slung against the screen and the material to move in a flow lengthwise along the bottom surfaces, whereby when suction is applied to the outside of the screen bottom through the web the fibers or particles will get dispensed through the screen and deposited on the web. The combined whipping and slinging of the material contributes to a high capacity of the distribution.

  • Patent number: 4157832
Abstract: Disclosed is a simplified structure of a toy phonograph in which the output shaft of a motor is selectively put into engagement with the rim of a record disc to drive the latter. A tone arm is provided above the record disc, so that the record disc may be contacted by a stylus carried by the tone arm, when moved axially by the output shaft of the motor brought into driving engagement therewith. The motor is biased for pivotal movement into engagement with the record disc, by means of springs which are retained by terminals of the motor. The springs are made of a conductive and resilient material, for playing a role of lead wire for supplying the motor with power. The springs include a plus side and a minus side springs, one of which is adapted to be separated from the associated motor terminal in the course of the pivotal movement of the motor, to serve as a source switch.

  • Patent number: 4157100
Abstract: A thread protector particularly adapted for protecting external pipe threads. The protector is comprised of a generally frusto-conical open ended metal outer shell which embraces and is affixed to a similarly formed plastic inner sleeve. Both the shell and sleeve include radially inward directed flanges at the protector inner end merging into lips which extend generally toward the protector outer end. The inner sleeve directly confronts the outer shell at the flange and lip areas but is spaced from the shell at the protector side wall areas by a plurality of spacing ribs. This spaced apart relationship between the shell and sleeve cushions blows which may be received against the protector after installation on a threaded member. The inner side wall surface of the sleeve is threaded from adjacent the outer end toward the inner end to facilitate convenient threaded mounting of the protector.

  • Patent number: 4157060
Abstract: An apparatus for cooking eggs is described in which the control of cooking is based upon indirect measurement of viscosity of the contents of one of the eggs being cooked. Viscosity is measured by oscillating the egg in rotation at a frequency determined by the spring constant of the system and at a constant torque while measuring the amplitude of oscillation. When, due to cooking, the amplitude of oscillation, which is a function of the viscosity of the egg contents, increases to a preset threshold, cooking is automatically terminated.

  • Patent number: 4155172
Abstract: The arrow straightness gauge of this invention has an elongated body of a preselected length. A circular cross-sectional passageway traverses the entire length of the elongated body and provides openings at both ends of the elongated body. The aforementioned arrow shaft has a preselected diameter and a preselected length. The circular cross-sectional passageway is provided with an internal diameter greater than the arrow shaft diameter, such that when the arrow shaft is inserted axial through the circular cross-sectional passage there is established a diametral clearance between the arrow shaft to be tested and the internal diameter of the circular cross-sectional passageway. The circular cross-sectional passageway has a diameter equal to the arrow shaft diameter to be tested plus a measurement in the range of between 0.003 and 0.023 times the arrow shaft diameter to be tested. The elongated body of the arrow shaft straightness gauge has a length no less than 0.
