Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for reducing the peak to average ratio of signals, so that the signals can be amplified more efficiently. An error signal that corresponds to crests of the input signal is generated, and subtracted from the input signal. When a crest is so long that it corresponds to more than one sample, only the maximum sample contained in the crest is used to form the error signal. Optionally, multiple stages of decresting may be implemented sequentially.
Abstract: A wireless communication system and method for controlling transmission power to maintain a received signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) as close as possible to a target SIR. A received quality is maintained as close as possible to a target quality based on block error rate (BLER). When a target BLER is converted to an initial target SIR, an error may occur due to a channel condition mismatch, since the target SIR required for the target BLER varies with channel conditions. An outer loop power control process is used to set a target SIR for each coded composite transport channel (CCTrCH) based on the required target BLER. The process adjusts a SIR step size parameter to maximize the convergence speed of the process.

Abstract: A method of allocating communication resources among nodes in a network is provided. Communication among the nodes uses a time division multiple access protocol that includes a plurality of time slots. After identifying and synchronizing with a first communication node, a search algorithm is executed. The search algorithm allocates one or more time slot of the plurality of time slots to communicate control information with the identified first communication node and allocates the remaining time slots of the plurality of time slots to identification of a second communication node. Upon identification of and synchronization with the second communication node, a merged network is formed. Execution of the search algorithm continues until a desired confidence level is achieved. The confidence level estimates the likelihood that another communication node capable of communication with the network has not been identified.
Abstract: Systems, methodologies, and other embodiments associated with reconfiguring a wireless computer communication device by processing an output signal provided by the device are described. One exemplary system embodiment includes an attenuation circuit configured to attenuate a computer communication signal generated by the wireless computer communication device to a desired level. The example system may also include an attenuation level logic configured to determine the desired attenuation level. In one example, the desired attenuation level may be determined based on the proximity of wireless devices.
Abstract: A system and method for assisting an integrated GPS/wireless terminal unit in acquiring one or more GPS satellite signals from the GPS satellite constellation. The invention includes a method for narrowing the PN-code phase search. That is, by accounting for the variables in geographic location and time delay relative to GPS time, the systems and methods of the present invention generate a narrow code-phase search range that enables the terminal unit to more quickly acquire and track the necessary GPS satellites, and thereby more quickly provide accurate position information to a requesting entity.

Abstract: A headset for a mobile communication terminal is disclosed. The headset comprises a main body and a RF module printed circuit board (PCB) housed within it. A microphone is also housed within the main body and connected to the RF module PCB. A guide piece housing an antenna, which is connected to the RF module PCB, is connected to the main body on one end and has an opening on the second end. Finally, a speaker is connected to the main body opposite the guide piece.
Abstract: A system and method automatically plays programming selections corresponding to the user's preferences as specified in a playlist. The user can create a playlist and transfer the playlist to a receiver. The receiver scans the content in all of the channels that are being broadcast to the receiver to determine if any of the programming matches the selections on the playlist. If there is a match, the receiver automatically tunes the receiver to the matching program.
Abstract: In a mobile network at least one direct communication channel between mobile stations is provided. The direct communication channel is used by a mobile station (MS 1) for broadcasting periodical emergency data messages, within near vicinity and to other mobile devices, which comprise means for estimating distance and/or direction to the this mobile station. In particular, for evaluating signal strength and/or other properties of the emergency signal where different emergency signals are provided differing in amplitude, frequency and/or pattern and where these emergency signals can be received by other mobile stations (MS2) or by network antennas (TRX1) or by special localization equipments (MSTRACK, 5,6,7) in such a way that the signal is used for localizing the first mobile station (MS1) to a high precision.
Abstract: The radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) electrostatic discharge (ESD) circuit includes an integrated circuit pin and a radio frequency (RF) ESD circuit. The integrated circuit pin provides coupling to an antenna. The RF ESD circuit is operably coupled to the integrated circuit pin, wherein the RF ESD circuit provides ESD protection at the integrated circuit pin, provides coupling of inbound RF signals from the antenna to low noise amplifier, and provides coupling of outbound RF signals from a power amplifier to the antenna.
Abstract: A portable telecommunication apparatus has a user interface, a programmable controller, a memory coupled to the controller, and an information access program, such as a WAP browser, which is stored in the memory and is executable by the controller. The information access program provides access for a user to a global information network, such as Internet, through the user interface and a first wireless communication link. The apparatus also has an external device interface for connecting an external device to the portable telecommunication apparatus over a second communication link. The information access program allows the user to control the external device through the user interface, the external device interface and the second communication link.

Abstract: A method and system for brokering frequencies for use in peer-to-peer communication sessions. A frequency broker receives session-participation messages from multiple parties wishing to communicate wirelessly with each other. The broker selects a frequency for the parties to use and then instructs the parties to communicate with each other on the selected frequency. And the parties then engage in peer-to-peer communication with each other over the selected frequency.
Abstract: In a mobile communicating system, a mobile terminal has a position information detecting unit detecting position information, a position information transmitting unit transmitting position information to an information center, an up-load data transmitting unit transmitting up-load data to the information center and an information/service utilizing unit utilizing information/service from the information center.
Abstract: A communication system includes a message server which receives messages addressed to target communication devices coupled to the message server by a communication link. The message server includes a log file which tracks the time that messages intended for various addressed communication devices are received by the message server. The message server includes a log file activity detector which periodically checks the log file to determine if a message addressed to a particular communication device has been received with a predetermined past time period. If a message has been so received and logged, the mail server notifies the target communication device that the message has been delivered to the communication device's mailbox on the message server. The user of the communication device can then opt to retrieve the message.
