  • Patent number: 7174191
Abstract: Occurrences of at least one of a plurality of telephone number-related speech patterns are identified in an audio stream using speech analysis techniques. At least one number pattern corresponding to the occurrences are thereafter identified and stored for later presentation to a user of a mobile device. The occurrences and corresponding number pattern(s) may be filtered to reduce the likelihood of false detections. Furthermore, the detected number pattern(s) may be augmented to ensure completeness. Users may edit and persistently store the resulting number pattern(s). In one embodiment, a portion of the audio stream may be stored and subsequently subjected to the speech analysis process. The stored portion of the audio stream may be reproduced at substantially the same time that at least one number pattern detected therein is provided to the user. In this manner, telephone numbers in audio streams may be captured safely and conveniently.

  • Patent number: 7167678
Abstract: A persistent peer-to-peer network is implemented over a network with master-slave topology. Data being sent from master to slave or from slave to master are sent in one transmission, but data sent from one slave to another is received by the master and retransmitted to the slave. A session table is kept at each device includes an ordered list of devices, where the first device is the master device. When a master device drops out of the network the slave devices promote the next device in the ordered list of devices to master. A master device may also receive a request from a slave device to become master, and update its session table and send the updated session table to all devices. The slave device requesting master status is then treated as master by all devices in the network.

  • Patent number: 7158804
Abstract: Mobiles are sorted by using a first metric and one or more of the sorted mobiles are selected. A second metric is determined using the selected sorted mobiles, and mobiles are selected to transmit during a time period based on the second metric. Multiple embodiments are disclosed using these steps and exact or approximate solutions as to which mobiles should transmit may be determined. By way of example, the first metric may be a weighted marginal rate and the second metric may be an objective function. An uplink proportional fair technique is presented in which, for example, either a single “strong” mobile or a group of “weak” mobiles may be selected to transmit during a single time period. In addition, techniques are presented for determining uplink scheduling when there is partial orthogonality in Walsh codes, modeled by an orthogonality factor, assigned to mobiles.

  • Patent number: 7155160
Abstract: Connected to a satellite earth station for transmitting a broadcast signal to a communication satellite, a data (distribution) center publishes contents of stored information on a home page (HP) of the Internet to submit retrieval of users. When each user determines date to be gotten by retrieving on HP, the user transmits a request signal to the date center via a ground Internet or the communication satellite. Responsive to the request signal, the date center returns a reservation signal including a group address and a distribution scheduled time instant to a request source via the communication satellite. A user's terminal receives date with the group address at a reserved time instant, deciphers the date using a key given from the date center separately, and stores deciphered date in a memory thereof.

  • Patent number: 7155232
Abstract: A technique is disclosed that enables both an IEEE 802.11 transceiver and a Bluetooth transceiver to be employed in a single wireless telecommunication station (e.g., a device supporting a wireless telephone, personal digital assistant, etc.) without interfering on each other. In particular, the illustrative embodiment enables standard “off-the-shelf” IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth transceivers to work in a coordinated fashion in a single telecommunications terminal. In the illustrative embodiment, a Bluetooth transceiver gains access to a shared-communications channel from an IEEE 802.11 transceiver by requesting access, even if the access is not immediate. The technique disclosed is also applicable to communications protocols other than IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth.

  • Patent number: 7155262
Abstract: A system and method is provided that provides a mobile communication device with the ability to quickly reestablish a communication session with another after the communication device is awaken from a sleep or idle mode. The mobile communication device is provided with a first power system for powering a central operating system and a second power system for powering a communication system. A mobile communication device establishes a communication session with another communication device by establishing a connection and establishing a communication session. During an idle period, the communication session in a stack will be stored in memory. The first power system and the central operating system will then enter a low power or sleep mode, while second power system and the communication system can maintain a communication connection with the other device. Upon reestablishing communications, the mobile communication device will wake up the first power supply and the central operating system.

  • Patent number: 7146157
Abstract: Devices, systems and processes for accessing and management of voice and other messages. Such devices, systems and processes employ an interface which allows the user to access and manage messages on his or her user device and, furthermore, automatically to access and manage messages on remote devices via radio frequency link. These interfaces may present users with intuitive and direct options for accessing and managing voice mail, such as, for instance, to push a designated forward button when the user desires to forward a voice mail. Such common interfaces promote more efficient and effective use and management of messaging resources because they among other things eliminate the requirement to be conversant in different interfaces, rules and protocols for the different platforms on which messages may be accessed and managed.

  • Patent number: 7142842
Abstract: A method, system, and device for providing access to network-based services by analyzing a symbol associated with a network service. A representation of a symbol associated with a network service is captured. For example, a graphic symbol associated with a network-connected business may be captured using a mobile telephone equipped with a camera. The symbol may depict a business logo or any other symbol associated with the network service. The representation of the symbol is analyzed by comparing the symbol to a library of ideal symbols. Each ideal symbol is associated with a network address of the network service. If the representation of the symbol matches an ideal symbol, the network address associated with the ideal symbol is used to access the network-based service.

  • Patent number: 7136663
Abstract: During a communication, a channel is shared by several transmitting/receiving stations comprising a single master station and one or more slave stations. A station becomes a master station by transmitting traffic information on the channel. After the master station has stopped transmitting traffic information without the communication being concluded, it continues to transmit signaling information authorizing each slave station in turn to transmit traffic information on the channel. This transmission of signaling information continues for as long as the communication lasts, until one of the slave stations becomes the master station in turn by beginning to transmit traffic information on the channel or until the same station begins to transmit traffic information again, hereby remaining the master station.

  • Patent number: 7133689
Abstract: A wireless communication system and method for controlling transmission power to maintain a received signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) as close as possible to a target SIR. A received quality is maintained as close as possible to a target quality based on block error rate (BLER). When a target BLER is converted to an initial target SIR, an error may occur due to a channel condition mismatch, since the target SIR required for the target BLER varies with channel conditions. An outer loop power control process is used to set a target SIR for each coded composite transport channel (CCTrCH) based on the required target BLER. The process adjusts a SIR step size parameter to maximize the convergence speed of the process.
