Various aspects may include storing a first firmware description table to a first sector of a flash memory, in which the first firmware description table may define a first instance of a firmware including describing a first plurality of firmware images, storing the first plurality of firmware images to a first plurality of consecutive sectors, storing a second firmware description table to a second sector, in which the second firmware description table may define a second instance of the firmware including describing a second plurality of firmware images having a third plurality of firmware images, storing the third plurality of firmware images to a second plurality of consecutive sectors, and booting the computing device using the second firmware description table.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the present technology may comprise a method and apparatus for power management of a memory cell. The memory cell may be configured to operate at various voltage levels to mitigate power dissipation. The memory cell may receive a first voltage level during an active state and receive a second voltage level during an idle state. The active and idle states may be known based on predetermined system parameters. The second voltage level may be selected according to the particular characteristics of the memory cell in order to retain input data.

Abstract: An information handling system operating a chassis temperature control system may comprise an integrated circuit operatively connected to a proximity sensing strip and a processor, a temperature sensor measuring an exterior temperature of a portion of a chassis of the information handling system adjacent to the proximity sensing strip, and an orientation sensor measuring an orientation of one portion of the chassis to another portion of the chassis to indicate a laptop physical configuration of the information handling system. The integrated circuit may measure a capacitance across the proximity sensing strip such that a high capacitance measurement results in a low skin temperature limit setting, and the processor may execute code instructions of the chassis temperature control system to incrementally decrease a processor power draw limit level based on the exterior temperature measurement exceeding the low skin temperature limit setting.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an active cable assembly may include a cable end, a data receiver, a controller characteristic circuit, and a controller. The data receiver, operable to receive a DC-balanced data signal, can be electrically coupled to a conductive input data line of the cable end. The controller characteristic circuit can be electrically coupled to the conductive input data line. The controller can be communicatively coupled to the data receiver. The controller may include a configurable communication port electrically coupled to the controller characteristic circuit, and memory for storing a boot loader. The controller can execute the boot loader to set the configurable communication port as an output for controller data signals and as an input for the controller data signals.
Abstract: Exposing a leap second to a plurality of applications includes identifying a system setting enabling leap second support and that a positive leap second should be added to the end of a chosen date. Based on the system setting enabling leap second support and based on the occurrence of the positive leap second, a first conversion component is exposed to a first application. The first conversion component presents, over a period of two seconds of actual time, a last second of the chosen date as if it is one second of system time. Based on the system setting enabling leap second support, based on the occurrence of the positive leap second, and based on a second application opting in to leap seconds, a second conversion component is exposed to the second application. The second conversion component presents an extra 61st second of system time at the end of a last minute of the chosen date.

Any additional power supplies detected by controllers may be blocked from providing power to the system while the first power supply is providing power.

Abstract: A target device operating on a first operating system can receive an incremental update for a second operating system and store in a first data set a snapshot of the second the second operating system based on the incremental update. The target device may then export an image of the second operating system to a second data set and boot into the second image. The target device may receive operating system updates, build operating system images in the background, and boot into the updated operating system when the process is complete. Storing snapshots of the incremental updates and previous operating system images allows for reversion to old operating systems.
