  • Patent number: 7363022
Abstract: A system for enforcing configuration requirements for hardware and software on mobile units operating on Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). The system allows the configuration policy to change dynamically with the access point or sub-network association. Whenever a mobile unit connects to a new sub-network or access point, the system invokes and then verifies the proper configuration profile for that sub-network or access point. Thus the system ensures the configuration of the mobile unit meets the requirements for the sub-network being used.

  • Patent number: 7363004
Abstract: A method is discussed for generating feedback information for controlling transmission from a transmitting end using a set of feedback symbols. The feedback information comprises a set of feedback words. At least one feedback symbol is determined based on at least one signal received from the transmitting end. A feedback word to be transmitted to the transmitting end is determined, the feedback word relating to the determined feedback symbol, by a mapping between said set of feedback symbols and said set of feedback words. This mapping takes into account the effect of at least one possible transmission error in transmitting the feedback word to the transmitting end. Furthermore, the mapping is different from a mapping relating to Gray encoding.

  • Patent number: 7359731
Abstract: An inter-working network includes a plurality of interfaces for facilitating communications with a plurality of dispatch networks, a proxy, a signaling bridge, a signaling controller and a signaling gateway. The interfaces include a border gateway that manages communications between the inter-working architecture and each dispatch network. The proxy analyzes incoming session requests to determine whether translation is required between originating and terminating dispatch networks. The signaling bridge is adapted to translate session and signaling messages between dispatch networks having incompatible technologies. The signaling controller is interfaced with the signaling bridge and is adapted to manage dispatch sessions between an originating dispatch network and at least one target dispatch network. The signaling gateway is interfaced with the signaling controller and allocates media resources, such as transcoders, to dispatch sessions in order to convert real-time media between dispatch networks.

  • Patent number: 7356346
Abstract: A method of scheduling data communication over an uplink. The method enables two or more users seeking to transmit data over the uplink to be scheduled in response to their path loss. The user having the most attractive determined path loss among the two or more users seeking to transmit data over the uplink us scheduled first. Thereafter, the next user having the next most attractive path loss among the remaining users may be subsequently scheduled if the total noise rise leftover is greater than zero. This process repeats so long as or until the total noise rise leftover is about zero.

  • Patent number: 7280806
Abstract: At the transmitter side, carrier waves are modulated according to an input signal for producing relevant signal points in a signal space diagram. The input signal is divided into, two, first and second, data streams. The signal points are divided into signal point groups to which data of the first data stream are assigned. Also, data of the second data stream are assigned to the signal points of each signal point group. A difference in the transmission error rate between first and second data streams is developed by shifting the signal points to other positions in the space diagram expressed at least in the polar coordinate system. At the receiver side, the first and/or second data streams can be reconstructed from a received signal. In TV broadcast service, a TV signal is divided by a transmitter into, low and high, frequency band components which are designated as a first and a second data streams respectively.

  • Patent number: 7269452
Abstract: A wireless communication system based on a directional speaker is disclosed. The system can include an interface unit and a base unit. The audio signals from the speaker can be generated by transforming ultrasonic signals in air. This allows the production of directional audio signals even when the aperture of the speaker has dimensions in the order of a few centimeters. The audio signals from the speaker can be heard hands-free. Further, privacy protection is enhanced. In one embodiment, the interface unit can be attached or integrated to a piece of clothing at the shoulder of the user, with the audio signals from the speaker directed towards one of the user's ears. The wireless communication system can be applied to a number of different areas, including a communication device, such as a cell phone; a hearing aid; an entertainment system; and a computation system, such as a personal digital assistant or a computer.

  • Patent number: 7269438
Abstract: When performing base station selection type transmission power control, transmission of the dedicated physical control channel signal by non-transmitting base stations is halted while minimizing the impact on uplink transmission power control. This decreases downlink interference and increases downlink channel capacity. At a base station, reception quality measuring unit 506 compares the measured uplink reception quality with a target quality, forms a TPC signal on the basis of the results of this comparison, and communicates the contents of this TPC signal to transmission power controller 507. When the base station in question is a non-transmitting base station, transmission power controller 507 transmits the dedicated physical control channel signal only if the contents of the communicated TPC signal instruct a decrease, and otherwise halts transmission of the dedicated physical control channel signal.
