  • Patent number: 5594652
Abstract: An object produces from a computer data base by representing the object in the data base as a solid voxels surrounded by support voxels within a volume. The data base representation of the object as the solid voxels is converted to a data base representation of the object as a shell of solid voxels surrounding filler support voxels, and the object from said converted data base representation is constructed in a layerwise fashion. A first material is dispensed in liquid form at selected locations of a target surface, and the selected locations correspond to the shell locations of a cross-section of an object. The first material solidifies after being dispensed; a second material is applied at locations of said target surface other than the shell locations at which the first material is dispensed, to form another target surface. The dispensing and applying is repeated to form an object comprising a shell of the first material surrounding said second material, and surrounded by the second material.

  • Patent number: 5592498
Abstract: EDC/CRC checker (70) performs an EDC/CRC check as a block of data is being corrected during a correction pass, thereby obviating buffer access for EDC/CRC purposes subsequent to block correction. During the correction pass, an EDC/CRC sum is accumulated which, upon completion of the pass of the block, is zero if EDC/CRC bytes in the block confirm that the block has been corrected. During the single correction pass of the block, bytes of an uncorrected, most-recent codeword are added to the accumulated sum. Bytes of a previous codeword which have a byte synchronization relationship with the byte of the most-recent codeword are corrected (if necessary), and (when correction occurs) error pattern factors including error patterns used to correct the bytes of the previous codeword are also added to the accumulated sum.

  • Patent number: 5590036
Abstract: When a piece of failure occurs, the associated-portion state data items of a relevant equipment and the relevant recovery sequence operated by an operator are recorded as a set of data. At this time, the associated-portion state data items which fall within a plurality of sets of data and which correspond to the same recovery sequence are grouped as the same recovery sequence group. Simultaneously, the common elements to the associated-portion state data items which fall within each recovery sequence group are extracted and recorded as the elements paired with the corresponding recovery sequence. Thereby, when a new piece of failure occurs, relevant associated-portion state data items are compared with the common elements. Then, regarding the associated-portion state data item which coincides with the common element, the corresponding recovery sequence is outputted to teach it to the operator as an available recovery sequence.

  • Patent number: 5590064
Abstract: Encoded video signals comprise sets of transform coefficients (e.g., DCT coefficients) corresponding to different regions of a video frame. An inverse transform is applied to sets of transform coefficients to generate decoded regions of a decoded video frame. The discontinuities for boundaries between adjacent regions are used to adjust one or more of the transform coefficients. The adjusted sets of transform coefficients are then used to generate filtered regions of a filtered video frame corresponding to the decoded video frame. In a preferred embodiment, the transform coefficients are DCT coefficients and the DC and first two AC DCT coefficients are sequentially adjusted to correct for quantization errors in the encoding process.

  • Patent number: 5587898
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for fuzzy control in contrast to standard methods and arrangements, no sharp quantity is processed as an input quantity of the fuzzy controller; instead, an input quantity is supplied that is affected with a probability density distribution. Thus it is not a sharp value but the probability density distribution of an input value whose membership degree is determined in the inference procedure of the fuzzy controller. This procedure offers advantages, particularly given asymmetrical distribution densities. First, one thus obtains a better response behavior of the controller and, second, the disadvantages that would occur given a pre-filtering of the signal, such as information losses, are avoided.

  • Patent number: 5587896
Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically adjusting the control parameters of a self-tuning controller used to regulate a process having a measured process variable signal. Using the measured process variable signal, an error signal representing a closed-loop response of the process to an upset condition is generated. Local extrema of the error signal is measured and three successive amplitude values are selected to produce measured decay and overshoot characteristics of the error signal. The three successive amplitude values are selected such that the measured decay characteristic is greater than the overshoot characteristic. Based on the measured decay and overshoot characteristics at least one of the control parameters of the controller is automatically adjusted to improve the difference between one of the measured characteristics and a target characteristic.

  • Patent number: 5587940
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing decimal division using a computer that does not have the capability to perform single instruction decimal multiplication or division. A divisor is normalized such that the value of the first digit of the divisor is not less than 5. Trial quotient digits within a trial quotient table are predetermined. A multiples table comprises multiples of the normalized divisor. The most significant digits of the normalized divisor and the most significant digits of each partial dividend are used to locate trial quotient digits within the trial quotient digit table. The trial quotient digits are used to locate multiples within the multiples table. A single subtraction (or addition) operation from a partial dividend can be used to determine whether the trial quotient digit is the actual quotient digit.

  • Patent number: 5586071
Abstract: A Wallace-type binary tree multiplier in which the partial products of a multiplicand and a multiplier are produced and then successively reduced using a plurality of adder levels comprised of full and half adders. This reduction continues until a final set of inputs is produced wherein no more than two inputs remain to be added in any column. This final set is then added using a serial adder and a carry lookahead adder to produce the desired product. The additions at each level are performed in accordance with prescribed rules to provide for fastest overall operating speed and minimum required chip area. In addition, the lengths of the serial adder and carry lookahead adder are chosen to further enhance speed while reducing required chip area. A still further enhancement in multiplier operating speed is achieved by providing connections to adders so as to take advantage of the different times of arrival of the inputs to each level along with different adder input-to-output delays.
