  • Patent number: 7224978
Abstract: Location-blocking and identity-blocking services that can be commercially offered by a service promoter, e.g., a cellular service provider or a web advertiser. In the identity-blocking service, the service promoter may disclose the current physical location of a mobile subscriber (i.e., a cellular phone operator) to a third party (e.g., a web advertiser) subscribing to the identity-blocking service. However, the service promoter may not send any identity information for the mobile subscriber to the third party. On the other hand, in the location-blocking service, the service promoter may disclose the mobile subscriber's identity information to the third party, but not the current physical location of the mobile subscriber. Blocking of the mobile subscriber's identity or location information may be desirable for privacy reasons, to comply with a government regulation, or to implement a telecommunication service option selected by the mobile subscriber.

  • Patent number: 7218952
Abstract: A method, system and apparatus in a wireless communications system selectively utilizes the Internet for the transmission of information. In a first embodiment, a subscriber can activate an Internet call forwarding (ICF) supplementary service (SS). From the subscriber's Mobile Station, an ICF message is transmitted to and stored in the subscriber's Home Location Register (HLR). The ICF message may optionally designate an Internet protocol (IP) address destination and may optionally activate other features pursuant to the data type received. For example, the ICF message may request that only fax/data calls or only calls that would otherwise incur a long distance charge be forwarded over/through the Internet. In operation, an incoming call to a Gateway Mobile Services Switching Center (GMSC) causes the GMSC to interrogate the called party's HLR. The information in the incoming call is then forwarded either over/through the Internet or over the PSTN based on the features activated by the ICF message.

  • Patent number: 7215968
Abstract: A positional information tracking and forwarding method is disclosed for conducting an optimal forward destination control method to estimate the situations of a user. A position database stores a plurality of forward destinations for a call to the user that correspond to positional information and time period information (business hours or the like) of the forward destinations. This is used as a search table. For forwarding a call to the user, the current position of the user is detected from the position of a mobile telephone carried by the user, and a forward destination list is created based on the detected current position of the user, the current time, and the search table. The forward destination list enumerates forward destinations that are arranged in an order in which the user is more likely to be present at the forward destinations. The forward destinations are selected one after another in accordance with the forward destination list to forward the call to the user.

  • Patent number: 7215974
Abstract: A system and a method of controlling transmitter power in a wireless communication system in which user data is processed as a multirate signal having a rate N(t) and in which the user data signal having rate N(t) is converted into a transmission data signal having a faster rate M(t) for transmission. The transmission power is adjusted on a relatively slow basis based on quality of data received by a receiver of the transmitted data. The transmitter power is determined as a function of N(t)/M(t) such that a change in the data rate in the multiple channels or the rate of the transmission data signal is compensated in advance of a quality of data based adjustment associated with such data rate change. Preferably, the user data signal having rate N(t) is converted into the transmission data signal having the faster rate M(t) by repeating selected data bits whereby the energy per bit to noise spectrum density ratio is increased in the transmission data signal.

  • Patent number: 7212809
Abstract: An initial channel access message such as a Random Access Channel (RACH) preamble is used to mean that not only that a channel access has been requested by a mobile station (500) but also that a particular type of service has been requested. By associating a type of service (e.g., Dispatch, web browsing, etc.) with the particular signature that is used to form the RACH preamble it speeds up the service negotiation process. Both the communication system (600) and the MS (500) know what service is associated with which signature, so as soon as a RACH preamble is received by the system, it can determine if it has the resources available to accommodate the request.
