  • Patent number: 7260388
Abstract: A software product for qualifying communication devices for a broadband wireless service is disclosed. The software product first identifies requirements of the broadband wireless service. Examples of the requirements include hardware and software requirements for a communication device to receive the broadband wireless service. The software product then executes an application to determine configuration information for a communication device. Configuration information, for example, is information on the CPU, the operating system, the amount of RAM, available hard disk space, an Ethernet connection, and a CD ROM drive of the communication device. The software product then compares the configuration information to the requirements of the broadband wireless service to determine if the communication device is configured to receive the broadband wireless service. Advantageously, the software product automatically determines if a communication device can receive a broadband wireless service.

  • Patent number: 7260403
Abstract: A system and method for carrying out a dynamic-routing service is provided. The system includes a service control point (“SCP”) that is operable to provide routing instructions for the plurality of subscriber terminals. And each of the plurality of subscriber terminals has a subscriber address and an associated call history. In carrying out a dynamic-routing service, the SCP receives a request for routing instructions for terminating a voice call to a call-subscriber address of the plurality of subscriber addresses. Responsively, the SCP selects from the plurality of subscriber addresses a delivery address for terminating the voice call to based on the call histories associated with the plurality of subscriber addresses. After selecting the delivery address, the SCP develops routing instructions for terminating the voice call to the delivery address, and then provides the routing instructions for terminating the voice call to the delivery address.

  • Patent number: 7260383
Abstract: A method and system are provided for serving multimedia messages to a cellular wireless communications device through an alternative route. According to an embodiment, the wireless device is locally coupled with a computer such as a PC. When a message notification arrives at the wireless device through a cellular air interface, the wireless device passes an indication of the notification to the local computer. The local computer then requests the message from a message server and the message delivered through a high-bandwidth wired pathway. Finally, the message is rendered for output at a terminal.

  • Patent number: 7254389
Abstract: A simulation system includes a cache structure that stores determined characteristics related to the propagation of an event. If a similar event occurs, and the factors affecting the determination of these characteristics have not changed, the characteristics associated with the new event are retrieved from the cache, rather than being re-determined from the underlying factors. In the example of mobile transceivers, if multiple transceivers share a common set of underlying factors, the determined characteristics of one transceiver can be shared among all of the other transceivers. If the underlying factors are dependent upon geographic area, mobile transceivers that enter a geographic area having associated cached characteristics can use the cached characteristics of other transceivers that are, or had been, in the area.

  • Patent number: 7251499
Abstract: In an RF front-end having a plurality of signal paths connectable to an internal antenna or an external antenna, an antenna switch part is used to select either the internal or the external antenna. In the antenna switch part, two series switches are used to operatively connect to the same connection point in each signal path. These two series switches are separately connected to two different antennas for selecting one of the antennas in order to route the signals in that signal path. For providing further isolation between signal paths, each signal path can be connected to a shunt switch near the connection point. Only the shunt switch connected to the selected signal path is operated in an open position, all the other shunt switches are operated in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 7245898
Abstract: A communications system for a vehicle having a foot pedal useable to control communications at a user interface in the vehicle. By controlling the user interface at least in part through activation of the foot pedal, communications in the vehicle are made more convenient and less dangerous as the user need not use his hands to operate the communications user interface. The foot pedal may perform a dedicated communications control function, or may be programmable to perform a communications control function of a user's choosing. Several foot pedals may be used, either in conjunction with a single seat, or each associated with a particular seat in the vehicle. Foot pedal communication settings may also be stored within the communications user interface for easy retrieval, and may be retrievable through entry of a user ID, such as may come from a key fob.

  • Patent number: 7236791
Abstract: The present invention relates to wireless telephone networks, and more particularly to the allocation of radio channels to calls in CDMA-based systems when their Radio Access Networks (RAN) are congested. A Base Station (BS) receives a call origination from a mobile device. The BS communicates information about the call and about its radio availability to a Mobile Switching Center (MSC). The MSC determines the priority of the call and how the call should be treated by the BS based on the supplied information. The MSC communicates the treatment information and the priority information back to the BS. When the RAN is congested, high-priority calls are queued. These high-priority calls are served based on allocation specification in which radio channels may be assigned to low-priority calls, which are not queued, while there are still calls in the queue.

  • Patent number: 7231212
Abstract: Methods to create a cellular-like communication system, such as a Wireless Private Branch Exchange (WPBX), which includes mobile devices such as standard cordless phones (handsets), particularly, mobile devices utilizing the Bluetooth short-range wireless communication protocol. The methods provide seamless and reliable handoff of sessions between Base Stations while the mobile device is moving between picocells, by implementing a high-level of synchronization between the Base Stations and the Switch. Base Stations of picocells having small coverage areas communicate with the handsets. The communication protocol is divided into a low-level protocol performed by the Base Stations and a high-level protocol performed by the Switch connected to all the Base Stations. The methods support mobile computing or telephony devices and communication protocols, which are not specified to handle handoffs of sessions while moving between Base Stations coverage areas in a data, voice or telephony wireless network.

  • Patent number: 7228107
Abstract: A paging indicator deciding method of a mobile communication terminal in which a threshold value for deciding a paging indicator is variably set according to a SNR of a pilot channel. If the SNR of the pilot channel is in a range that a false alarm rate (FAR) has a large value, the mobile terminal determines a threshold value so that it can have the greatest value in a range that a miss probability (MP) does not exceed the standard value. If the SNR of the pilot channel is not in the range that the SNR has the large value, the mobile terminal determines a threshold value to obtain the smallest MP in a range that the FAR is not further increased.
