  • Patent number: 7769389
Abstract: An access point for a wireless network, such as a base transceiver station, might use a variety of different methods to allocate its resources among mobile stations. For example, the access point might vary the way it allocates available bandwidth among the mobile stations, thereby also altering the data rates between the access point and the mobile stations. Various criteria, such as the number of the number of mobile stations actively communicating with the access point, might be used to trigger the access point to change how it allocates bandwidth among the active mobile stations.

  • Patent number: 7509133
Abstract: Location-blocking and identity-blocking services that can be commercially offered by a service promoter, e.g., a cellular service provider or a web advertiser. In the identity-blocking service, the service promoter may disclose the current physical location of a mobile subscriber (i.e., a cellular phone operator) to a third party (e.g., a web advertiser) subscribing to the identity-blocking service. However, the service promoter may not send any identity information for the mobile subscriber to the third party. On the other hand, in the location-blocking service, the service promoter may disclose the mobile subscriber's identity information to the third party, but not the current physical location of the mobile subscriber. Blocking of the mobile subscriber's identity or location information may be desirable for privacy reasons, to comply with a government regulation, or to implement a telecommunication service option selected by the mobile subscriber.

  • Patent number: 7505783
Abstract: A method, apparatus and a computer readable record media storing instructions for executing the same method for interfacing among a hybrid type synchronous or asynchronous terminal to a core network in a next generation mobile telecommunications system. The hybrid type synchronous or asynchronous radio network determines the operating type of the core network when the core network has a connection thereto, and sends the determined core network operating type information and information related to the core network to the hybrid type synchronous or asynchronous terminal, thereby allowing the synchronous or asynchronous terminal to smoothly perform a data interfacing operation with the core network.

  • Patent number: 7392060
Abstract: A mobile exchange infrastructure provides for dynamic mediation between services and applications, particularly in a mobile environment. Such services include Web services that are designed to provide functionality to an application that is not native to that application. The mobile exchange infrastructure ensures that the services and applications may interact with one another, even when they have been constructed in different development environments, have multiple associated messaging protocols, or are running in different application frameworks. As a result, mobile users may experience increased efficiency and use of available applications and services.

  • Patent number: 7372823
Abstract: Rather than transmitting a large full Broadcast-Multicast Services (BCMC) Parameters Message (BSPM) containing a full set of BSPM parameters pertaining to all active BCMC flows within a sector on an infrequent basis, smaller-sized differential or partial BSPMs are instead transmitted. Differential BSPMs contain updated information for existing flows or information for new flows, and because of their smaller size, can be transmitted more frequently than full BSPMs. A mobile terminal receiving a differential BSPM updates the flows with the information contained within the differential BSPM or adds the information contained within the differential BSPM for a new flow. Partial BSPMs divide the flow information contained in a large full BSPM over a plurality of smaller-sized partial BSPMs, which are separately and sequentially transmitted at different times. A mobile terminal receiving these partial BSPMs then reconstructs the full BSPM from a collection of received partial BSPMs.

  • Patent number: 7369869
Abstract: A method and system for scanning a TDMA channel by a subscriber unit in a wireless communications landscape 100 is disclosed. The subscriber unit locks onto a channel that is preprogrammed in the subscriber unit. A base radio transmits a control message to the subscriber unit. The control message informs the subscriber unit of activity present on the channel. The subscriber unit receives and decodes the control message to determine whether there is activity on the channel. If there is, the subscriber unit determines whether the activity is of interest. If it is, then the subscriber unit remains on the channel to receive the activity present on the channel.

  • Patent number: 7356003
Abstract: When deterioration in throughput is detected, it is determined whether a factor of the deterioration is deterioration in channel quality or concentration of traffic. If the factor of the deterioration in the throughput is the concentration of the traffic, it is determined whether or not a base station to become a switching candidate for a serving sector is present around, and if it is present, switching of the serving sector is requested to a serving base station. In contrast, if the factor of the deterioration in the throughput is the deterioration in the channel quality, it is determined whether or not a base station to become an adding candidate for the serving sector is present around, and if it is present, adding of the serving sector is requested to the serving base station.

  • Patent number: 7340251
Abstract: A method and system of background scanning of an evaluated system by a mobile station without missing paging frames on a registered system. The registered system is defined as the system in which the mobile station has registered and will receive pages. The evaluated system is the system from which the mobile station must retrieve parameters (the possibly higher priority system). The various disclosed embodiments use the periodicity of the paging information to set a guard timer that will force the system back to the registered system before the paging information in the next time slot is missed. After receiving the paging information, the mobile station can continue its search and evaluation of base systems. In other words, the guard timer breaks the background scan into smaller segments that are performed between retrievals of paging information.

  • Patent number: 7324808
Abstract: A method for delivering certain types of user information over a communication system is provided. Users identify certain user signals that can be transmitted in non-real time, and transmit such signals over signaling channels of the communication system. The system receives and stores these non-real time signals and transmits them over available traffic channels to their destinations at some later time. The user or the communication system defines when such non real time signals are to be transmitted over the traffic channels to their destinations. In this manner, the probability of real time signals and user identified non real time signals competing for traffic channels or other resources of the system is greatly reduced thus allowing the communication system to maintain or even increase its capacity.
